Naaah the biggest appeal of that is the mystery, besides that colony failed within 5 years and even while it was active, they controlled next to no real power over the mountain so it wasn’t like reclaiming erebor which was empty after smaug died, khazad dum had almost as any goblins as mordor lmao besides do you REALLY wanna see oin die in in the first 5 minutes? Cuz the watcher killed him before he even set foot in moria
I think the one of the reasons We can all connect with Bilbo and Thorin so much is because of all the struggles they both go through solo and together, it's as human as can be in a world dominated by magic and strange traditions. At the end of the BOT5A's, We all feel beat, happy, sad sometimes but it's more then just a story as well.
He was a failure like his forefathers before him. No one was exempt to the greed for power, however others in spite of their mistakes, weaknesses and flaws rose above them, loved and sacrificed. He only sacrificed his own people, his friends and his kin. What a tragedy and such a sad ending to such an incredible character.
I often feel bad for Thorin Oakenshield and what he went through i wish i could wrap my arms around him and say "you overcame the h*ll you went through and became a better person let love heal you
