Show Synopsis: "Suits" delves into the fast-paced, high-stakes world of a top Manhattan corporate law firm where hotshot associate Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht, “Love & Other Drugs”) makes a risky move by hiring Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams, “Old School”) a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout, as his associate. As he becomes enmeshed in this unfamiliar world, Mike relies heavily on the firm’s best paralegal Rachel (Megan Markle, “Horrible Bosses”) and Harvey's no-nonsense assistant Donna (Sarah Rafferty, “Brothers & Sisters”) to help him serve justice. With a photographic memory and the street smarts of a hustler, Mike proves to be a legal prodigy despite the absence of bonafide legal credentials.

"You want a seat at the table, you gotta put some skin in the game" goes for everything in life
Gretchen : you're corporate secretary, what exactly did you expect?
And that's one of the reason why people love Gretchen despite her coming late into the series...she knows her own boundary and act accordingly
exactly, she became my 2nd fav character in suits right under jessica and above harvey
Gretchen keeps it real.
Bingo. Gretchen quickly became my favorite character.
I loved that line. She got no problem telling people like it is
So was Michael Eisner and then he became the CEO of Disney.
Laverne being Laverne.
I always find it fascinating how Harvey comes into the bathroom one way and leaves in the opposite direction. Makes me wonder if when he said hes got some things to take care of he meant going number 2
😂😂😂i also think same 😂
Hahahaha, he's got "things to take care of" then heads deeper into the bathroom. I didn't catch that. 👍
double door bathrooms are pretty common in office buildings...

Yeah, but that ain't funny.
Great observation
Louis' character development over the course of the series was one of the best things about it.
The actor is great
They only made him go in circles. There is no real development of the character.
LOL, people keep saying this and I don’t know why. Louis has no character development. Louis is the exact same vicious-apologetic-nice-back to vicious again” character he’s always been. Louis is a circular character used to create or increase drama/conflict. He never learns or changes, he just makes excuses and sometimes feels contrite before carrying on as always.
Donna started as secretary and than became every lawyers dream to become partner is crazy.
Yes, it was a nonsense storyline. From legal secretary to senior partner to COO without any experience managing people, managing budgets, analyzing costs, dealing with leases/property issues, etc. I was very let down by the show when it happened. I understand that with Jessica leaving, the writers needed a strong female leader in the firm. But this was not the way.
It needed for the story so that Harvey marrying her won't look like a cheap settlement.
Also, she lacked THE critical skill of a COO: decisionmaking. She displayed horrible decisionmaking when she destroyed the CM document, broke attorney/client privilege with Thomas Kessler, pushed for Louis to be MP when he wasn't ready, committed a felony to obtain the LIberty Rails doc, and turned a blind eye to Louis exposing Harvey's salary.
@@senorgato70 Mad Men inspired probably as mentioned
@@senorgato70 if you watched the show from start to finish you would also understand that Donna was never JUST a legal secretary. This is my problem with people in the United States, you all judge people's ability by the job that they have. Donna is a genius level intellect. She is able to analyze to the smallest minutiae. Donna could have pH.d in many different fields if that is what she wanted.
Gretchen is so amazing
Donna can be a COO and a partner without being a lawyer, it’s not difficult to grasp. First off law firms have people who work there that aren’t lawyers. Secondly asking to be a partner in the firm which is a business is her asking to have some stake or ownership in the business requiring her to invest money in to it hence the buy in. And if you all forgot Donna unbeknownst to her was being paid really really generously for years by Harvey because the firm wasn’t willing to pay what he thought she was worth so he came out of pocket directly to boost pay. Donna is single no kids no house in “New York” she’s got money.
Solved problems like a really loving family.
Corporate secretary needs to be appreciated for what she does. Same corporate secretary has 500,000 in liquid assets at a moments notice.
Looked up corporate secretary salaries. They range from 180k to 250k a year. Manage your money right, and yes you could have 500k in cash
@@denverbasshead Harvey paid her an extremely bloated salary out of his own pocket, on top of the money she was paid to be a secretary. She got enough recognition with the fuckton of money she made.
@@Whales1992money is not all ! Level, recognition , power ...it's a package.
@@denverbasshead Wasn't she being paid extra out of Harvey's own pocket? She was getting much more than the company thought she was worth.
Unfortunately, this is where the writing for Suits took a turn. Donna shouldn’t have been made a partner, it made no sense at all.
Donna shouldnt have been anything. They should have kept her as a secretary.
Written well was the Joan Holloway partner saga on Mad Men. This isn’t that.
Agreed. Donna is not lawyer so it made no sense at all for Harvey to make her a partner.
But muh diversity . And down with the patriarchy ... Reeee
It's just a TV show, not meant to make sense. Get it?
Louis prolly the most human character if seen in a show
*probably......Is it really that difficult to type two extra letters?

If you watched the series you’d know he’s actually not.
I agree with everyone she should have just gotten a raise she doesn’t even have a law degree. And when Louis was most vulnerable Harvey and Donna ganged up on him and made Donna partner and Harvey managing partner.
Why should Donna go to law school if she didn't need to? And she didn't.
yeah girl power. Girls can do whatever they want@@cambrie7946
or when Louis needed a kick in the a*s Harvey and Donna gave it to him.
Some states have laws regarding professional corporations (doctors, lawyers) - All the principles have to be licensed professionals. She's not an attorney, or did I miss something?
real ones know Gretchen as Laverne from Scrubs! I love her
So how Louis recognized Benjamin's work and loyalty and promoted him to vicepresident, Donna would have deserved to have Harvey promote her on his own initiative, without her asking,as recognition for the work,
devotion and support in the fulfillment of his objectives.
Because, as he tells her at the end, he wouldn't have succeeded without her.
He not only would have succeeded without her, he would have achieved it more quickly and been happier. Donna meddled in his life too much for her own benefit and did nothing to earn the position outside of demanding everyone give her more credit than she deserved.
And this isn’t Donna-hate. This is not putting Donna on a pedestal as too many of her weird fans do.
I never see these guys work.
Just look how neat and tidy their desks are.
This is the reason why this is the best show ever. They are all intellectuals from top to bottom.
Gretchen shows here wisdom! Love it!
Louis Litt worked his entire life for that position, Donna got it with a phone call. I’m still upset over that nonsense
Donna gave her entire life for that position, and she didnt nearly put folks in jail to get it. Louis did...thrice.
@@sersastark being a senior partner meant something in the initial seasons. At the end the title was thrown around like a soiled napkin. I am just glad they didn't make Donna a lawyer without a degree just like Mike, cause knowing the Donna fandom, they would have accepted that with both arms
That's how things work in life, what you least expect will happen---happens. Everything isn't black n white there are shades of grey.
No hate here but Louis is right. There was absolutely no reason for Donna to become senior partner nor COO. She doesn't even understand the law better than a first year associate, and the only things she's managed so far are Louis and Harvey's calendars. I guess in a TV show everything can work out haha
Many COO in law firms don’t have law degrees.
Here is a job posting for a law firm’s COO position:
EDUCATION
At a minimum, the COO will have graduated from a recognized college or university with major course work in business administration or management, finance, human resources, technology or marketing, or comparable work experience.
An MBA and professional certifications like six sigma or the Certified Legal Manager designation is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
At a minimum, the COO must have previous knowledge of legal or other professional service organizations and have significant experience in managing business operations such as human resources, technology, facilities, finance, and marketing. Experience in operational process refinement, budgeting, and HR is of the highest importance.
@@nelauren
Well she doesn't have a MBA or other degree either, so it's still bs
@@Jordy4610 “is preferred” is the operating phrase.
Did you actually watch the show? Because the firm wouldn't have survived if it weren't for Donna lol
We all deserve recognition. She does a lot. It didnt hurt anybody making her a partner on the contrary she was trying to avoid a much worse situation. A raise is too easy and after a while is jusr that a raise. You give somebody ownership in something and you are giving them the world and a reason to go on.
Louis was the best part of Season 7, the growth was great and the range was incredible by Hoffman
How can a legal secretary become a partner in a law firm?
If my lawyer made his secretary coo i’d look for another firm
Exactly what Louis should have done
I'm more curious how Harvey entered the bathroom one way and walked out in an opposite direction
I’m guessing some bathrooms have two point of entries lol
Maybe he was walking towards a stall to take a number 2
No he did not went out of the bathroom. Did yo not hear what Harvey said? He's got business to take care of! He needs both of the out of there so he can do his thing! 😂
Business trip?
@@nancymenke1494 Yes, in the third stall
One of the best series!
Harvey Spectre is my dream! 😍
Donna should've gone to night school and get her degree
I honestly think that would've been a better storyline, possibly something that builds for a few seasons. Maybe not a law degree, but a degree in B.A. or whatever is necessary for a COO position. Like what they did with Rachel going from an associate to an actual lawyer.
Like Mike did... oh wait. It was implied that Donna does have a degree.
@@EclipseCircle MBA would help
Would have been a great storyline for another season or two.
@@OiVinn-eq1ml When and where it says you need a MBA to be a COO or even a high level position. Many COOs... and even CEOs don't have a MBA, some of them don't even have a college degree.
Donna really started to annoy me at this point. She's way too entitled.

ive never seen a toilet that small with 2 exits LOL
Donna: It is time that you recognize me for what I have been doing for years
Did Donna forget that Harvey has been giving her an extremely higher salary than any other secretary for over a decade?
I think this was before she knew
@@Sagemichris It was a season after she found out.
The entitlement is hilarious.
I see a lot of people are saying in the comment section that Donna shouldn’t have been named partner clearly did not watch the show enough to see the value of Donna. She wasn’t just answering the phones and returning calls an email. She was actually playing an intro part of the firm Like Harvey said in the bathroom when Donna was working for Harvey and she would have killed anyone that came after them and most secretary don’t do that. They just clock in and emails and phone calls and clock out. As a secretary at the law firm, she literally had a secret organization of secretaries that work in law firm that allowed her the ability to have information that wasn’t privy to main partners of their respected law firm.
Absolutely brilliant show. ❤👍
My heart always breaks for Louis because he treats everyone with respect and goes above and beyond yet everyone just steps on him! 💔
i mean atleast they tried here.. hes like that younger brother everyone hates but secretly takes care of
every time I've watched Suits Louis has been nothing but mean and abusive to everyone at all times.
You are watching a different show for sure....
Especially Harvey. Louis only wants his respect and Harvey can be so cruel towards him. Do attorneys really speak to each other like this? Very abusive.
The moment Donna went from a great character to the worst in the whole show

Finally someone who gets it….
Why?
Ridiculous
I know theres a lot of comments about donna not deserving the positions. But, to be honest whether its deserved or not, that fact that she did it and got it... Respect to anyone (in real life) who has played that game so well
Louis is the epitomy of someone who only has their job and no friends
Louis had to be that way coz he was bullied and never treated well in his past despite being an intelligent one. I've seen such characters in real life. They get better with skills and work but they dont trust many ppl and make easy friends in personal life.
All these clips and no one ever talks about how the women on this show just charge into the men’s room like this 😂
I assumed they did not have separate bathrooms.
@@ricksimon9867 Nah they literally just pop in there whenever a confrontation needs to happen 😂😂😂
I was trying to figure out how Harvey entered the bathroom from one end of it and exited out the other end; unless the 'things he needed to take care of' was to take a dump.
😂😂😂
Donna being a Senior Partner is just ridiculous! Perhaps they could have kept her as a secretary, not for the violent, Womanising Harvey...but for a bottom associate until she gets fed up and move on to another firm, goes to school and go after Harvey's firm.
3:06 What table?
Kitchen table.
Have we seen a situation where Louis's treatment of an associate actually helped the associate thrive as opposed to just being abuse?
Donna has no place being a partner in a law firm. You need to be a lawyer to be a partner in a law firm.
Not necessarily true
Not true. There are financial partners as well. And some other non legal partners. However they're usually kept unnamed. But it wouldn't be entirely unusual.
@Alex Vanburen I've also heard very often starting firms or firms leveling up may take on financial investor type partners who have understanding of legal stuff or not depending on exactly what's needed. Essentially up front capital to help grow the business and take a cut of profits.
Nah, I ran many multi million law firms being a non lawyer.

Idk what feminism bs this comment is, but 95% of people who watched suits agree that the last seasons were terrible simply because of how much power they gave a secretary at a massive law firm just because she can talk. Everyone hated it.

Suits should be cited in psychological studies of male gender bias because nothing could possibly make it more clear than this Donna arc

I agree, Donna becoming partner is a little unrealistic, particularly in that context/location. But Suits is not a documentary. As long as it is credible, it's ok. Then, is it credible? IDK, because I watched only the first seasons, plus some bits here and there on youtube...
Plus, this instalment is all about women on the attack. IDK, about the timing, but maybe the authors' hidden agenda was to give a nod to the zeitgeist. Even more so, now that Jessica is out of the picture...
