Here I wrap up my testing of the Generic Amazon Battery For my EGO equipment.
www.aroundtheh...
For those of you that have questions about if it will work in the power station. I have been told by the manufacturer and from my viewers that the 7.5 Ah generic and 10.0 Ah will works. The smaller ones do not.

I have a small yard that I can use the Ego weedeater on it but kills me, anyway, the battery died so I looked on Facebook and seen the 20" mower open box for $125 but had no battery. now I have a Ego mower and weedeater and no battery. I started looking again and seen the price was around $120 but remembered seeing a new blower with a 5.0 battery and charger for a $150...mowed the front yard in 10 minutes with hardly any effort and the side in back in about 20 minutes and had plenty of battery for the trimmer and the blower..the battery only lost one slot. very pleased with all 3 products..the battery needs to be replaced (trimmer) since I bought it in August of 2022..it lights up green for about 5 seconds then blinks red?
Love this lawn mower, I would highly recommend. I usually can mow my front and backyard 3 times before recharging.
We agree!
How big is your yard? I can't get my front and back on one change with a 10ah
1 year update? I've been using ego brand since 2018. I had one battery that went bad in a year and they replaced it. I have three (all 2.5 amp) and they have lasted pretty well. One is from 2018, one from 2019, and one from 2021. The 2021 item is having some problems, but I got it with a blower from an unauthorized dealer.
For the most part ego has been great about handling warranty claims. That's one good reason to go with the authorized dealers. The downside is that I feel like the tool shouldn't fail within in the warranty period.
That's a good question. I actually just called in a warranty claim this week on my newest EGO 5.0 Ah battery that is 2 and a half years old. I am torn as well. EGO's customer service was good and answered the phone quickly and only asked a few questions about the battery. They asked me to do a test on it for how long it could last in my blower and when I called back with that info they told me they are sending my out a replacement battery. As far as this generic 7.5 Ah battery that I got on Amazon. I have been using it as my primary battery for the last 2 seasons. I have almost not used my other batteries at all. It is holding out great, no loss of power nor runtime. So, that is my update.
I have a 5ah battery for my backpack blower, on turbo mode it doesn’t last long at all. I gotta get a bigger battery, thanks for the video.
Glad to help
When I went to do my first cut of the year, my battery died immediately. I thought I was going to have to file a warranty claim but I recharged and it worked fine. I did not know about the hibernation feature. Thanks!
Even though this is the first comment that I have had about the hibernation feature catching someone by surprise I know that you are not the first one. Glad that I could help you figure that out. I just bought a generic 7.5 ah that offered an Allstate 3 year warranty. Not sure I would buy without that warranty.
That sounds good. Where did you get that from?
Can’t wait for the generic tools to match!
Might be something to look into.
I just ordered the 5ah one from Amazon to try it first $105 ( w taxes there was a $5 off coupon), put it on the EGO fancy charger with the 4 lights on top, battery flashed red out of the box, I left it on there for 5min and it then charged from 1 bar green to full charge 4 bar green!!??, stick it on the mower and it ran, BUT on the charger it still flashes red!! I’m going to return it asap! Not worth $100 if it’s already dead ; I’ll try another brand and get the 9ah one and try my 🍀; Probably cheaper to hack two car batteries together to make a 48V xx ah hour battery and make a shelf on the top of the mower to just use cheap lead acid or AGM batteries 🔋
You won’t like lead acid
Thanks for letting everyone know how ego warranties work. I found out the hard way. Saved 50 bucks on a 7.5 ah battery from ebay. Had a defective battery after 6 months and ego wouldn't replace it.
Thanks for sharing, and I'm sorry that you didn't get your warranty.
Great description. Interesting that there is no thumbs up option to give you a good rating. i see it is worth buying an authentic Ego replacement battery
I am glad u r having good luck with the battery. For me having the ego warranty is worth spending the extra money. Especially if u r buying the bigger batteries.
Whatever works best for you, sounds good to me.
Thanks for this.
My pleasure!
Thanks for the video. I wonder when EGO will use newer batteries like the 4680s.
You and me both!
Thank you, Nathan for the follow-up and new TH-cam post. Still nervous about the generics. Is it possible EGO products can somehow determine you did not use official EGO battery and therefore (in the event of a warranty claim), prove that and void the claim due to misuse or abuse? I went out and tried official EGO 5.0 AH and 2.5 AH batteries in the EGO Nexus Power Station. The Power Station recognized both batteries and it came online. First up was the 2.5- I started my Hoover vacuum and it ran about 10 seconds and errored out, flashing red, orange, and green repeatedly and vacuum immediately cut off. Next was the 5.0- It ran the hoover for all I needed, about 10 minutes and used 1/2 the battery capacity. It's enough for a fluorescent light for a lot longer, I'm sure. I went back and visited the 2.5 as it sat, same error lights; Power Station recognized it, and so I plugged in a 14" oscillating fan. Ran for 15 minutes and barely reduced battery capacity. The error lights remained on the entire time the 2.5 was on the Power Station. Now, I need to figure out if the battery is fubar. I just ran one last test on the 2.5... when off the Power Station, battery indicator shows GREEN- Good news. Put in the lawnmower and it worked like a champ. So, there seems to be an issue with the 2.5 on the power station, thus I have determined that NOT all EGO batteries power ALL EGO devices perfectly. Oh well- this was a fun exercise. Still going to circle back with EGO about the error light when 2.5 is on the charger. Thanks for your TH-cam Channel; I appreciate you.>>>>Update 5/20/2022. Ego agreed the 2.5AH battery should work in the Power Station with no errors, so they are shipping me a new battery today via UPS; also said I don't have to return the battery that errors out on the Power Station. Very nice -
@Thomas Huber, that is actually quite the interesting question. Because your printer can tell when it is not an official brand ink cartridge. I am not 100% sure, but I don't think any of this equipment can tell that. Well, at least everything except the power station. I don't know what it looks for and why some batteries work and others don't. But I don' t have a power station so I know little about it. The rest of the tools I have never come across a data port or had reason to think that they are monitoring performance and errors. So pretty sure, but not 100%.
Saw your reply. That's nice that they are sending you a new battery. So, yes that is an advantage to the EGO brand.
FYI....The amazon link to the generic replacement battery included in your above posting is not working.
You are right, that link is no longer available. It looks like the 7.5 Ah battery is not available at this time. Here is the 5.0 Ah batteries from the same supplier.

I bought a generic 56V 12 AH for $241 to be used in my zero turn mower, and it was about the size and weight of an EGO Power 5 AH. At 4 lbs. 5 oz. it is considerably smaller and lighter than the EGO Power 10 AH batteries that came with the mower.
How can this generic battery be 12 AH with this kind of size deferential?
I’m going to do a test between the EGO 10 AH battery and the generic 12 AH in my push mower, since it only uses one battery, and time them.
Anybody done this?
That is a good idea. I have still been happy with my 7.5. I will be honest that I don't have a 7.5 to compare it to. But what I do have is my mower as well. My yard in the spring takes the full 5.0 charge to complete mowing. If I go more then 7 days, like 10 days for example, it will fall short. With the 7.5 generic I can mow the entire yard, then edge the yard and blow it off and still have power left. And I have a lot of edging to do. So, given the time frame and that the 7.5 should have about 50% more runtime then the 5.0 I feel that is pretty inline.
I'm willing to bet most people throw away batteries when they die. It's hard to find the metals. No wonder batteries are expensive. I wish more would ♻️
So, you bought an after-market and it did not work properly. Then the company sent you one that did work. Did you check the inside to see if it really is an after-market or if the after-market company switched out the insides for EGO insides? That has happened before to other video creators.
I have some more of that info in my part one of the review. th-cam.com/video/fD89MR6yto0/w-d-xo.html You can see that it is not the same. Also I believe that I mention that it was shipped from Amazon, not from their warehouse. Good questions though.
So the generic Ego is ok to use.👍
As far as I can tell. I have been using it as my primary battery since I received it 6 months back, and have had zero problems with it.
One of the tests EGO had me to do test the battery is unloaded run time. They said to run it non stop and the threshold for the battery to still be good is 27 minutes. I turned mine on and used electrical tape to hold the switch closed. You don't have to rap it more than one and a half time.
It would be interesting ... to test another. Do you use the same EGO charger and how that look and work.
I use the standard EGO charger for this battery.
Great.
amazon link in the description no longer works

Also, I have to think that opening your battery voids your warranty.
It does, but the EGO battery was 3 years old and I am not worried about the warranty on the other.
Good
👍 So glad to help! Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org
Will it work on the power station??
According to the company the 5.0 and the 7.5 work in the power station just fine.
The whole problem with Ego batteries is that it makes no sense to buy just a battery. Here is an example of what I mean:
2.5 Ah battery - $160
Standard Charger - $99
Total $259
Ego 24" hedge trimmer with 2.5 Ah battery and standard charger - $195, a few buck more than the generic battery (and no charger), way less than the Ego battery and charger purchased separately and you get a (very nice) hedge trimmer to boot!
Basically, it never makes sense to buy just the battery when you can get an entire kit for about $30-50 over the price of just the battery. And then there are sales on the kits too.
I totally agree with this. I needed a 5.0 battery, so I bought the new 650 cfm blower for $50 more and got a blower, battery, and charger. Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org
I think this was the plan all along on how they REALLY make their money. EGO products are high quality and have competitive price tags (especially on slightly older models that edge out the competition on specs) but... they know after a few years you're going to need that new battery.... I've got some EGO tools and am considering the switch to Ryobi, their batteries are 1/2 the cost and their customer service is very well known for being easy to use. Ryobi products aren't as high quality as EGO but they always seem to be just under the EGO specs resulting in a higher cost-to-value ratio, IMO.
When buying 12.0 I save $200-$250 no difference thus far ego vs generic
Bella speaking, do you accept cooperation? If you have any thoughts, please let me know! 😉
I'm not sure what you mean by cooperation. Are you talking about sponsorship?
None of this is meaningful without information on how much money is saved with the generic battery. EGO batteries are cost-prohibitive. They likely lose a lot of sales as a result.
Well the link is in the description
Ego warrantee sucks, might as well buying a knockoff.
I would like to know what you are referring to? I have had both a charger and a battery go bad before the end of the warranty and both were replaced. With just a couple minutes of trouble shooting it was confirmed that they were bad, about 6 months apart, then I was sent a replacement unit in a week.
EGO would not register my equipment and we're extremely rude to me. I'm like 70 and don't need this bs. So I have no warranty and judging from this experience I'll just junk it if it breaks and move onto a better company . I am not used to being treated as I was so will cut my losses on this, was/am pissed. Will probably go with an American company next time, segway robot mower has been getting better every year... Just was looking to warn peoples
Ok, I'm going to break this down because I am 46 years old and too old for sh*t as well. I do not get special treatment for making videos about products, and I did not have any trouble with 2 out of 2 warranty claims. You said that they were rude to you and would not register your warranty. Ok let's tackle that one. Where did you buy your EGO equipment? Did you buy it from Ebay or a third party on Amazon? Did you buy it years ago and never register it? Then you said next time you would just go with an American company. EGO main headquarters are in California. It is an American company. They are manufactured in China, but so are 90% of cordless equipment.
Then you say you just warn people, but my TH-cam channel is not a sounding board for people that are just mad. It is here for people to learn and find out the truth. So please respond with answers to my questions so we can get to the bottom of this.
@@AroundTheHome1 Thanks for the help but it was less than 700 dollars. I have paid more to get things out of my life. I still do have a new corded mower. Time to chill

Hi, Nathan. we've got 10% code of 7.5ah battery. will anyone interested?
I'm sure they will be interested. Give me one and I will put it in the video description.
Is there any option for european customers? Are you present on other marketplaces? Aliexpress maybe?
