I'm glad you mentioned how hard dating on Tinder is. I honestly recommend uninstalling it and just dating irl most of the time. However VR dating seems to give a new dimension (literally) to online dating and a dating app specifically for that...might be worth trying for some out there.

This is one topic that both excites and confuses me. VR dating in genetal is such a troubled but unique concept, and on top of that a semi-dangerous one too. VR dating in general can be a tricky one. There's so many amazing people and amazing possibilities but also can crush people.
A lot of the issues come down to moderation and restrictions.
Thanks for the coverage Phia 💙

    • @StygianIkazuchi
      @StygianIkazuchi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

I'd argue that VR dating is no more dangerous than online dating in general.

    • @TwoEzDragon
      @TwoEzDragon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@StygianIkazuchi I would argue that at it's core, it is way more dangerous mainly due to the community and how easy it is to fake your age and hide behind an avatar. The addition to physical avatars and touch being added to online dating make for way more dangerous scenarios to be able to happen . BrandonFM has a very good documentary series exploring VRChat and one of the topics covered a few times across them is dating and manipulation. Would highly reccomend it's very informative.
BUT on the plus side VR dating has so many positives. I think moderation needs to get better, but the concept is promising and amazing! Hopefully it improves as VR grows :D

We got vr for this summer because we’re meeting in august and I love it so much, as with an already established relationship seeing eachothers body language and being immersed in random things together like escape rooms, fan made worlds of our favorite fandoms, meeting ppl together, it’s so fun, it definitely has enhanced our LDR

I would consider VRC an incredible tool for long distance relationships (both for wholesome and lewd purposes), or even just people who don't have a lot of time or money to go on dates otherwise. It's something I would definitely try to make use of in a relationship. But I don't know about establishing relationships where you haven't seen the other person (let alone don't have expectations to). Maybe I'm old fashioned but I have trouble picturing a relationship without the (even if unspoken) hope of eventually living together.

Blessed nuclear birb enjoyer. My work keeps me busy 99% of the time so on the days I have off, it feels disingenuous going well out of my way to find a partner that I'd barely be able to spend time with. Plus the time and energy going out and about would be very difficult. There's also the anxiety of meeting people in person first and the real danger of being alone with a stranger and rolling the dice. This provides a safe, comfortable atmosphere for people to more genuinely, passively get to know one another and understand each other's lifestyle foremost. It'd be nice if it had a friend's section, as I've noticed a lot of people using it purely to make new friends, too. It'd be nice to meet a partner through this, but being too busy to be in a relationship is a huge bummer.

I feel like this is going to have the opposite problem of normal Dating apps.
Where normal Dating apps build on physical attraction and relationships break on the personality front, VR dating apps build on personality and the associated attraction but relationships break when the physical attraction comes into play.
Even though those aspects might matter to different degrees to people they still are both important.
Disregarding that seems dangerous to me.

I can't believe we used to live without Virtual Reality for so long. I'm so glad I live in this century. VR is like the next huge leap after we had letters, radio, television and internet. Finally we can see each other, being present and experience exciting moments together in the most naturally feeling artificial 3 dimensional environment on distance. With each day spent in VRChat I learn more about myself and humanity, and the world around me. Even then it was in very early stages, compared to the 2000s where it really got advanced. Smart phones didn't exist until the 2000s. I don't believe VR became a common thing until fairly recently, wouldn't have heard of it at all about 5 years ago.

A pro of VR dating is the fact that someone's actual personality shines through. People have a tendency to put up an act when around certain people, but through a headset, you have a sense of anonymity. No one can really judge you for acting the way you do sometime because that's how they see you as a whole- This is who you are to them as a first impression. VR is a new life for people, and that usually means an entirely new personality. Plus, people can say and do a lot of things and simply evade consequences, either through an alt or leaving the current world, and what they do if they KNOW they can get away with it says a lot about them.

I'm an awkward mess and I don't really see myself finding a partner any other way than in VR. I have a _really_ hard time finding people I connect with, even just with friendships I've always been too picky about who I'll get close to. The brief time I could spend in social VR though... taught me that I'm not an introvert like I always thought I was. I'm just an extrovert that only really vibes with other awkward people.
It's been driving me insane living with my super christian parents, it's allowed me to save up a ton of money but I literally can't even hang in voice chat in my own home because they hear everything I say and will seize any opportunity to put me down. VR Chat has been a disaster every time I try. This winter I'm finally saying to hell with it. I'm buying a nice condo near my work where I'll have a 12'x12' VR space, and I'm so excited.
Hopefully in the course of making friends, I'll meet another dork like me and we'll hit it off. But even if it never happens, at least I can try. That'll make me feel so much more hopeful for the future, and I need the social interaction desperately, all I get where I live now is text chat on games and the boomers at work and it's making me ultra depressed.

While i love the idea of virtual dating apps i feel like going in VR or virtual just to date can lead to a lot of bad dating experiences. I have seen tons of online or VRChat relationships die or all apart because the two dating had a great connection but being far apart physically can lead to a lot of stressers.
While yes initially its nice to make the connection online for most we would like to meet up and eventually be together IRL, and I personally feel like a lot of people dont consider how that will happen, one person or both people will need to move and thats a big life change unless they want to spend tons of money only visiting eachother for the rest of their relationship.
So yes virtual dating can be nice, but also consider the IRL circumstances and ability to be together long term.
Also should say that I met my BF through VRChat friends and we hung out in VRC before we started dating, we now live with each other so its not all negatives but there are some that must be considered.

    • @sasielb8922

The thing is the exact reverse reasoning is why most irl relationships fail or lead to loveless marriages. They get too hyper with physical and sometimes cause forever mistakes that have them basically bonded together even if they don’t actually like each other at the end of the day. At least with vr you can block a person and likely never run into them again. Both got its problems but I think that true connections are the ones that prevail either way no matter if it’s online, vr, or irl

This issue isn't "VR-specific." As someone who's been doing a lot of online dating for 8 years (since I was 16) the issue of long distance has been around long before VR. "Veterans" to online dating know the trials of being far apart. The pain of no physical touch, restrictions on time, loyalty issues, and of course the difficulty of bringing two lives together. If anything, VRChat alleviates some of that pain. I met my girlfriend in VRChat and it's an ever greater experience than any other kind of online dating I've done. Since we have the sensation or perception of being there with the person that you can't get anywhere else.

Honestly I understand the appeal, I really do. As someone who met her current boyfriend on VRChat, I completely get it of course. But I think I can also say that physical attraction is still very important, regardless of how far apart you are.
The idea that by dating on VRChat, your partner will completely ignore your IRL appearance is a little bit deluded. People still want someone they can feel physically attracted to on VRChat, and one day when they eventually want to meet up IRL- that will obviously become more important. Naturally for some people this will be more or less important than other aspects, but it still plays a role in the more sexual side of things: which can't be avoided.
For some people it seems like the perfect option, though- like if you travel a lot for work etc. However for others, I reckon you're better off just finding someone IRL. VRChat relationships are great, until you realise that you cant physically touch the person. You can't lean on them, hold them, etc- which plays a huge role in just feeling generally connected to someone.
I also think that when you have a VRChat relationship, you get used to being attracted to your partner's perfect anime avatar. But IRL, you will eventually find it hard to be attracted to real people as their appearance simply isnt perfect enough for you anymore. It's dangerous, be careful x

An option to select a transgender option would be a good way to prevent miscommunication and false assumption. (I'm not trans but i think the trans community would like that). Also giving the option to send IRL photos to each other after the first date would be a good idea too or IRL stats at least. Just spitballin ideas.

    • @be1tube
      @be1tube 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

Better than a blanket "trans" option would be: gender (masc, fem, NB/other, won't say) and genitals (penis, vulva, other, won't say).
A person who would put "other" for gender would be trans, but have a different situation than someone with fem gender and a penis. Further, I think it is good not to distinguish in the user interface between people who have their genitalia from birth or surgery.
Given the gender exploration on VRChat, it might be good to have multiple gender fields: IRL gender, VR gender, (other context) .

From I can tell of the Google Play of the Google Play Store reviews, most people seem to complain consistently about a few primary things such as:
*Staying on the waiting list for a long time (ranges from a couple days to up to 2+ weeks).
***This seems to be the most consistent complaint***
*Unable to upload photos (during sign-up mostly but sometimes after
*Unable to start the app (even after restarts)
    *Generally buggy overall
*One person said they were encouraged to get a "sister app" to be approved faster
I'm sure most of these issue will be mitigated overtime but I do want to say I am very excited for this app and it's potential. This could easily allow users outside of platforms like Discord to have another option. I can also this or something like to be the starting point to getting VR as a whole more popular, encouraging more purchases of headsets and more capable pc's. I want to see this succeed!

Im glad you touched on the age issue, its a constant concern when interacting with people online. I could see people using the app to also just find friends in their age group. I do think vr could be a valid way to meet people without some of the risks meeting in real life can have, because of the level of presence as you said does give you a better feel of a person and what they are like. Full body certainly adds to that because you are getting more of that body language and now with face and eye tracking the lines will blur even more.

I met my boyfriend Caleb on a vrchat sever and just fell in love. The feeling of falling in love for who he was just as a person has made me so happy. He loves me despite how strange, weird, and obnoxious I consider myself but he loves me for it and I never thought I would find someone who loved me for that part of myself I sometimes hate. The obvious long distance problem is that not only am I in the United States military but he lives in Finland with a 10hr time difference. I cherish what little time we get together on vrc. Now because of him I'm investing more into my VR setup (currently just a Quest 3 :( ) and learning more about VR and PCs. I never had these things growing up so I have him to thank for the feelings I never thought I would feel on top of the excitement for my future gaming experience. My last word is simply, don't be afraid of falling in love on VR you deserve to be happy and your S.O. will feel the same. ❤

it was a mess for me dating in vr, lots of bad stuff but I eventually found someone very nice and we are similar in a lot of ways and get along well, hardly ever fight. My biggest issue is I don't know if I will ever be able to meet them in real life or if their would be a long term future in it. Just know you will likely have to go through a lot of problems before you find someone good. Know your boundaries, if you get treated poorly cut you losses sooner rather then later, as you'll be closer to finding someone better, and give others a chance who you may not have at first, they may surprise you, 1st impressions aren't everything, better to live a happy life with someone awkward and shy in your first meeting then going with the confidant person who made a stellar first impression on you only to have years of arguing and let downs. oddly enough the person I'm with now I was very very scared to let them know what I looked like, and scared once they see what I look like they'd just think I'm ugly and move on. a friend of theirs actually ciber stalked me figured out my real name found my family found photos from families facebook accounts... and then showed my girlfriend. And.. well she thinks I'm cute.... not the best thing to hear as she hasn't said hansom or good looking or anything, but.. I guess I'll take it.. granted I don't know if she's just saying that to spare my feelings. but she hasn't dumped me after seeing what I look like 6 months later. So that's good. I really do just wish I looked better for them.

We were part of one of those "VRChat families" where she "had two children" and I was the "stepfather." It was totally for jokes and for fun but that dynamic made it easy to progress to something further, naturally. We eventually started talking on discord, then followed each other on Instagram, then added each other on snap, then started voice and video calling. We were friends for a couple months and after getting to know one another and seeing who each other was irl (through various social media and video calls) we very easily moved onto dating. Though a little "strange" and unique, dating in VRChat can be absolutely beautiful, fun, and life changing if done right. I totally support this idea and hope it flourishes.

I loved how this app is a lot better at trying to make sure the age range is right, yet a thing that bothers me that even if they are 18 there could be some like 50 year olds who are trying to trick them into dating them? Idk about personal opinions on that but there is still that problem. Another thing I’d point out is I myself have faced the horror of being groomed so id would never want anyone to feel that so I’d definitely recommend trying to get to know their friends a little to make sure what age they are telling you is the truth. But… don’t let that scare you from trying honestly if it’s going to be a wholesome relationship you probably don’t have to worry about the age that much but if your going further then I would recommend learning as much as u can about them from friends.

Well I don't have too much comment to say about this because, 1: I'm a Minor, 2: Dating isn't common here if its one by one person and its oftenly discouraged.
However seeing Nevermet being introduced into VR has open up LOTS of opportunities and usually towards people who are In-secure about their irl personality, looks or just irl in general. But at the same time this could be a threat or a drawback to one common problem: They'll never know what they both look like together irl. Because at some point the couples, who met in VR, HAVE to meet up in irl in order to continue being in relationship, as well as being married
But its amazing to see the VR community and market being improved with new Application being introduced into VR and closer to living in a world of VR.
I hope I get to see more of something similiar to this but for everyone AND most importantly, Safe and non-threat to the community

  • @Pum-kun

    Here is my take.
These vr dating apps on the surface it doesn’t bother me, the idea of meeting someone on vr. The only issue that I think dating vr brings or more accurately multiple issues is this.
    1. You have no idea what they look like. So if you go and find this person and love them you meet them irl and have NO physical attraction to them the relationship will fail. Its just how humans are you cant go to someone you arent physically attracted to and have a romantic relationship where you will be happy in. I know because ive done that. I met someone online saw them and the spark just died. Im still friends with them but i just wasn’t physically attracted to them.
    2. The constant hate against online dating will make being openly loving to eachother (hugs, flirty language, etc) impossible due to the constant kid presence, and or troll making fun of it. And as much as being alone all the time with your partner sounds nice to some, to some people they cant do that.
Oh also on the physical appearance thing. I dont like how people are throwing away physical appearance because of the threat of being made fun of or making fun of them. Physical attraction is just natural and i think nothing is more flattering then someone telling you how good you look. And that is something you just cant get on vr.
But yeah. I think dating in vr is just a step higher then e dating like thru text. But it still has the same issues with some being less prevalent, or some being more prevalent. But if people actually do find people they love then more power to them.

Recently got a headset and so far i was really skeptical of social games. However I binged a lot of your vids and this one actually convinced me to try it out and get out there while staying in safety of my shell. As for that alone i Thank you.

my long distance boyfriend and I have been together for over 3 years. We haven't been able to meet in person at all yet but we're just about to try out vr to see how it goes. I'm waiting for him to get out of class rn actually, and we're gonna go, desktop mode, out in vrchat to hang out with people or find somewhere just for the two of us :)

what i think is, that vr dating will probably be the next new tinder in the "real" world.

wow that's actually really cool ngl, vr really blurs the lines when it comes to these things. I don't see myself being able to make use of this but that's just because I'm convinced that I'm cursed and will never have a regular in person relationship but vr can mitigate that feeling a bit and also help with the feeling of disconnect I feel when dating to some degree. I can imagine how it could be fun to give it a try and maybe at least make some new friends.

Usually one on one dates with someone I don't know well are usually uncomfortable for me because I don't know how to strike up a conversation at first. I usually like to get to know the person by playing games with other people
