They did ban things for defense like how you couldn't run across the middle now players run loose routes across the middle. That was an advantage the defense had although you could throw across the middle but teams would pay and it was a high risk low reward play.
Like everyone I like watching good offense but I want good offense versus good defense not shitty defense. Also Dominique has it right the bigger problem in the NFL is the poor O-line play, and fools always drafting Wide Receivers over them.
After watching Aaron play an last night. I learned that current NFL qb play is bad, it’s not cover two it’s bad traits being taught to qbs now from an early age to bad coaching and too many rookie qbs playing, we just have to accept that the golden age of qb is over and the qbs were getting g today are not as good as what we had before
A key pattern I’ve been seeing with my college coaches and other college guys I’ve seen is that the qbs are always seeming to be taught reading low to high no matter what the concept is. I coach high school, but my qbs reads are different depending on the play. Sometimes high to low.
I believe a big factor of why offensive numbers are down so far is because O-line play has been declining. There's very few teams that have good OLs now, and even if they do, many of them can't stay healthy because they are getting destroyed in the trenches.

Honestly cover 3 is better at defending deep passes than cover 2 so if Kiper's big gripe is that QBs can't throw it deep anymore, its odd he would still allow that. I think over paying QBs has lead to a lot of teams without WRs or offensive lines (or both) to throw against 2 deep! A lot of QBs are being overdrafted and despite having athleticism, they are using it as a last resort instead of forcing teams to play 11 on 11! So these QBs are not dual threats because NFL coaches are not maximizing athleticism of these players! Running at QB is still shamed!
