Ok, Dear Reggie, I really liked the song at 6:31, and now the one around 12:__ something is unbelieveable. I am going to have to listen to this alot, write these song verses down, and study what it is you are saying, becuz #1: I KNOW it has deep meaning and #2: I live in a state with no legal marijuana, so therefore I am barely hanging on, cuz bud is what helps make us remember that which is IMPORTANT. And that which is important IS not what is put out there by the false society. But listening to you does make one sit up and listen very closely. Thank you Mr. Watts. I recently researched the question of "what is light?" and read that "light" is composed of bundles of energy. Now I am going to research "what is sound?"

He redefines identifiable sounds and quotes in such unidentifiable ways, finding identity and infamy in mysterious obscurity...A juxtaposition of everything wrapped in nothingness centering around the circumference of a universal void that contains the essence of everything...yet nothingness...of course is the key string that ties the tonal sub-harmonics that began at the end of the start of the big bang and echoed through the ether until today. As yesterday is two days in the future of what was to come three days ago, which firmly subsists last week as the future of the past from months beyond this year past. A brilliant derivation from the flower of life and the wave conjugations that defines the kinetic motion of the fourth dimension which of by way of ether can be plotted through space on the curve on which it exists. The straight lines deviate our thinking and produce deceptions our reality truncates the groove. George Clinton and Bootsy are on the ONE as perceived and described on the song Maggot Brain. TH-cam it and it will all make sense. Mr. Watt is hereby certified as uncertifiable and is enhanced by nature which after all is the funk!

otirock7 while Reggie is one of my heroes, I'm afraid of a cd of his not living up to his live performances. I mean I guess that's obvious cuz there's nothing like one of his live performances but then again, I don't think Reggie can do wrong. It's either amazingly funny or amazingly insightful on some philosophical/spiritual level. I really do think that behind his goofiness there are lots of philosophical concepts that he subconsciously or intentionally puts into his acts.

Gabriel sorondo Absolutely! A few years ago Reggie was a guest on Duncan Trussell's podcast(which I *_highly_* recommend listening to...best podcast *_ever_*, by far). Anyway, Reggie went into great detail about his personal philosophy, beliefs, ethics, aesthetics, etc. He's a *_very_* intelligent insightful guy.
He said he often smokes sativa before a live show...so that all those years of studying music theory & philosophy come out in a *_non-pre-planned_* subconscious highly-creative manner. He's such an inspiration to me, being a songwriter/producer myself. I absolutely _adore_ music theory...and studying the great songs/songwriters to learn how they work.
The trick is.....to put in a *_lot_* of time, effort, and study.....so that you eventually get to the point where it all becomes subconscious. That's the holy grail; and once you achieve that....you can improvise and write from a wholly honest and truly creative place.
If I knew just how much _effort_ and _time_ it was going to take to reach that level...I'm not sure I ever would have made the investment. But....I'm glad I did. I mean, if you find the thing you're passionate about...the thing you can't live without(which for me is music)...then all the study and hard work is effortlessly *_fun_*. It took me about 8 years of studying all aspects of music theory/composing/arranging/etc before I _finally_ reached the point where I could do it all without *_thinking_*. That's the key.
I guarantee you...Reggie isn't _"thinking"_ on stage _at all_. He's locked into a "flow state" where ideas just.....happen. It's almost like magic. I live for that state of consciousness....where creativity can't _help_ but well up out of you. Even now, whenever I enter that state of pure improvisation and creativity....it still blows my mind. It's still an utter _mystery_ to me how creativity works....even when I'm in the midst of it happening.
Years ago, when I would hear someone like Michael Jackson or John Lennon say in an interview that they _didn't_ write their music....rather, that it came from "God"(so to speak), I always thought that sounded so......*_pretentious_*. However, now....I totally get what they meant. If anything....the truly pretentious thing to say is that *_you_* are the one *_"making"_* the creativity. The truth is....*_"you"_* have very little to do with it. The goal is to get yourself _out of the way_....so that the creative energy of the universe itself has space to enter into you....and flow out of you. It sounds mystical and trippy.....but it's quite literally how it works.
There's nothing I love more than getting good and high off some quality cannabis sativa.....and then just writing music, off the top of my head, not thinking about _any_ of it, but just letting it _happen_. That state of consciousness is what makes life worth living for me. It's honestly better than the hottest sex you've ever had or the most sumptuous meal you've ever eaten.
Every now and then, when in that flow-state, I'll spontaneously come up with a riff, or melody, or progression, or loop, or rythym, or some sort of sonic idea where I stop and think, *"holy shit....this sounds **_incredible_**....but....I honestly have zero idea where it came from. I mean...technically I wrote it...but it feels more like I **_discovered_** something that's always been there."*
I used to worry that all the best ideas in music were already taken....that there truly was nothing new under the sun. I mean...what new genres or chord progressions *_are there?_* However.....when I'm creating music through the lens of really good marijuana, and get into that flow-state, the idea that there's no new ideas left....is *_INSANE_*.
When in that state, you realize there's literally an infinite number of creative musical ideas left. And not just decent ideas....but an infinity of songs _as good_ as anything the Beatles ever wrote. An infinity of musical ideas....somehow interwoven into the very fabric of reality itself.....just waiting for a human brain to tune itself _juuust right_ and tap into that potential.
lol....man....sorry to rant. I always get a bit giddy after watching Reggie Watts. He reminds me of everything I wrote above.....and reminds me that creativity is _the_ best drug ever. It makes life worth living. I'm just happy when I see people like Reggie who also seem to recognize and appreciate and respect that aspect of life. So.....rant over. Enjoy your day. :)
