This may not be best, but for sure this is very well balanced - stills, video, price ( catches eyes of both pros and enthusiasts )… Kudos to Nikon…worth the wait.
@@ThanhNguyen-sk6uc as much as it hurts as a Nikon shooter, but their is truth in what you said. but its been like this for years , Nikon gave wakeup calls to Canon Sony with D3 & D850. Sony shook everyone with A1/A9ii. Canon was struggling for a year or 2 and then R5 just changed everything for them Mirrorless. Now with Nikon Z9 some real good improvements like 8k60p (all internal), Sensor Sheild, Sensor Lock. multi-profile animal eye tracking, i mean it tracks all animals..seen a video by Ricci fish, bear, bird etc etc. So yeah Great Times
@@lifewithoutborders1348 Well we still need to wait until we start saying 8k60p, don't we? I still shoot video in 1080 so it's the stills performance that has me excited anyway.
The Nikon Z series cameras are all great. I have the Z6II and it is so smooth combined with the Z series lenses. I love it all, just the best pictures.
I just got mine a couple of weeks ago! Best purchase I’ve made in photography, thus far. And every firmware update makes the camera better and better. After seeing what the Z9 can do, I’m excited for the Z6/Z7III as quite a few features will likely trickle down in 2-3 years, namely the Expeed 7 processor.
I've watched a lot of reviews on the Z9, since 28/10; but your review told me most of the things I really wanted to know- without getting bogged down in technical detail. Thanks!
Thank you for your video! Did you or any of your colleagues get to use the Z9 with strobes or flashes? How does the Z9 perform in varying light? What CF Express cards do you recommend to avoid buffering?
When it comes to using flash, seek out Nikon videos involving Jonathan Smith, including the discussion. From what I’ve seen in multiple videos, it has no issues keeping up and flash isn’t a problem. As for varying light, the metering system seems to keep up well, just leaving it in matrix. For CF Express cards, I believe the minimum sustained write speed has to be 1,400 MBps, or higher, for the buffer to remain as clear as possible. Hope this helps!
there hasnt been any production models just yet, so theres no raw support both in capture one or lightroom. but I bet it wont be far off from the Z7-series sensor performance
Would love to have you guys test it out with 3rd party F mount lenses (Tamron 85 1.8 vc, Sigma 50 1.4).... need to know if it is worth keeping 3rd party glass or if you just have to start fresh. Keeping my Nikon 70-200 f4 though. Such a good lens.
Using the Z6II, as any indication, YES, get as much Z glass as you can. Namely, the 85mm f/1.8S. I had the F mount equivalent and the sharpness, corner to corner, is just unmatched on the Z glass. The 50mm f/1.2S is a hard sell because of the cost. The 70-200mm f/2.8S is also pricey but you’ll have to make the choice if the greater iris is worth swapping out for F mount f/4.
This looks like it's time to focus on just one system. I still shoot video on my panny and stills on my z6ii and fast stills on my Nikon dslr. This should replace everything. Please focus on more pro glass and test this camera with third party lenses.
The back screen needs to be a flip out, not just angle out, so that the added feature opens up the camera to vlogging. Good to see my favorite brand since ‘76 is catching up to the industry with this system.
Wayne ThePoet, no shade to you, but why buy a $5500 pro camera for vlogging? There are so many less expensive alternatives that have the flippy screen; one could buy multiple suitable flippy-screen cameras for the price of this..
@@raynaudier8622 No, I get it. I thought about that awhile before posting. But I see it as - why not? Maybe someone in the field would want to film themselves in the location they were shooting. Even if it’s just for family or reference… and not carry a second camera, or monitor for the process. This is a high end video camera, and not having a full flip-out screen is a ‘con’ on the lists of most reviewers of hybrid systems. I guess it’s just another way to appeal to a bigger pool of potential buyers. Why not?
@@tallaganda83 Again, this is an 8k video beast from Nikon! How much easier to grab a quick on-camera interview, or b-roll with a fully articulated screen to see what’s going on. Vlogging probably wasn’t my best first choice of uses. 🙂 (What is the weight, by the way?)
can you please let us know - how many Lossless/ uncompressed RAW images the buffer takes? If this is just 40 frames as indicated in the DP review, that means it is not a camera for action and wildlife is all for me and this is not what we were waiting for. Nikon loses 50% of business here.
Nikon is back in the game with a serious contender..!!!
I Hope só!
Honestly the best camera out now for a video and photography. Wow, Nikon this is a slam dunk!

This is Nikon saying "We were tired of people saying we're going out of business. This is proof we are serious contenders... Like we've always been."
Agreed. I never cosigned with that kinda nonsense..
Be thankful for canon and Sony waking them up and actually coming out with a beast.

Rod Mar is the best!!! What a monster photographer to have on the show!
This is the best mirrorless camera out right now by far.
Awesome I hope those AF features gets trickled down to our Z6ii and 7ii bodies too :)
So how did you deal with the blackouts with DSLRs.
Thanks Seth! Time to start saving!
That is an amazing camera. Seth, I figured you would get your hands on it. I would love to hear your review too.
The NIKON Z9 has changed technology and given the hope we want.👍👍 @/nikonz9 👍 @/z9 👍👍
Freaking awesome, I hope those AF features gets trickled down to the Z6ii and 7ii
Z 6III
It will trickle down once the lower models get the Expeed 7 processor.
I need the 3D tracking mode on my Z6 II ASAP. It’s exactly what I’ve been calling out for.
For the better AF tracking camera needs to have expeed7 sensor. It is a hardware thing not something what can be done by firmware update.
It definitely won’t
6:30 , if it detects more than 1 eye can you tell which eye to focus on ?
as long as the box has a triangle-arrow beside it, it means already detects more than 1 eye, press the left/right d-pad to move to other detected eyes
Congrats Nikon, you by far have outdone all mirrorless camera systems. The rest of them have to catch up. I would have paid double for the Nikon Z9.
Amazing review💯

Great Focus speed, seems to be amazing including new two eye focus system. Dream camera for still and video
Pre-ordered instantly! I want this yesterday! (Looks like you got your wish, Seth, with the release of the new Z-mount 24-120!) Well done, Nikon! :)

All of them I've watched all of them
Is there back button focus availability in the vertical orientation?
Yes. AF-ON button and joystick as well.
Is the 100-400 weather sealed?
It definitely would be all S lenses are
Can't help but assume I should wait for the inevitable Z9ii.
Still no information on how this camera do with flash or speedlight.
I am not able to find dynamic range of Z9 anywhere. Is it overlooked or is it that bad that it is not published?

At least you should've shot Division 1 men college tennis. They are closer to the pro level.
Agreed, very irritating cringing at the strokes, when I want to concentrate on the camera!

It depends which cf card u used
Don’t tell me what it can do! Tell me how it beats the competition! What does it do better? I am a Nikon shooter and I am not impressed yet!
