I own it, and have used it. It's really nice. If you're anything but the standard sized person, you'll appreciate the thing adjusting to your dimensions a LOT. And it looks awesome. And the detachable mags are great. I mean, it does literally everything it could to enhance the functionality of that weapon. If you want it, just get it. It's a beauty.
Thanks for the vid as always! I honestly wouldn't trust myself to do the free-floating part of this tip using a rotating burr. It's quite easy to slip and scratch your stock, and you're working at quite an awkward angle for most of the way to control that drill. On the other hand, I guess it's simple enough to use a fitting file or a piece of wood and sandpaper to do the same in a bit more time and effort, but with less risk of messing it up.
Eric, thanks for exposing me to the word "Caddywhompus". The use of this word magnifies the efficacy, quality, and entertainment value of the video at least three fold.
THANK YOU. I just picked up a few more Mosins so I could have some winter projects. I was planning on mounting an action (or 2) in some aftermarket stocks. ATI was one of my choices. I will surely use this video for guidance when doing my upgrades. Keep up the great work!!! Keep the vid's coming.
Saw your video, you have a couple of very nice examples. And totally agreed, I am referring to wartime built rifles when I'm talking about the poor build quality.
Nothing wrong with trying out different methods. I'm all ears to something that may work better. If I had ever had a bad attitude about gunsmithing earlier on, I wouldn't know what I know now. I'm still learning.
@ brock. you float the barrel to even the stress being placed on the barrel. in wood stocks humidity can push your point of impact around as it rises and falls. plus if your stock touches the barrel it can rub the finish of and lead to rust. its a good idea in wood or synthetic to free float.
Climb cutting vs. conventional cutting may be a helpful tip also. Eric is climb cutting, the rotation of the cutter into the travel of the cut. Less tool pressure that way.
Thanks for showing what tools you used. I used a dremel to inlet mine for a timney trigger and all it did was melt the stock in the areas I was inletting. PITA and took forever. I have a Boyds for my second build and I look forward to using everything I have learned from your videos to get it done.
Great video Eric. I think I have watched most of the videos you have posted through the years and greatly enjoy them. I studied radio and film in college. Might I suggest to drastically pull down and lower the sound in post, during loud events like toolwork and gunshots. I like to listen to vids and learn while I work, but can't watch hickok45 vids, range or toolwork vids because the volume level to hear the speaker clearly is very out of proportion from the noise acceptable in an apartment.
I have a tan version of the ATI stock on my M38. I've been trying to sight in a scout scope setup but had bad luck. I think this will help be out greatly. Thanks Eric.
Thank you for this video! I've got my chinese type 53 down to 1moa with S&B ammo. I still have to recrown the barrel and glass bet the tang and recoil lug. I hope to bring it to slightly sub moa
Kind of wish I didn't sell my 1941 un-refurbished Izzy imported by Rauns of C'ville Ill, The only reason I did was that the stock broke and I had replaced it with a ATI stock, even after fitting, I could never get it to charge with stripper clips while in it. Before my wooden stock broke I didn't even have to tip the top round for leverage, it loaded straight in. Now after I sold it, I can find wooden stocks cheap. Now I have a Type 53 that I got before they were imported again. Beautiful gun..
I have the Archangel Mosin stock. There are no kinks to work out, the stock itself is amazing. They had a couple of hickups with the magazine, but those are fixed, too (I have a couple of perfect 10 rd mags to prove it). She's just as pretty as she looks on the internet. Get you one.
I got my first mosin last weekend. All matching numbers looks like it has had only a few rounds fired. Stock has been handled alot. Cant wait to put rounds down range with it.
Iraqveteran8888 Do you ever think you'll do a review on the Archangel stock for the mosin or any of the other Archangel stocks like the mini I noticed none of the major TH-cam channels done a review on them yet i would really like to see some don't know why no one done it yet though
Sorry to break it to you, but there will always be a different opinion. The way I see it is that the Mosin is the quintessential rifle in my mind and is in many ways the definition of a rifle. I mean, they even made them in LEGO form along with other well known rifles. I think its beautiful. Its very elegant, very traditional like I like them, it shoots a great round, you can do all kinds of things to it and its extremely reliable.
Hey Eric, just a tip here and maybe I am the only one who has seen this. Why not put the drill in the vice running, and run the stock up and down the running drill bit? See what I mean here? This way you could hold and articulate the stock in your hands while the drill acts as a stationary lathe. As always though, love your content and will continue to draw from your advice until my Mosin is complete :-)
Thanks for this great DIY. Bought Brownells Acraglas 2 Gun Accurizing Bedding Kit Acraglas 2 Gun Kit 10100 on eBay for less than 30 bucks. Can't wait to start this project.
I've been trying to shop online at moss pawn and see if I could get one of your custom saiga builds and also a custom mosin. Would love one of them mosin's customized like ya'l did.
i agree it be a fun way to see who the whole or ever better if you did one mod at a time to see how the parts make a whole then see it all come together
hi guys. would you consider making a video on how to repair /fix /paint, etc scratches on a receiver such as on a Remington 870 scratches that may occur when a side saddle is used. Thanks
After watching this video of you slipping a paper between barrel and stock give me an idea. For super accurate relieving around barrel why not use sand paper (grade of your choice) with grit towards stock and just use a polishing method back and forth? You would still need to use bits to get into curved or difficult areas.
I accurized a Mosin with an ATI 10 years ago. By the time I was done, it weighed WAY more than the military stock, just to get back to the military stock level of accuracy. I had to undercut the injection molded plastic so it would grip the added epoxy.
I did mine with a Razor and a big ass file, and a pocket knife. To try to get the interrupter to work I was lucky enough to have a friend with a Dremel, and that still didn't open it enough to make it work.
In response to Overgrown: Think of it like cars. Why do some people pour a lot of money into fixing up an old car? : Many like to do this and see how they can improve it. It is fun for them and when they are done, they have something they created from an old car. You also learn something about cars along the way. In this case it would be rifles as you learn more from doing than just from reading about it. It is not about the money it is about the journey, creation and learning.
Great video as always. Have you done any Mosins with the archangel stock. That what i have and i love it. Did have to tweak it a bit but you can run a 10 round mag with it and it works great. Love to see you do something on that
How much difference does it make? I'd be interested to see a test with an unmodified 91/30 with the groups at 100 yards (or any uniform distance really), then float the barrel, do the same test and then bed it and do the same test? I'd be interested to see how much the group tightens up.
I prefer the stanard military spec Mosins, wood stock and all. However if your stock is cracked or perhaps you own 4.. Why not do this? I do prefer the barrel/stock rings. Wish they'd incorporate that in the ATI stocks.
The stock putting pressure on the barrel can change the point of impact, and that will change as the barrel heats up..... Wood stocks will warp with changes in temperature and humidity, plastic stocks don't have that problem but still should not touch the barrel.
Thanks for the great how to video Eric! Please follow up with a range report and do you have thoughts on the benefits of putting a muzzle brake on your 91/30?
Well I live in California too, and I prefer the whole crate over the single tin. I just checked and the shipping was $62.48 which is way too expensive. I can get the same crate for about 220 which is roughly .25 a round.
How about an accuracy test with the Mosin BEFORE any modifications and then AFTER you've done all the bedding/free-floating/accurizing? That's what will really tell the tale. :^)
This might sound stupid but how does having it free float help? Sorry for the dumb question but I've never used anything that's free floating as far as I know. Thanks for all the work you guys put into your videos by the way :) I haven't seen all of them but I am a big fan :)
I'd love to see you guys work on and review the mosin with the archangel stock. If you need one for the vid, I will send you mine. thanks for the vids.
Why isn't the stock's barrel channel wide enough to free float the barrel to begin with? It seems like a pretty big oversight by the factory to produce a stock that lacks this important yet simple feature. If I am paying good money for an ATI stock, shouldn't it be free floated to begin with?
Drills aren't meant to be used as a Dremel tool. The side-load from cutting with a burr like that can increase the run-out of your drill. I might do it with my disposable $25 Chinese Black & Decker, but I wouldn't do it with a good DeWalt cordless.
If the stock on your current mosin is serviceable, I would just stick with that. Especially if you don't have money to spare. At most I would get a recoil pad and a slip on cheek riser, depending on your own personal preferences and build.
I would just like to throw in my 2 cents. Devcon plastic steel is so much easier as it has a consistency like peanut butter and stays where you put it. no running. It's more expensive but well worth the money. I am not a professional gunsmith like Erik so I like every advantage I can get to make my work look as professional as I can.
There are just a certain amount of no life haters that have subscribed to this channel for the sole purpose of thumbing down every video he releases I think.
How do you guys feel about 18-20 years olds not being able to own handguns or conceal carry? I assume the laws are the same in Georgia as it is here in Texas.
Would you guys sell a Mosin Nagant with the ATI and this Mod and scope mod already on it? Rough idea in terms of price? I understand price will fluctuate with labor and parts
so, im on a really strict budget in the sense that i lost my job, and am now focusing on putting 99% of my money towards my move to Alaska. what would i be looking at for price for one of these stocks? or should i go with my original plan of making my own sportorized stock? keep in mind that i have very limited experience with wood work, and very limited funds. could you help me out?
I own it, and have used it. It's really nice. If you're anything but the standard sized person, you'll appreciate the thing adjusting to your dimensions a LOT. And it looks awesome. Eric, thanks for exposing me to the word "Caddywhompus". The use of this word magnifies the efficacy, quality, and entertainment value of the video at least three fold.
You could also use about a one inch dowel rod and 80 grit sandpaper to open the barrel channel.
THANK YOU. I just picked up a few more Mosins so I could have some winter projects. I was planning on mounting an action (or 2) in some aftermarket stocks. ATI was one of my choices. I will surely use this video for guidance when doing my upgrades. Keep up the great work!!! Keep the vid's coming.

I miss these types of videos.

Your hand so steady. Good work.

Ive used jb weld on my 10/22's and it works very well.
Mr Mosin and Mr Nagant are rolling over.
Great Video! I'm going to use my 1944 Mosin Nagant for Deer Hunting this Winter.

Eric's a true gunsmith!
Good video... Makes me wonder why the barrel channels are not made larger when new ? It would not cost any more to mold them this way.
16:48 What the fuck?
when i jb welded mine i used neutral shoe polish...works well just use a lot of it and cover everything.
Iraqveteran8888 Do you ever think you'll do a review on the Archangel stock for the mosin or any of the other Archangel stocks like the mini I noticed none of the major TH-cam channels done a review on them yet i would really like to see some don't know why no one done it yet though
Great video. I love the how to vids. Love the channel.
Good video. Could you show the results in another video? I and others I'm sure would like to see how it turned out. Thanks, Hank
I like these How to vids . Keep 'em coming .
Sorry to break it to you, but there will always be a different opinion.

Great vid - thanks. Just refinished my Mosin - looks fantastic. Love those guns.
enjoying this mosin project
Thanks for this great DIY. Bought Brownells Acraglas 2 Gun Accurizing Bedding Kit Acraglas 2 Gun Kit 10100 on eBay for less than 30 bucks. Can't wait to start this project.

hi guys. would you consider making a video on how to repair /fix /paint, etc scratches on a receiver such as on a Remington 870 scratches that may occur when a side saddle is used. Thanks
I"m surprised you haven't done a video with the Archangel Mosin Nagant stock yet. You all should get on that.
Has it ever occurred to you that plenty of guys would do this job for the fun? Maybe the satisfaction having done some custom work on your own rifle?
Excellent video, just bought a third Mosin just to make a sporter.
I've used jb weld in my mosin. Major improvement :)

This one of the most in depth video. Great job! Would to see an enfield done.
LOL ,pickles ....gotta love that sense of humor...
on the inside of the stock it says MOISIN NAGANT cant even spell it right lol
I accurized a Mosin with an ATI 10 years ago.
By the time I was done, it weighed WAY more than the military stock, just to get back to the military stock level of accuracy.
I had to undercut the injection molded plastic so it would grip the added epoxy.
Thanks for doing what you do.
You're right! Mosin's shouldn't be messed with.
From the quick look we get I would bet its the Rock solid mount seen in an earlier upload
I did mine with a Razor and a big ass file, and a pocket knife. To try to get the interrupter to work I was lucky enough to have a friend with a Dremel, and that still didn't open it enough to make it work.
Also I love the exit music .
I'd love to see you guys make an Obrez.

I would like to see you do a mosin build with a Promag Archangel mosin stock.
I agree, this rifle is the tank of all rifles.
I'm holding out for the Archangel stock. Waiting for them to work the bugs out I hear it needs some adjusting but great concept.
Picked up some soft tip on Saturday for just that reason.
Will we see the results of the work? It would be great to see before groups and after groups to see what effect that really has.
Eric, wouldn't it be better to use the burs on a drill press rather than a hand drill?
Would like to see it run, put some shots down range.
Great video as always. Have you done any Mosins with the archangel stock. That what i have and i love it. Did have to tweak it a bit but you can run a 10 round mag with it and it works great. Love to see you do something on that
Love the armpit spray.

what are the outro songs you use? also these how to videos are so awesome that you guys produce! kudos to taking the time and effort!:D
You will change your mind when you see how awesome this rifle did at the range.
Great video man. I know everyone wants you to do a certain gun but what about maybe saiga conversions
The stock putting pressure on the barrel can change the point of impact, and that will change as the barrel heats up..... Wood stocks will warp with changes in temperature and humidity, plastic stocks don't have that problem but still should not touch the barrel.
Thanks for the great how to video Eric! Please follow up with a range report and do you have thoughts on the benefits of putting a muzzle brake on your 91/30?
do a video on the Boyds Featherweight stock

That's what will really tell the tale.
:^)
Could you please do a video about accurizing an older mini 14?
Some people will dislike simply because they can. Whether they be haters of the channel or anti gunners
This might sound stupid but how does having it free float help? Sorry for the dumb question but I've never used anything that's free floating as far as I know. Thanks for all the work you guys put into your videos by the way :) I haven't seen all of them but I am a big fan :)

Do a review on the Archangel stock!
You guys should really do a period correct "Sniper" build with a PU scope. That would be awesome in my eyes.
What's to do? Throw on a scope and you're done.
how hard is it to break a mechanical bond with an armpit? do you just gotta cut the arm off?
Can you do a scope mount video
Drills aren't meant to be used as a Dremel tool. The side-load from cutting with a burr like that can increase the run-out of your drill. I might do it with my disposable $25 Chinese Black & Decker, but I wouldn't do it with a good DeWalt cordless.
16:50, nice touch :)
If the stock on your current mosin is serviceable, I would just stick with that. Especially if you don't have money to spare. At most I would get a recoil pad and a slip on cheek riser, depending on your own personal preferences and build.
Where would you recommend picking up the burring tools?
what about the new stock I think is an ATI the one with the removable mag?
Forgot to ask,,, how did do they normally shoot (group size) before and after this mod ?
I would just like to throw in my 2 cents. Devcon plastic steel is so much easier as it has a consistency like peanut butter and stays where you put it. no running. It's more expensive but well worth the money. I am not a professional gunsmith like Erik so I like every advantage I can get to make my work look as professional as I can.

How do you guys feel about 18-20 years olds not being able to own handguns or conceal carry? I assume the laws are the same in Georgia as it is here in Texas.
could u show how to put on a aim rail system that uses the rear sight dovetail mines being finicky
Where did you get the Burs and what size are they?
what kind of lube would work well when carving the stock? or is lube even needed?
How much would you guys charge to rebarrel a mosin and accurize it in a archangel stock(that crazy one with the magazine attatchment)?
Would you guys sell a Mosin Nagant with the ATI and this Mod and scope mod already on it? Rough idea in terms of price? I understand price will fluctuate with labor and parts
Looking to add another mos in to my collection I own a type 53 wondering if I should buy a 91/30 or model 44
so, im on a really strict budget in the sense that i lost my job, and am now focusing on putting 99% of my money towards my move to Alaska. what would i be looking at for price for one of these stocks? or should i go with my original plan of making my own sportorized stock? keep in mind that i have very limited experience with wood work, and very limited funds. could you help me out?
One thing i want to know is how if your barrel like mos mosins has some pitting and frosting how can you get the grime out of the barrel?
