Compared to Helene that is coming our way, Francine will tame. Forecast I heard was your side of the mountains could see 15 plus inches. (I'm on the west of the mountains over here in TN and we are gonna upwards to 5 inches of much needed rain.) I hope you are going to play it smart and hunker down with Suzy at home. Be safe!
The Thumbnail &Title would be epic if he did. Sometimes you gotta risk it for the biscuut
I think he accidentally scheduled this for AM instead of PM lol
Lol
It's what happens when you get attacked lol
You are one of the best Channels. So happy to see a video tonight. Thank you!!
Even better than Chanel No. 5? I thought I could smell something. 🤣
You are welcome
Wow Luke! You must be working late! I wasn’t expecting to see this adventure today!! STRENGTH AND HONOR my brother!! Jenelle sends you and Susie her love!👍🏽💯❤️
You know you can preplan automatically when want youtube to release an upload. He probably done this Sunday (for example) for this to be uploaded for today
you spelt Honour wrong.
@@eddplackett just showing support to my boy Luke, it’s how he spelled it!!🤣😂👍🏿
North Carolina, "Mountains". What people all over the world would call Hills!
You haven't seen mountains until you've seen New Zealand!
Appalachian mountains are some of the oldest mountains in the world
All mountain ranges will eventually look like that. Don't hate just because they are some of the oldest mountains in the world :)
If it's not Olympus Mons is it even a mountain?!
I don't really think that anyone considers anything over 2000 feet to be a hill. And since there are many peaks over 4k feet in North Carolina, I'm sure whoever would consider them "hills" is just significantly under educated on the subject and we probably shouldn't listen to them. No matter where they are in the world.
ive learned alot from watching (trey) youtube channel Convective Chronicles hes a meteorologist from Oklahoma i recommend watching his stuff for learning how to forcast the weather =D
Yellow jackets theory..1st time heard of it...But makes sense...
Ryan Hall Y'all local weather man
Didn't a cow follow you around or something the last time you were here?
Luke, you can call me chicken, if I could go camping, I am 61 and yeah, no way am I going alone out somewhere by myself camping! No thanks. Even as a kid family camping, if we went wild camping, we took another large family with us--so that there were four to six adults with the all us kids. That was in some pretty knarly places where people were shooting off weapons as they drank! Pretty scary for kids. I think about Dadylov Pass in Russia, they had 12 people? Only ONE walked out. So yeah, I think camping in groups of 15 to 200 people is good for me. When I went church camping back in 2012 there were several hundred of us over several camp sites. THAT was fun. I felt secure in my tent as knew just a few yards away were my friends in their 5th wheel trailer, and more friends in their tents over one campsite, just hundreds of of all over the campgrounds.
Lone Wolf Camping really does not appeal to me. I love group adventures. Realize we are in areas where there are cougars, bears, and wolves. Lots of wild, wild life. Also we had Big Foot to contend with too, so the bigger the group, the less likeley these predators are to show up. The sheer numbers of people literally drove away the bears and cougars from the area during our camping week--wolf pack in the area reportedly moved on--all of them were collared. We saw deer and elk primarily.
Cheers! Blessings to you and your family! Michelle Gresham Oregon USA
I'm almost 80 and go camping alone. If you're worried about security go to a state park, notice I said a state park or a private run park. I also take my Doberman with me too.
71, here. I hiked half of the Appalachian Trail in one trip last year. I had intended to hike the whole thing until a fall and subsequent knee injury sent me home. I'm breaking in a new one and hope that I can complete the AT next year and try for a thruhike in '26.
You got a weather system from a low out of Birmingham. I did too in west GA. The Hurricane is today, Thursday and Friday.
Luke, it looks like you guys are going to get hit by this coming hurricane. If so, be safe and try to keep dry. I live in missouri and wish we could get more rain. It has been the dryist in September in our history. Not good. Have a good night and be safe, and stay dry.😊
Thanks!
Good job Sir.
Love your videos... [the ones you talk in]
Luke is such a gay nerd...but we love him.
Thx for the hiking Luke!! We do appreciate you!!
Loved it Luke.Everything a rain soaked adventure should be. Thank you.
Dear Luke and Susie, please take care of yourself during this horrible storm Helene. I wish you all the best during this next couple of days.
My son love the rain the cold the wind huracanes snow but the heat may God keep you safe. Grandmom ❤
Hey Luke. I've been waiting on this video. I live in southwest Virginia and I knew you wouldn't miss this massive storm system coming through. Stay safe.
Granpa said the same to us boys while we farted around. I think now he just wanted us to shut up and split more firewood!! Lol
Always looking forward to Thursdays even though this vid was apparently uploaded last night. Thank you for another wonderful adventure, Luke.
This was tropical storm, Debbie. Some places on the coast near Myrtle Beach got over 20 inches of rain.
Love an open field walk. Wonderful vibe that is so different from the forest.
I'm in Charlotte awaiting the storm...lol.my wife and I Had to cancel our Helen GA getaway weekend, we were leaving tomorrow (Thursday) and come back Sunday but that's a no go. Iv been watching your channel for 2 weeks now and watching the backlog videos that you have. I have been really enjoying them...Thanks!
Coffee and camping folks - coffee and camping !!!
It's funny you're talking about yellow jackets today. That is the exact reason I am up right now. I had to seal off an opening under my concrete porch because they are attacking constantly. I hope tonight is my last night doing battle with that hive.
Great adventure Luke. I really enjoyed it better than most of the woods walks. Guessing the varied scenery and a beautiful mountain view at what made it awesome. Maybe it's because I have hiked similar trails along the fence lines before, near the woods in cow pastures.
When you went into the field and I saw the big tree, the first thing I thought of was your stealth camp out. The area is beautiful with beautiful views. Thanks for the video of a great place. Thanks Luke
Love the video man. "Sauce Boss" reminds me of my kiddo, lol. So true about behind the scenes cold food. As a TH-camr (rookie) I laughed hard at that part.
I'm guessing that this may be about the same general location as the Hiding In Plain Sight stealth camp adventure video. Shields up for for the rain. I like the way that Luke goes out on a hike, even though he's got something to do in the morning.
I love camping alone. I’m a car camper though. I’m not able to go on long hikes.
Thank you Luke! Great video.❤
Huge fan of your standard adventures, the ASMR stuff isn't my favorite, simply because I come to your channel to hear you talk. Most of the time I treat your videos like I was listening to a ASMR video, with you minimized and in the background as I get ready for the day, but hate it when its not you talking to us lol. I guess I just like the company you bring when talking away. Always wishing you the best with the videos, family and life!
What’s the trailhead? I’m in NC as well and been a fan for years.
stay safe out there. been getting a ton of rain all day here in GA as it moves it way up to you in NC
Looks like a double coming.
I'm in NC. This area looks like the Moses Cone area. Beautiful scenery. Actually, this graveled trail in the beginning looks like the trail from Moses Cone Manner to the gravesite. I used to go to Banner Elk a lot for the Wooly Worm Festival. We stopped by every time. When you jumped over the fence, it reminded me of the cattle pastor along the trail.
Spiderman
🎉
Hi Luke, I’ve never heard about yellow jackets burrowing in the ground, however, I have heard that in the Pacific Northwest, when Deers have a set of twins…! It may be a bad winter. Have you ever heard something similar?👍🏽💯❤️ from Washington state.
Wasps often build nests on banks, little knolls etc, when exterminating them always look out for the secondary entrance/s !
It is not really a harbinger of a bad winter, the Queens don't hibernate in the years nest.
Hype 🤔 why ?
Ego and clicks.
I thought yellow jackets always nested in the ground but maybe not..
Going over barbed wire is a big "No No" my friend. Rule #1 RESPECT folks land, unless you have permission. It comes across as "pretty arrogant" amigo smh
Thanks for taking us along. You have the best videos on TH-cam. 💖💖
I had a border that put ranch dressing on EVERYTHING. I like ranch, but not that much.
Wow Luke, it is absolutely beautiful. I love seeing the mountains and can’t wait to see all the leaves changing. This is my perfect time of the year. This was a lot of fun….thank you. Are you and Susie going to grave somewhere this year? I hope so, it is a lot of fun for this old girl….77….. my traveling days are over. That’s why I love to go along with you both. Take care and God bless you and all of your family. 🙏🥰💖🙋🏻♀️
Six big yellow-jacket nests this year on my MA property, a new record.
What do you have planned during Helene? I'm in south-east Florida and still under a tropical storm warning but you may feel her impact more than we did -18-25mph winds, gusts 30-65mph, a couple of rain squalls.
Ur grand father is correct 💯 as a kid from Ohio...in the summer of 79" ended I' was attacked by yellow jacket nesting under ground underneath a sidewalk and stung over 36 times. Well that winter was forever known as the BLIZZARD 🥶 of 79" killing over 2000 in the tri state region alone.
I hate rain pants! I bought a rain kilt for my Appalachian Trail thruhike attempt last year and didn't miss the damp crotch syndrome that one gets from rain pants - especially in warm weather.
Wear your rain kilt...
WEAR it! -
Think of a certain lawn chemical ad narrated by a bearded Scotsman. 😉
P.s. your thumbnail shows a clockwise rotation. A southern hemisphere tropical cyclone?
Sitting in my RV at a campground in Crosby Tenn. watching the creeks rise.
You give me hope I don't accidently crap myself in the woods
How long are the cords you're using on the tarp appx.?
What is it with ranch sause? To me it s like vinegar and mayonnaise with herbs and not terrible but also not great
Another epic trip, very beautiful area. I remember those camps you spoke about. Looking forward to the next trip
How loud is this guy? People that are a mile away from him and can hear him unpacking and making coffee.
25:00 pork Sloppy Joes. . does anyone Remember "Open Top Sloppy Joes with Cheese on top" is my fave and has been For Years. My Chef ( me ) gets requests for those Every time we take The Grand Kids Out Camping.
. They have to face such Wild "Grandpa Hairy Bear Prowling" to The Worse Banchi Ladies Howlings .. usually turning into Hairy Bear tickling Parties, and out comes The Waist High Campers Pouncing on The Banchi's .. then, for no Formidable Reason, It The Bear Attack Association Gang Attack's ..
. At the time you Recorded this episode, the Leaves are turning colors up here.
Yup yup yup! Open Face Sloppy Joe Mini Pizzas .. .. gotta try them some time, Great For Camping 🙂
That’s not the proper way to cross a barbed wire fence, I have them and have to repair them to keep cows in!😳😳😳
Yes Luke! There are Yellow Jackets all over the place right now. They are nesting in the side of my house surprisingly not under ground and every where else . Im working outside all the time so I know what I see. You are correct
Hey Luke and Susie. Please stay safe. The Carolinas seem to have tornadoes threatening them.
Holy cow Luke! I wasn't expecting to see this video till tomorrow morning..lol Awesome!! Can't wait watch it!!☺️☺️☺️
Plz zoom in closer with ur spoonfuls of food, I can't quite smell them 😂
I’ve never hiked in the dark I’d probably get even more lost than usual.
I’d love to go solo but between being a double amputee and a diabetic I have a lot that can go wrong. Sadly the solo days are gone
Scenery is fabulous, love the changing colors.
Hey Luke, love the videos. You are really helping me reduce the amount of gear I bring and focus on what is important. Just a thought. Why don't you use jetboil in your trips?
If the ants build their mounds up tall, it means cold weather. They are traveling further underground.
I know you need the lights for your filming, but you'd probably see a lot better without them. Unless it's really, really, dark.
I always got annoyed by the people who feel they have to shine the light in your face, to talk to you. A pet peeve.
I guess you could have gone IR, for the recording.
Thanks for the adventure.
Thank You Luke, hi Susie, great video. Stay safe on your way home LOVE and GOD BLESS You all Aloha Always Sister Chrissy Honolulu Hi 🥰⚘⚘🙏
I thought I was the only one who still ate sloppy Joe’s. That’s what is for dinner for tonight here…. But with fries.
OMG! I remember that tarp camp under the 3 pines. That was my first OGR video! 🎉
When you like it strong: Did you ever tried "Berserker-Coffee" from Germany? I didn't try it for myself, but they say its three times stronger than standard coffee 😉
I could never get used to Carolina white bbq sauce.
Always appreciate your videos Luke! I don't think I would want to be hiking in the dark, especially alone. I see who has all the rain! We've been experiencing drought condiitions here in Ohio. Listening to the rain is so relaxing! Nice day trip. Nothing beats the sounds of nature, relaxing under a tarp in the rain, coffee, and a tasty lunch! Strength and Honor ❤
You must be closer than to me than I thought. I love you videos
I am always wondering about the terminology applied... notably as it relates to 'storm' - a strom is categorized as an event of windspeeds between 9-11 Beaufort.... translating into windspeed of 75-117 km/h - I never noticed any such severity in these videos
I love the bright backpack!
I don't think I've ever heard Luke wheeze before, that hill climb must have been steep! 😂
Hey Luke, I'd like to hear what you think about this idea of the, 'taco shelter' on 'Grandfather Outdoors' forgive me if you've already done this and I missed it!🏴
"I was using a very rare military tent. A European one." Yes, we only have one.
I can do freeze-dried, packaged meals. I can even tolerate the instant mashed potatoes if I have to. I cannot, however, do instant coffee. You're less fussy than I am. Yuk!
NOAA and JTWC are the best big storm tracking resources in the planet- until someone shuts them down at least.
Yes, I have been doing my own forecasting for some time, I combine sites like Ryan Hall and others that show many types of prediction maps then add with local radar, time the movement on the maps. Now learning how to find areas that cause the "pop-up" storms. I do much better the the local forecast. How is that?? just luck? take your rain gear along.
A little migrant jumping a barb wire fence action!.
What beautiful pictures
Watching your new video Luke. It's 10:00 here in California. Just watched the video with sweet Susie first snow trip but you guys had to leave. I love you guys car camp. Oh hell I love all you guys videos. I'm waiting on you guys to do more videos at the cabin. The cabin is AMAZING. I love the rain. That's a lot of grass. That scenery is gorgeous. My grandparents would say the same thing about yellow jackets. It's true. I'm 73 and I lived it with them. Be careful. You need an umbrella for your camera. Is your tarp matching your socks.😂 I'm surprised you didn't have baked beans 😂 watching ferocious 60 mph winds camping in the mountains with sweet Susie four years ago. Okay I'm done for now. This is a long one. Hello sweet Susie. You are a phenomenal warrior.
This rain is not rropical storm. That will come later and dump up to 10inches stay safe
30:04 Ranch dressing on lasagna ! That's sacrilege ! ( lol )
Having to Orient yourself with a map is important, I've taken Orientation courses when I was in Militia.
I am very allergic to yellow jackets!!!
Not true, maybe 1 year ago you make a stealth video in this place.
How in the world can you find your way out of that wilderness in the dark, you are good.
Like backpacking on my own.
I love watching your show, but my opinion you spend too much time hiking half of a show is you hiking? I’d rather watch the tent and the hot tent and all that part of it just saying.
I was driving through Virginia when that storm hit. It rained and rained and rained. And rained some more.
I remember the last time Luke was at that spot. Rain is in the forecast for the next several days, here in SW Virginia. Rockin the chemo on day 10. 🤙
Her in the piedmont triad area....heading out on an over night tonight!
Solo hiking is my all time favorite, I do see the appeal of going with others but in the end I just love listening to my own thoughts and what mother nature is telling us :)
WOW yet another awesome episode :)
