Boy, there sure are some smart and insightful people in this world and Danny Hurley is way up there. He’s been created by great failure, shame, weakness, strength, love, and then finally success. And look at the passion that’s grown out of all of that. I find him to be so compelling to listen to and to root for.
Hearing Dan speak about accountability and positive work culture is refreshing. Definitely old school values that are pretty rare these days. Dan is the best!
Coach just gets it. Going through the process himself as a player, having a brother who went through it, father who was an elite coach…Coach Hurley is the perfect mix of hunger, attitude, drive, will and swag to be one of the greats. Sinister that he didn’t get coach of the year this year. But that will come soon enough. Grateful to have him coaching our Huskies!
This old school mentality is what helps a team win. A player who is for themselves with a parent who is only for their kid IS a culture killer. Team mentality, striving to make yourself better for you and your team, remembering it’s a team and not just about you, that’s part of what makes a great team. Great interview!
@@freakboy40 It is not about relating it is about these rediculous statments. In 2-3 years people get upset and want coaches fire. That is not a problem, but these statments are because they are not real when things go south….
Great interview by Jan. Coach Hurley is one great leader....need more like him in all sectors of this country. With a guy like this at the helm, it's easy to understand why the team feels like they can't be denied.
@@samueladams8430 We are all a work in progress. All you can ask is to constantly strive to improve. Hurley has come an incredible long way in terms of self improvement. A "complete joke"? Please, you have no clue of Hurley as a man. Outsiders/spectators will never get it or are completely jealous.
Is that anger or a passion that goes beyond coaching? That’s a love for players and a love for the game of basketball. You don’t see what happens in the locker room. If he was only angry, his players wouldn’t have the love or respect that they have for him.
Dan Hurley is the very definition of genuine. So much intensity, intelligence and honesty. UConn is fortunate to have hired him. I especially like that he is candid about some of the mental health issues he has faced. He shows that you can deal with these and still be at the pinnacle of your professional life, in this case as a highly successful and respected coach.
This is OUR AMAZING Coach. THIS IS UCONN!!! THIS IS THE GREATEST BASKETBALL PROGRAM TO EVER TO EXIST!!! better than UCLA, BETTER Than UK, KU, UNC and ESPECIALLY BETTER THAN DUKE!!! God BLESS Coach HURLEY and GOD BLESS UCONN NATION!!!
Dan is a wonderful role model. He is an inspiration for so many. I think of the legend John Wooden when I hear Dan Hurley speak. All coaches and players will benefit listening to Dan talking. Bravo!
As a Rutgers alum, I’m sorry they fired you. The men’s program would probably be in better shape today. I have always been a fan of the UConn women and now a fan of what you have accomplished. Best wishes for continued success and a three-peat.
Great coach, but he paid a high price. Forty years of stress of not winning, and having to living up to his father's and brothers accomplishments. An open and frank discussion of his life journey.
When he said they have passed on players with elite talent, size and athleticism, for players that give them the best chance to win really hit. Thats the thing he understands as a coach, its not always about talent, it's about roster construction, and mixing players with different skillsets to compliment the teams overall potential. It makes sense. I think he gets these guys that can shoot, pass and dribble, but also discipline. His teams run sets like an NBA team does and they are disciplined on defense, trusting each other. About like Kentucky was from 2009-2019
@@FireBladeRR-RSP naw, I was saying UConn right now is what Kentucky was from 2009 - 2017. And that Kentucky team that UConn beat was down their best defensive big man In Willie Caulie-stein who could guard 1-5. He plays that game it would have been different without a shadow of a doubt.
As good a coach Hurley is, and coach K was, and Bill self is, and Roy Williams was, an all the other greats, none of them reached 38 wins in a single season. If UConn wins out this season they will finish 37-3. Which is impressive, considering coach K only reached 37 win threshold twice in his career, As much as Kentucky fans are frustrated with Calipari right now, he is the only coach in history to reach 38 win threshold in a single season. And he done it 3 times. 38-2, 38-2, 38-1. Dan Hurley might be the only coach right now that could have the potential to be the second coach all time to reach 38 wins, if he keeps doing what he is doing right now.
Coach Hurley is a great coach, leader, and motivator of college kids .His family should be so damn proud of what he has accomplished so far at UConn. He is not done yet.May go down as one of the all time greatest college coaches.
Love what he said about parents…..they can be the fruit from the poisonous tree. I went to a game at St. Anthony’s. Young Danny has gone through the school of hard knocks. He seems to understand recruiting unlike Calpari. It’s a good example for other coaches but very few can follow. It’s partly DNA . College basketball is a mess in my opinion. This year the only player anyone knew was Caitlin Clark and Eddy from Perdue. I heard Matt at a clinic and I liked him but they only had one player. I am glad for them to get to the finals but they weren’t going to defeat UConn. Iowa women were the best team to watch this season but that’s history. Very good interview and Dan handled himself well. Hope Bobby can do something at Arizona.
Comment about coach/player/parent is as much valid vice versa where a family should make sure their child is in the right place! The number of unqualified horrible coaches destroying kids with massive potential is actually crazy and not enough talked about
She never pursued any details about the fact that he read the Bible and scripture passages, either (who or what encouraged him to do this, etc.). "Heaven forbid" (no pun intended)!!! You're so right - it doesn't fit CBS's ideology. Ughhhh!
He was very good player in college for Seton Hall. As a hardcore Uconn fan I watched him play against us and I would watch Biggie's games in general and I got to see him play a lot and he was quite a pest I didn't like facing his team and him he was very smart and crafty.
Gets fired at Rutgers.....then later Rutgers is begging him to take over....instead he pulls his name from contention....steals a Rutgers sharp shooter...and wins a national championship with him...🤌🏽 😆

Notice how she cut him off when he mentioned he reads the Bible for 30 minutes.
For wanting to know so bad what his routine is, she sure changed the subject quickly once said routine ran afoul of CBS Mornings' ideology.
He took a couple of minutes on this. She didn’t cut him off, just wanted to get a more complete picture.
