XR71 Dulles

  • The last landing of the SR71 that is on display at the NASM at Dulles: Mar 6, 1990. This was before there were mid-field terminals and we parked out planes in the center of the airport.
    The SR71 call sign is "Dutch 01". We hear the tower talk to him but do not hear his reply since he is on a military UHF radio channel.
    To get the full effect. of the low pass, connect your PC to a 1000 watt amp and theater style speakers and then sit a few feet in front of them. ;)

    Amazing plane. My next door neighbor was working in France on the SR-71. I believe he was an inspector. Eventually he retired to Palmdale.

    Was there,on top off the att bld next to airport. Boy when that thing came over what a site! She's at the air and space museum on RT 28 by the airport go see her!
