  • I have 3 different varieties of Kaki fruits in the food forest
Fuyu, Nikitiskaya and one I don't remember :) They are all thriving in my garden and have been fruiting every year since I planted them 8 years ago.
The blue beauty in front of the kaki tree is Caryopteris clan, Blåskæg in Danish.

Interesting! Does it require more than one tree for pollination?

Hi John - it depends on what vareities you are growing. The varieties I have are selfpollinating, but you can also find varieties that need both male and female trees to produce fruits. www.gardenguides.com/info_8535614_do-persimmons-need-pollinated.html

Hi Martina :) Yes, I agree they are often mixed or presented as the same spieces even at nurseries The white ones (and a lot of purple ones) are "real" asters, I also have some of the very late flowering chrysanthemums - and I love those too !!!

But how do they taste? And what do they look like on the inside? :)

Hi Else, They have their own taste, but something like soft dates but more fruity. In a month or so you can buy a commercial variety in the shops - sharonfruit, kaki or dadelblomme. The variety I grow is a little different and needs to be very soft and almost over-ripe before they are good to eat.
