I like this year’s format better. Last year the VCS 2nd seed lost once and was eliminated in the playins bc they lost at the wrong time, while GAM lost but was able to make it to the swiss stage. Not repeating matchups is also good.

The system got exploited and maybe 10% of the tickets got to an actual person buying it jut for them. yes there a are a lot of ppl wanting tickets, but other big events like taylor swift concerts managed to make a system that cant be exploided as much as the one from AXS.
last year swiss-stages couldnt even fill the whole venue unless it was LCK vs X, G2 or FNC vs X. This years MSI was the same venue wasnt filled either. There is CLEARLY a reason they chose riot games arena. Even today Losers Bracket in Munich wasnt full there were spaces of empty seats. From financial POV a good move.
They can give 20 dollars tickets which not sold in big arena and 2000 ppl go and also pay the rent money for the stadium or they can sell 200 ticket for 5k cause of the limited space, dont worry riot did the math

This has never been a thing for knockout. We’ve had several world’s where we have most of the LCK teams on one side of the bracket and LPL on the other.
LpL tried fearless, but it changed almost nothing. Same 30 champs picked either way. Either the coaches try something new on their own or Riot needs to ban like 50 different champs each month from competitive play to enforce a change.

Major regions (KR, CN, EU, NA) get 3 seeds. Winner of MSI gets an additional slot for its region (reserved for the winner of msi in case they qualify for playoffs but don't make top3). Second seed at MSI (assuming second seed is from different region than winner) gets a fourth slot for its region that isn't reserved for the runner up...
For the love of god add double elim for the knockout and have playdays during the week instead Of only weekends. How many blowout finals and events where the best matches happen in semis or quarters do you intend to have?

But that said, I'm also not a fan of double elim for lol, a BO3 and BO5 final in knockout is enough.

i still dont like final bracket single elimination format because you can place significantly lower in the standings by getting unlucky. for example lets say that g2 would win against weibo but lose against blg, if g2 starts against weibo they make it to semifinals, but if they get matched against blg they fall in quarters. and some other team could place semifinals even if they were worse than g2. this is just a hypothetical but a team can hypothetically finish either 3rd or 7th based on luck alone who their first opponent happens to be in quarterfinals. i hope that makes sense. unless theres a separate loser bracket to get the teams in order but where they cant get 1st place anymore. then the format is fine i think. edit: lets say that blg would be the best team and second best team would be hle for example, if hle matches into blg in quarterfinals they end up like 5th at best, but if they face anyone else they would make finals. that doesnt seem like a good format to me.
NGL it's a bit sad we'll probably never see double elim during knockouts and it's a real shame. Last year was a 3-0 without a single sweat for T1 while they sweated way more during semis vs JDG where they needed a miracle play from Faker to pull back the victory for T1.

10 years ago I would have been excited about this. Now I struggle to be bothered at all. I mean we all know it's just gonna be the LCK and LPL battleing it out. I am very sad for Latin America and Brazil, they killed their leagues so that the American league can survive after the failure that was the LCS. It makes teams do their best or go home. Double elimination it doesn't even give a 2nd chance to the team that made it from the upper bracket and it can allow to the other strongest team in the tournament to practice on the meta, so unless there's a team skill difference, a team from the lower bracket will gain an advantage for the Grand Final in League. Swiss Stage is high stakes, single elimination, too, Swiss Stage and every match mattering it just made the quality of matches and competition better, only problem it was some team could qualify because of a lucky draft, as it was the case of NRG when they drafted G2.

@@bobmorhane6745 Never gonna happen. You'd have to hold a Worlds Finals, only to say "Well, if the lower bracket team wins it, we're gonna have another Finals in a few days". Logistically and climactically absolutely impossible, unless you have the teams play a best of 10 right then and there.

Really great adjustment for swiss stage.. if teams already faced before and ended on the same bracket again, they will not be able to fight again..
i still dont like final bracket single elimination format because you can place significantly lower in the standings by getting unlucky. for example lets say that g2 would win against weibo but lose against blg, if g2 starts against weibo they make it to semifinals, but if they get matched against blg they fall in quarters. and some other team could place semifinals even if they were worse than g2. this is just a hypothetical but a team can hypothetically finish either 3rd or 7th based on luck alone who their first opponent happens to be in quarterfinals. i hope that makes sense. unless theres a separate loser bracket to get the teams in order but where they cant get 1st place anymore. then the format is fine i think.
edit: lets say that blg would be the best team and second best team would be hle for example, if hle matches into blg in quarterfinals they end up like 5th at best, but if they face anyone else they would make finals. that doesnt seem like a good format to me.

NGL it's a bit sad we'll probably never see double elim during knockouts and it's a real shame. Last year was a 3-0 without a single sweat for T1 while they sweated way more during semis vs JDG where they needed a miracle play from Faker to pull back the victory for T1.
Because double elim just ruins the hype. Losers shouldn't get another chance.

10 years ago I would have been excited about this. Now I struggle to be bothered at all. I mean we all know it's just gonna be the LCK and LPL battleing it out. The only question is if all western teams get clapped in swiss already or if a team manages to get clapped in quarter finals... idk I just don't see us even getting close ever again at this point.
NA made it out of swiss so and EU generally does as well. I don't know why this is a question.

I am very sad for Latin America and Brazil, they killed their leagues so that the American league can survive after the failure that was the LCS. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for organizations to work hard for years creating a community only for Riot to destroy it and loot the remains to glue whats left to the LCS corpse. The saddest thing is that the players who manage to pass will have to leave everything to go to a foreign community with a foreign language, in a place strange to them.

It makes teams do their best or go home. Double elimination it doesn't even give a 2nd chance to the team that made it from the upper bracket and it can allow to the other strongest team in the tournament to practice on the meta, so unless there's a team skill difference, a team from the lower bracket will gain an advantage for the Grand Final in League.
Swiss Stage is high stakes, single elimination, too, Swiss Stage and every match mattering it just made the quality of matches and competition better, only problem it was some team could qualify because of a lucky draft, as it was the case of NRG when they drafted G2.
