      +rocketburn You must be having a bad day. I understand, it happens. I wasn't talking about race. Women of all cultures have curly hair. Perhaps you don't know anyone who does and talked to them about it. Cheers mate!

      Cheyenne Marie I think that's due to the fact of us being called African America. Africa is a continent so calling us that is the same thing as calling a Indian American Asian American (given that fact India is a country that's apart of the continent Asia), sounds silly when you look at it using a different nationality right? Once blacks were allowed to become full citizens of America the government should of gave them their family paper work that included where they came from so we could be called by our country not continent but no they sold all of that information to private companies. You have to pay $250 or plus if you want to know your family history and that's sad how we have to read a piece of paper to know these things. I would rather learn my family history by word of mouth. But anyway, the image America puts out of Africa is the reason people think its a one spoken language land. Yes we are taught in schools its a continent but was also spoken of as a land where all blacks look a like (dark skinned with "nappy" hair) but practice different culture in different tribes. If you show someone a picture of South Africa, their mouth would drop to the floor. I don't blame the girl I blame America weak education system.

    • @wrongpingpong
      @wrongpingpong 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Brittany Johnson That's hard on everybody if you classified people by country.
      "Hello 911, there is a Ugandan-Americ..wait no...a Nigerian-Amer....i don't know. A Tunisian-American on the loose?"
      It's a lot easier to say African-American. Plus, I doubt the American government even kept track of where the slave came from. Especially after slaves from different countries started breeding together. A descendent of a slave isn't a pure Ugandan. The descendant would be like ethiopian-ugandan-tunisian-ghanian-algerian-american. They would lose track quickly and nobody would be able to remember or identify that.
      Also, I don't blame the weak education system. Although students are taught about Africa briefly, they at least tell you about their several languages. And the reason we don't teach about Africa a lot is because we know the least about it. Eurasia was practically the entire world. Little is to be said about Africa, Australia, North America and South America until later in history. I think the problem is the lack of common sense of some people. I've heard the same question several times but it was always asked by a lower achieving student. In other words, the people who barely try in school.

    • @shuntae1990
      @shuntae1990 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Chidube Mekkam For me it's not about how people classify someone when calling the police or whatever. I want to be legally recognized for what I am on paper. The government had papers on every slave that was brought to America. All slaves on the boat coming to America were asked their name, age, and what language they spoke, when the ship arrived that information was given to the government for legal reason. When a slave was sold documents was given to the owner for proof of ownership and that information was given to the government so yeah they had and kept information but sold it to private companies like Ancestry Inc. How could a company randomly have documents of how much a slave sold for and who they was sold to with name and age listed?

    This made me cringe so bad...especially the last one. "I don't get mad when people try to touch my hair." Yeah, that's nice. BUT DON'T TOUCH OTHER PEOPLE THAT DON'T WANNA BE TOUCHED.

    • @AurosOrion
      @AurosOrion 10 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      missael soto Sooo, if I wanted to kill you...it's totally okay to do that, right? Because people can act however they want, right? Hmm. Might wanna rethink that, sweetie.

      ***** Everything has a consequence. If someone kills me, they go to jail. If someone touches me without my permission, it's not my fault when I break their fucking hands. It's common courtesy. Don't touch people that don't want to be touched.

      Let me tell u some people confused people by races they’re not use to being around. I’ve had an English teacher who kept confusing all the dark skinned Latino girls. I, myself have been compared to my other co workers who are different, races, color tones, and heights 🙄 we get very confused bcuz we know we don’t look anything alike.
      It doesn’t happen that often but still.

      That isn't a black thing, it is a "I have tasted real food" thing. I am as white as they come (Swedish) and American potato salad makes me gag. Why even call it potato salad when it is basically a jar of mayo with a potato in it. How anything can be so gross and simultaneously so bland is a miracle.

      I am sure there are but to be honest this is not my experience. I lived for a few years in the US and one of the things I dreaded the most was getting invited to "white" or northern black people for dinner. It would usually be fine if they were a couple of generations away from somewhere (Ireland, Mississippi..anywhere but Connecticut.) but if you went full Martha Stewart it was always a nightmare of bland and boring.

    • @shakaama

      Luvly Ren I think the potato salad thing is definitely a Black WOMAN thing. I don't even get involved when Black women get to judging the salads: potato, cole slaw, mac n cheese. I stay away and out of it. I WOULD NEVER bring any, to anywhere, where Black women were remotely involved.

    • @momopies12
      @momopies12 9 ปีที่แล้ว +134

      Bishop Brett Nope, they don't, because sometimes people think what they're doing is fine and not racist or rude at all when it really is. Take note of all the butt hurt people in the comments saying "I don't do such and such action", and "Black people are overreacting and blah blah blah." It's not overreacting it's based off of shit that actually happens to us by other people, and they want to get mad because someone's pointing it out.

    So my landlord is black and I'm white and he and his son were over doing work in the yard. I had just cut up a super delicious watermelon and wanted to share it because it would have been such a nice refreshing treat on a hot and sunny day, but I didn't because it just seemed too random and specific to offer him just watermelon. I mean 95% of people like watermelon, but the stigma was just too great. :(

      statistics show that the U.S. is more segregated in present day society than it was 60 years ago (segregation by neighborhoods). a lot of minorities live in the "bad parts of town", where there is a significantly less amount of opportunities and resources, therefore these neighborhoods experience high crime rates.

    • @SunyiSideUp
      @SunyiSideUp 9 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      I don't think you should speak for all black people in the UK. A lot of my friends are from the UK and have told me similar things. Racism happens in every country, and in fact, I've heard some of the most blatant racism I've ever heard in my life in the UK. That's not to say the UK is racist, but that racism is alive and well, there. Also, these videos are condensed examples of experiences many black people may have in the workplace. It's not an exhaustive list of things that will happen if you're black & in the workplace. Don't comment on the racial climate in America by pretending your country is so much better. It's not. And America isn't a big wastehole of racism, either. A black person can go through their normal routine, here, without being reminded that they're "different" in America, too. Currently, my time is spent around mostly white people and I don't get the things in the videos. But I have, ever, so I can relate. The main difference, I think, between the US and a lot of places outside of the US is that we talk about our shit more openly, here. Everyone else pretends they don't even have shit. Like, I've heard France is one of the most racist countries on Earth, but when you think of France, you don't think of racism and you rarely hear French people talking about the racism in their country. So, when Americans are like "this is racist bullshit, we need to address it!" everyone else sees it and goes "Haha, America is so racist" while they're saying anti-black shit and committing Islamophobic hate crimes. But that's none of my business.

      +Pat Kittle Many Black people's hair become the center of attention because of it's natural texture. It's "different" according the white people and for some reason, white people forget about boundaries and get to touching people without permission as if the hair is an artifact.

      @Nishchio 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm white and yes, sorry, I love to touch black people's hair (with their permission of course). Why is it a bad thing ? I don't understand... Am I being racist and offensive when I do that ?!

    • @corybaxter
      @corybaxter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Uranium it's offensive to touch people without permission and it is offensive to treat people's hair as though it belongs in a museum. It's hair. A natural part of someone. Why treat it as though it's some artifact? If you have permission, then touch all you want but hair isn't an artifact. It's a part of someone's body.

    • @Nishchio
      @Nishchio 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Cory Baxter But I always ask permission before I do it, because yes, it's extremely rude to touch people without permission.

    Everyone is freaking out about this video if you haven't had these things happen to you then it's hard to understand. I'm black and people say racist things to me ALL THE TIME, you can go on and say I'm overreacting but it's true. People come up to me and ask if I like watermelon and I say no, because I don't, and then they laugh and say that I should, because I'm black. Same with chicken and I'm a vegetarian. It's hard to be able to tell if a white person is being racist or not because I feel like it's a common trait to just be completely out of line with this question asking, and I don't even know how to respond anymore. When we talk about slavery in school literally everyone turns to look at me, even the teacher. White people say the most racist things and literally don't even blink an eye. I say white people because no other race is rude enough to say something like that in my face.

It snaps through so many aspects of how racism affect every interaction she has, innocent or not. I know "privilege" is a "bad word" but I can't help thinking: I'll never have to go through the exhausting task of navigating a mine field like that every day.

    • @SunSooTae

      Catatafish Yeah it is but at the same time most white countries use a lot less spices that other countries. The more salt someone uses the more someone needs it to feel the flavour of the food. So when someone who usually eats a lot of spices taste something with less salt, it often tastes bland.

That also brings along the excuse: "My friend/bf/gf/etc. is black so I'm not racist." Not telling you what to do but I highly advise it because letting race jokes slide like that encourages stereotypes. Whether it is your intention or not.

    Now about the hair, I am white and I try to not touch my blacks friends's hair a lot. Although, once I was at a party and I was the only white girl, and they straightened my hair and played with it for about 4 hours. My other friend is always asking to do my hair. So although I know it does happen to black people more, it happens to everyone. That's my opinion.

I usually avoid race conversations, not because of PC issues but I assume most black people get tired of being bogged down in race talk with every white gut they meet. Ps. the co worker in the vid asking about bringing chicken back was just asking if she wanted some lunch.

    I'm a white Hispanic. you guys should make a video about that. Yes, I'm a bit Americanized, but despite my paleness, (that's not a word... but curse my pale skin!) I wouldn't be so "gringa" if I hadn't moved to America at age six/seven. People think I'm not Hispanic, then they ask if I'm Mexican, then they ask if I'm _illegal_, YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT! And Puerto Ricans don't see me as a "real" Puerto Rican.

      That's the funny part, turning the stereotype on its head. It's not limited to race either. Sometimes people get overly sensitive when they've been in situations where they've legitimately been offended. The musing over the chicken is silly and made to look that way in the video. Also, show me someone who doesn't love chicken, right?

Look at what Black people have done TO it. Think about the fact that every formerly white ruled country inhabited by blacks is now a cesspool. Don't believe me? I have proof. Google "countries with a black majority. And there is your proof. Look at Haiti, look at Jamaica/Dominican Republic/ every Afro-carribean country.
