- Except for a few years during and just after WWII when the sons were scattered far and wide in military service, the Chuck Wagon Gang has sang and recorded music. With necessary replacements in the group over the years, they have endeavoured to keep the authentic recognizable sound which made them a legend.
I too grew up listening to these songs! My grandmother was a Carter and the Chuck Wagon Gang used to come by her house in Sherman, TX. There was always singing and guitar playing with my uncle playing the piano! Wow! Fond memories!
The Chuck Wagon Gang means a lot to me and I’ve been listening to the music all my life. May God continues to bless their ministry.
Thanks for posting this, I grew up with my parents playing thier records. I miss the old songs like this, they dont sing them much any more in this way. Our little old church in N. Ga, still does but would love to hear some new groups recording the old songs in this manner...so many memories Thanks!
Thanks much for this! Inspite of being only 31, I actually grew up listening to their music.
I am ‘70’ years old, and these songs bring back sweet memories, some we used to sing in our services, others we listened to.
Just beautiful. God bless you .
nicely done video. I really like their beautiful voices.
i love the origional CWG my grandmother actually sang wit h Anna and Rose a couple times before they stopped singin..
I saw the Chuck Wagon Gang in Shade Gap, PA August 10, 1969... I believe the guitarist at that time with them was Mylon LeFevre...would anybody remember?
why did cover the pictures w/ writing-could you have not put them on the side or under---silly silly!
Beautiful!!!!! ....Thanks so much for the song and pictures!
That's the way church congregrations sang them, with a pause before beginning each new verse.
Hide Me, Rock Of Ages. J.D. Sumner and the Blackwood Brothers have a couple of videos here on youtube, but it seems J.D. overdemonstrates his vocal prowess in every performance (in my opinion), detracting from the song's feeling.
Harold Timmons, who was with the Gang in the eighties has Gospelgallery and all CWG music is there. I have ordered Cattle UK #268 Americas Popular Family Quartet cd hoping to get a better quality "When The Saints Go Marching In" than my old worn out vinyl. He is also sold out of "Higher: Complete 1940 Dallas Session" cd, but I have emailed Copper Creek Records and think I have been lucky enough to find one. I say lucky because on Amazon sellers are asking $50-$75, and they have one $14 incl post
I have made a careless mistake on the 1955 picture. Pictured bottom right is Eddie, not Jim. The Original Gangs final recording session with Jim singing bass was in 1953.
The picture for the "current" Chuck Wagon Gang is incorrect. It shows Penney as the alto, and it is Shaye (Anna's granddaughter). Please update! Thanks! Gail Bruce
Love this one and anythin gby the Orginal group with Dad Carter and his wonderful Voice God has been good to us!
