- This is a tutorial on how to build a bathroom vanity. It is a very fast and easy project. I built 2 in one day! I build both for about $200. This video will show you how to make a standard 4 foot vanity that is 48" long, 21" deep, and 35" tall. This should fit a top that is 49" long and 22" deep.
This video will take you step by step through through the process of building this handy size restroom vanity. I don't use complicated tools or methods.

Quick note: I built two vanities for $200. If you buy the 1/4" plywood, 1/2" plywood, 50 screws, and 6 foot of edge glued lumber, you will have enough of those to build two vanities. Double the recipe on everything else, and you can build two for way cheaper!

easy use
Ok I built it following your video. It is a great and easy build. Looks good. I would use edge glued on both sides as the plywood split when driving brad nails in and would not hold. I did not use the reccomended top and the bowl hit the drawers. Im going to build it again a inch smaller in both width and depth and make the drawers 12 inches. Great learning experience, cant move ahead without knowing what works! Thanks
Thanks for the feedback! If you don’t need much space, you may be able to trim a little off the tops of your drawers in order to make the top fit without making major changes. I’ve done that before and it worked really well. I just used my table saw and sent the drawers through on all four sides.
Excellent video and I may consider making this. Question: What about using plywood instead of edge-glued lumber? I ask this because we have had warping on solid wood cabinets in our kitchen, and the humidity levels in a bathroom are even higher, so I would be concerned with warping. We are planning for quartzite countertop on this and I believe plywood may be structurally stronger. Thoughts?

Yep, Its time for me to build a nice bench so I don’t have to do that anymore either. Yeah, we just built a new house with a shop so I have some space to work with now.

You’re welcome! It’s been a while since I built this, so I’m not 100%, but in most of my projects I use 1 3/4” brad nails unless I think it’s going to pop through on the other side. Then I use smaller ones. 1” is another size I use pretty regularly
Love this build! I’m looking to do something like this but would like for it for be 54” rather than 48”. I’m still new to woodworking but would you be able to tell me what I’d need to extend by 6”? Thank you in advance!
Basically all the big boards running lengthways. Everything that is segmented in the three sections (ie. drawers and doors) I would just add two inches

Following your instructions I have a question. You have a notch cut into the plywood side panel and a notch cut into the edge glued side panel. The plywood panel is set back 4.25'' and the edge glued panel is set back 3.5''. This appears that the attached 1x4 across would be back 0.75'' more on the plywood panel? Is this correct - am I missing something?
This is because the kick board is mounted to the front of the plywood and it should be mounted to the inside edge of the edge glued panel. I just didn’t want to see the edge of the kick board on the side of my vanity
sooo where did you get your 24" glued edge board? I have looked at home depot and lowes and neither one of them carry it, at least not where i live.
I got it at Lowe’s I believe. Another option is to glue 2 12” pieces of edge glued lumber together. If you don’t have time for them to dry, you can use pocket screws on the inside of your vanity to hide them. I’ve done that before. Works great
Why did you use edge board on one side and plywood on the other? Plywood will be against the wall out of sight?
Yes. My plywood side is against the wall. You could definitely use two pieces of edge glued lumber if you want.
If neither side will be showing on my vanity and I use 1/2" plywood for both sides what other dimension changes will I need to make.
I recommend allowing the face to overhang the plywood 1/4” on one side then cutting that 1x4 (kick plate) to 48” and allowing it to overhang on one side too. When you put the vanity up to the wall, you will never see that side anyway. I can’t think of anything else you would need to change.

At the time, it was probably about $150 for 2 of these probably $150-200 for one now
Are the 1x4's a true 1x4 or are they 3/4 x 3-1/2? Same for the other lumber.
Great question. They are 3/4 x 3 1/2”. Any time I use lumber it will be the standard lumber size like this. I try to let you know if something I use is different

It came with my saw. Unfortunately, I don’t think they sell this model anymore

Your list in description says 1x8 but in the video you use a 1x10. I have a 1x8 and im guessing thats not right lol
That’s a very good catch. You need a 6’ 1x10 for the doors and a 6’ 1x8 for the drawer fronts. I updated the materials list. Thank you for your help!

could you give a written description of the plan of the cabinet -- I'm not following all your steps clearly and most likely will be making incorrect cuts.
