Very useful! Watching your videos gives me a better understanding of this language. I have been struggling for years but now-in a short period of time-some of it begins to make sense.
My mother language is Dutch and daily I switch between English and Dutch. As I see it, Chinese is the most logical language in comparison to those two; that's why I appreciate your teaching a lot. Thank you so much.
谢谢,继续努力,加油!

Logically for a westerner ¥1.5 would be 一块五十(毛)………yí kuài wǔ shí 【máo】. 一块五 sounds as though it means : one yuan and five cents. Very confusing for us!
For Westerners it's actually the same. The position of each number is decided by a multiply of the power of 10.
Example:
150 = (1 x 10²) + (5 x 10¹) + (0 x 10⁰) = (1 x 100) + (5 x 10) + (0 x 1) = 100 + 50 + 0
10² = 100 --> kuài
10¹ = 10. --> máo
10⁰ = 1. --> fēn
Hope this helps.
@@astridtaw That’s why to my western mind wǔ shí makes more sense than wǔ alone!
@@celiad6012 I see what you mean. For example, we say one fifty and it means one dollar and fifty cents. We omit the cents when speaking and we don't deal with the position of the number. In Chinese on the other hand each position is fixed by the value of that position.
It's quite a switch in thinking when talking about prices.
哈哈,非常好的问题,找到关键了。谢谢!
这是打八五折吗?真的?/Zhè shì dǎ bā wǔ zhé ma? Zhēnde?/ = Is this a 15% discount? Really?
I hope this is correct.
