I was a working professional like Kiran and I am happy for him. I appeared for the exam once and reached the interview stage in my first attempt. I was quite confident I could make it through the personality test, but it didn't quite work out for me. But funny enough rather than trying again, I decided against trying, because I realised I would never enjoy the profession and I would need to sacrifice a happy life just to be tossed around by politicians. I know that a lot of people want to be civil servants for their own reasons, but most of them don't even think if they will enjoy the job and effectively contribute to the nation and the people. Most people think the only way to contribute to the nation is by joining the army or by taking up a government job. If you are good at something and you do your job well, you are effectively contributing to the human race. It feels nice to be interviewed and appreciated for your success in an examination as difficult and competitive as the UPSC exam, but it is even more important to understand what makes you happy life. Life just begins after the exam, the real struggle starts only after you become a civil servant. I am honestly glad I decided not to try again. I made my parents a bit sad for a couple of months with my decision to not try again, but today at the age of 36 I am so glad I didn't make it into the UPSC. I get to spend so much time with my kids, wife and parents, I earn more money than I ever thought I would and although I am not part of any government machinery, I contribute to the scientific world through my job. I
To all aspirants, please think about your priorities, there is so much you can do for the people around you even without joining the services. Do what will make you happy for the rest of your life, not just for a few months, only for you to regret all the struggles you went through to achieve what you thought was a "dream".

I think most of these ppl who are trying fr this exam is drawing inspiration from the lucrative powers and the respect from the society, which will come handy with clearing the exam rather than serving the society or anything of that sort. For many its a single shot to the top of our social hierarchy. Everybody say that they wanna serve the society but Its hard to blv that ppl are spending years to crack this exam just to 'serve' the society.

you put through your point of view really well. i too got disillusioned by services.....im not against anyone who are passionate and trying for it,,,...its that i realized i wont like the life the services had to offer....best wishes to everyone working hard for it

Out of all the toppers' interviews that I have seen from Fortune, this one touched me most. Especially bcoz of the way in which Anton sir asked those questions and the topper putting his struggles into words in such a calm temperament...No wonder he became the interview topper...Thanku so much for this one...Found very helpful...
