tHanks for the video. There are some warehouses that use the longer custom pallets. I found that they were made from better materials and saved many 2/4s over the years. Good fun
@@Dancing_Alone_wRentals yes I am amazed that companies throw away some wood. I got 23 8"x10" 18' long new beams from a factory that used them to ship machinery from Italy. Beautiful wood. Building a cabin foundation with them. Probably $30,000 in wood from those pallets in all. Crazy!
@@roothomestead4504 Wow that was a great find. ( I'm glad you were ready when that opportunity came ) I'm trying to look the other way for a bit, avoid temptation, and organize so when Italian beams show up...I'm ready.
Did you come across any pallet busters that will straddle a 5" board to lift up 2x6 & 2x8 boards? I'm about to deal with atleast 40 coil pallets that are 55"x54" and 125lbs each.
@@rottiejakeluke sure. For me it's about affordability. I have access to lumber that I could not afford. Surprisingly I have found locations that have pallets made of premium lumber and very large lumber. Last year I built a 28x15 Gabriel style barn for $15,000. The insurance appraisal was $47,000 when I added it. If all I had access to was regular 4' pallets I probably would not break apart as many. Plus I have a homestead so constantly building coops, gates, and shelters. It's nice to just have piles of lumber laying around ready to use.
@@roothomestead4504 Thanks, I have found the issue, it automatically redirected to amazon Oz it is $427.94. I took out the .au and saw that we can't buy them from amazon US. www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00JH41U7M?ref_=mr_referred_us_au_au
Yep you just get a good nail cutting blade and you just cut right through that stuff like butter it's so much faster and you can stand the pallet on end you don't have to use your back all reciprocating saw is the only way to take pallets apart
But you would then have the nails still in the wood which isn't great for repurposing the wood (e.g. planing, sanding, cutting to different sizes). Also these are usually steel nails and they rust if repurposing the wood for outdoor use. You get rust stains all down your boards even if painted over.
Great way to repurpose wood. Thanks for that (came from the air nail remover gun vid.)
Thank you.

Unfortunately I have not. That would be very useful though.
Thank you. That's useful info.
Thank you. I really do not understand why there are so many people who do this with pallets. Can you please tell me about it? Thank you,

The point of the video seems to be removing the wood while preserving the nails for future use. It's what was being discussed.
