Dear Robin and Jesper, this kind of song is called as Ghazal. Ghazal is more like reading poetry steadily. For ghazal to be read the poetry must be deep. While sayonee is a mystical song but not really a Qawwali. Qawwali is some thing different. Here is the definition from google: In Middle Eastern and Indian literature and music a lyric poem called as Ghazal is read with a fixed number of verses and a repeated rhyme, typically on the theme of love, and normally set to music. While a Qawwali is style of Sufi devotional music marked by rhythmic improvisatory repetition of a short phrase, intended to rouse participants to a state of mystical ecstasy.
The fact that you guys take time out of your day to listen to songs in a language from a culture that you might not fully grasp yet, is still truly heart warming ❤️
it's a sad ghazal not qawalli that's why it doesn't have that upbeat music and it is about the pain of the loss of one's love anyways nice honest reaction as always
Thanks guys for the reaction. This song is actually a ghazal in which the guy is yearning for his love so much, that he would even be fine with her coming back just so she can break his heart again. Because at least he got to see her again.
This music Genre is called GHAZAL its a romantic poetry and its meant to be sung slowly and soothingly. Its Urdu classical music. Its even harder for general Pakistani youth. Its an old age favorites. The love indicated in this type of music GHAZAL can be your lover or it can be God.
specially when it comes to 70 to 90 the era was marvelous... jab tere shehr se guzrta hon... ajnabi shehr ke ajnabi raste... khuda kre ke muhabat ma wo mqaam aye... and more than many more.... indeed its really difficult to understand for those who ove honey singh and other kinds of DHAI RUPAY waale songs... smooth,flow...i mean no resistance and viscosity and u just flow on the way of peace and love.... shukriya

Its lyrics are about a ditched lover making plea to his beloved to return, even if to just be mad at him or even desert him again...but to come back to him.
It is in our culture to love someone deeply and when that one goes away (breaks up) for any kind of reason, we pay our affection through poetry genre called "Ghazal". This song is a Ghazal attributed towards requesting the beloved to come back somehow even if you are angry with me. Qawwali is a totally different genre from Ghazal.
Robin your smile is very cute you are looking very innocent and jesper your eyes are OMG damn beautiful seriously you both are very nyc dude stay happy 👍🏻❤️ love from pakistan
Ali sethi takes this song to a whole new level through fusion.. keeping the nostalgia intact, making it more relevant for the passionate young music lover.
In This Video Singer named as " ALI SETHI ". He is Graduated from Harvard University USA. And His Mother and Father graduated from Harvard University as well. They all are brilliant and talented. AWESOME !!!
Thanks for picking this Gazal for reacting too. Very candid and humble commentary. Most Indians do not get it either! I am all sold out for this kind of music. Love it. You guys rock!
This is a ghazal genre and it is not meant to be much of a musical thing but it is to be listened in a quite place and people listen this type of music to get rid of the noise from all day long which have adverse affects on our mental health.Mostly people listen ghazals when they are about to sleep,See that is why you both were confused :D.Qawwali is different from ghazals these are two separate things. Search "ghazal" wikipedia for more information.
He was speaking from the perspective of a lover. "Ghazal" is a form of poetry widely embraced in South Asia and this is a rendition of the famous ghazal by one of Pakistan's most celebrated poets, Faiz Ahmed Faiz. It was originally sung by Mehdi Hassan, by far the most beloved ghazal singer in all of South Asia. Through the ghazal the poet is pleading with his lover to return to him despite all that has gone wrong between them. He says, "...return if onl to abandon me again;" "...return if only to silence the wagging tongues..." "...return if only to hurt me again..." So, its not a prayer, it's more of a lover's desperate plea to convince his beloved to return.
A ghazal is just a poem with stricter rules for rhyming. The recurring theme in this form of poetry is the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain (from wikipedia). Poets used to kinda sing their fresh ghazals when sharing with an audience. Ghazal singing caught on from there. The essence of these renditions is of course the lyrics.
Its not actually Qawwali its Ghazal. The ghazal (Arabic/Persian/Urdu: غزل) is a poetic form with rhyming couplets and a refrain, each line sharing the same meter. A ghazal may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain. Qawwali (Nastaʿlīq: قوّالی) is a form of Sufi devotional music. When you talk sufism actually. Whilst Song is justa small poem talking about love fun or some other events with no similar or rhyming words at the end.
The words of the song are designed so beautifully and that is the main beauty of the song .So it is absolutely understandable for you to not feel the same way by reading a mere translation of those carefully chosen lyrics of the song :)
Many people have come and gone, approx all the singers have tried their best for this song, you can search 'em.. although there are many USTADs, and they can fetch you to paradise within a sec, they also have tried, but but but.. yet USTAD MEHDI HASSAN Ji Saheb ❤️ Even the lyricist Ahmed Faraz Saheb himself uttered about Ustad Ji, the emotions and feelings to justify the song, the emotions that the lyricist had felt while creating amazing gazal 'Ranjish Hi Sahi'.. Were felt while Ustad Mehdi Hassan saheb sang. No one has that ability to justify this gazal better than him, This gazal is the real elaboration for love and Ustad Mehdi ji was the true explanation of it, That phenomenal singing style, pouring of satisfaction and pot of honey made of love, every single word from Ustad Mehdi ji's tongue, like the love is alive and.. it catches you in a loop where you just smile and start to love everything, evn non living things 😊 hehe.. that's Ustad Mehdi Hassan Saheb ❤️🐿️🐫🐘🙂🙏
I know i am a bit late but 1st of all you 2 r looking dashing..😘😘😘 u guys hardly know what a gazal is.. But come on guys its classical and is all about poetry. In this gazal a person is kind of provoking the lover just to come to her/him even for this and that. Well this gazal is my favorite.. And really liked your genuine reaction. Love from Pakistan..😍😍😍
It's not a prayer, it's a ghazal by one of the greatest ghazal singers of all time. At the core of it, it means "If anguish is my fate, so be it, but come back to me, even if it's just to make my heart ache again." The pain of being away from you is too great, come back to me even if it's only to cause me more pain. Hope that gives you guys a lot of context :) Also, this isnt a Qawali, Allahu Akbar would be a good example of a song that's both prayer and a Qawali. Ranjish is a sad, romantic ballad of sorts. Keep doing these videos, I love watching them!
Our music is more about the meaning.. Like deep thing.. And your's is more about music even if it's not rock! This one was a tribute to a classical old singer.. So it had to be like thatt!!! Haha..
even they cannot sing a song which is older than 10 to 15 years but just can watch on a piece of PAPER and they have no such kinds of deeper lyrics but just music and NOISE... in fact produce many times seductress feelings on the name of music rather than this kind of deep and majestic emotions for love which is matchless Holy and pure in fact not resistible too haha shukriya
You guys don't understand the fact that this song the favourite song of CS this season for many of us. Its so sad that you guys can't really understand this genre. This performance takes me somewhere else.
i am so happy that our language is urdu ... THANK GOD ... perfect language ... it is such a blessing for us ...if u understand urdu you can understand every language of the world bcz it has the words from all the languages ... ALI SETHI voice
Yes, it is a form of poetry which is dedicated to the beloved called "ghazal". Please react to Ronay Na Diya from Coke Studio season 10. It has got an English part as well.
Its like Bob dylan kind of music for Sub continent. It ll have a similar rthym throught the song( same as Dylan). What matters in Ghazal is Lyrics and calmness.. Cheers. ❤
this isn't a prayer . it'S a song and the genre is called ghazal. the singer here is longing and asking the beloved to come back even if it is just for a tease.

what i get from your videos is that you think most of the coke studio is about qawwalis but it's only some of the tracks that are actually qawwalis, most of them are songs, some of them are folk songs, like baazi, and this one was a ghazal. i think you should react to JULIE, it's by Ali Zafar, more towards Rockstar than towards the rest. i like your work very much and i think you should keep on doing what you're doing. :)
I still don't understand that who are those stupids ho recomend such type of songs to RnJ knowing there taste. So plz suggest wisely they can't understand our language, They can only feel our music and for that they need some upbeat songs. And Love you. RnJ !!

Hey bros. looking dapper, i like your react videos and you always say how you feel about the stuff that you are reacting to whatever you feel and i appreciate that honesty. From your reaction to the song baazi, i have to say firstly i agree with your Aima Baig comment ;) Secondly not every Pakistani song is a qawwali, for instance baazi is a rendition of a folk song its generally accompanied by languages from the area where that music style belongs but its hard to differentiate for someone who doesnt know the languages where as this one is called a ghazal. A ghazal is all about vocals and the poetry is the center of it, music is just a support in the background, a qawwali is where you have backup singers clapping and repeating the lines that the lead singer sings e.g. Rang by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Amjad Sabri. I would suggest to listen to Allahu akbar again with lyrics (not for a reaction just to understand the meaning) as when you reacted to it there were no lyrics on that song which is a nusheed or humd (song praising God kinda like a hymn). Finally, not many Pakistanis like sayyoni rendition done in this season as the main vocalist that brought real energy to that song Ali Azmat didnt sing it here and believe me it took away the soul of that song, as the awesome ustad rahat fateh ali khan couldnt take it to that level. I have so much more to say but i will control myself for the next comment.
please react to an old coke studio song called "Saari Raat by Noori" it is still now one of the best songs of coke studio...you can see some powerful vocals in that...

So, this song was not a qawwali and Im guessing that many people might have commented this lol
This was a ghazal (prounounced GH-uh-zul kind of rhymes with trouble). Ghazals are kind of like ballads. This song was about a relationship that was falling apart. Ranjish means being upset, disappointed or angry. It pretty much says that Regardless of you being upset, regardless of the rifts between our relationship, please come back even if to show your disappointment and upset-ness to me. Come back even if to hurt me, even if to just leave again but just come back. Come back even if not in the same way as a lover. Come back and talk even as if just a distant acquaintance but just come back.

Hey bros. looking dapper, i like your react videos and you always say how you feel about the stuff that you are reacting to whatever you feel and i appreciate that honesty. From your reaction to the song baazi, i have to say firstly i agree with your Aima Baig comment ;)
Secondly not every Pakistani song is a qawwali, for instance baazi is a rendition of a folk song its generally accompanied by languages from the area where that music style belongs but its hard to differentiate for someone who doesnt know the languages where as this one is called a ghazal.
