All have their benefits but here's a pretty summed up explanation. Shotgun for lots of cqb and weapon swap plays. SMG if team is dying too quickly and you need to pick more gunfights than usual, pistol for when you aren't needing to fight as often and can use the small speed boost to rotate faster.
