No, no . Dowry , caste , racism and apartheid are Indian (hindu) concepts. In my village , caste, dowry, racism and apartheid are still practiced. There are no British here just Indians. The British had nothing to do with dowry , caste, racism or apartheid. In UK one can live anywhere , no caste and racism is a criminal offence unlike in our India.

I've rejected a match 2weeks before as they demanded dowry. The guy was pin drop silence when the whole dowry discussion was happening. This was the first red flag for me. After one week his family called and asked for more money. My father said, he doesn't have it. Father asked the guy why are you asking after all the discussion was over. and the guy said that their family doesn't have much money for the marriage and he supported his family for asking more money.
Me and family was scared that before marriage they're demanding money won't they ask after the marriage??
So me and my family called off this match.

Now a day's the groom family required a girl with higher education, good family ground, Job holder with high salary, Maid who can do cooking, house chores and take care of in-laws and dowry with all the packages then why can't bride family except the good salary from the groom. Change should come from both sides not only from side, If a boy expecting his wife have to takecare of his parents and siblings then he have to takecare of her parents, they have share there works, chores and responsibilities, and have to understand each other should respect each opinions and interests. And majorly parents stop checking these stupid horoscopes for your son's instead of that first of check if the bride and groom have compatibility or liked each other or have understanding for each other.

Great stand for the girl and her father. This mother wanted to do a business transaction, not marriage - they don't respect the girl and her father as they just want money. If they agreed to it then the demands will keep on coming even after marriage and that may result in the girl getting abused and tortured. BTW, I am a man and have Engineering and MBA degrees. I live in Canada and make $350K per year - this is above Rs.2.2 CR. In my marriage, we gave the clothes to the girl and we didn't take a dime from her family. I make enough for my family and it will be an insult for me to ask for dowry.

@Diganta Dowry imposes injustice on women. Men have a choice to walk out if the bride side demands govt job. But dowry is a well established system practiced throughout India with exceptions in few places. Even a well qualified women is asked to pay dowry for marriage regardless of her capabilities. There is a difference between "choice" and "demand giving rise to injustice". You cannot compare bride side demand of govt employee with dowry demanded by groom side. It is just like a man demanding Homemaker or a working women as his spouse. At times man expect a women to leave her job and do household chores. Then this is not a crime, it is his choice to go for a homemaker or a working Profesional wife.
Though whether the demand is dowry from groom's side or govt job from bride's side both pollutes the essence of marriage and makes it a mere business deal. That's disappointing !

@@dhananjayjadhav7208 India has the least divorce rates in the world. Alimony is not one sided dude. A husband can also claim it . But dowry deaths are reality in India. It is the cause of female infanticide and foeticide in India. Women life has no value in family and considered as liability of the family. Alimony is still not a major issue in India but dowry is. Many women in my state Kerala now don't prefer to get married because of the constant dowry death cases. They prefer to build a career first .

First of all it is not dowry it is a fees paid to groom by bride for fulfilling her needs. He deserves that fees because after all he had put a lot of efforts in getting the govt job. And that girl in free without doing any effort would get access to all the assets which primarily belongs to groom and even the salary of husband who does govt job. Think of the effort he had put for getting govt job. He deserves that fees which you called dowry. If she dont want to give money she can marry a person whose income is 20k or 25k. Why was she approaching the guy who is beyond her and her's family level. Because marriage should be done between the same level. And after all it is a one time fees to keep their daughter happy.

One of my cousin sister's in laws were asking for dowry, they were in a long term relationship, still the guy didn't say anything against his family due to their pressure, her in laws used to say that they want to maintain their standard infront of their family members, when my sister came to know about dowry she denied for marriage and then after 5 months that guy came to her apologized and then they got married in court, now they have loving children

My friend's neighbour is a widow.She has 4 daughters.She married them but gave dowry to the in laws.It's wrong but this only happens in a society where everyone is greedy of dowry.She could have filed a complaint against the in laws.We have to stand up for dowry together.
Some people write a long essay for competitive exams and then after getting government job they ask for dowry.
I told my boyfriend of 4 years to go hang himself as he asked for dowry with his parents,.. i live and breathe for my mom n dad... Marriage is not necessary.. career and education is important... If not today guys will show their evil colours and never ever will in laws accept u as their daughter.. so don't yearn for marriage... It's a glorified trap for women..

I am ready for the impending storm that's about to ensue. So I'll just leave my opinion here. Asking for dowry , i mean insisting that i cant marry until you give me 'x' sum of money is indeed bad. Equally bad is the attitude of bride's side during arranged marriages. They put forth so many fricking parameters that the most important of them all, the ability to stay loyal and be a loving partner for your kid takes a backseat. Its near impossible to get a good alliance unless you land a 6 figure salary or have a government job. Most parents even insist on seeing the salary slip or even ITR of the prospective grooms. But imagine a groom asking the same to the bride or her parents? That's the society we live in. For every issue you raise there is an equally or even more morally grave counter issue on the other side. Maybe when both parties give importance to love and respect than seeing marriage as a business, the situation will eventually change. Peace out~
I totally agree with your point. Actually the problem lies in the society in general. The norms set by the society are so hollow, the consequences of which are manifold. The institution of marriage especially arrange marriage is totally flawed. It is in this set up the waves of demand, expectations etc etc arises. Both the families think this set up as market where only buy sell of groom and brides happen according to the family standards.
To be honest today's girl & boy both are mature and sensible enough to find good partners. But both girl's & boy's side means their family spoil the essence of marriage by their demands.
Now a day's the groom family required a girl with higher education, good family ground, Job holder with high salary, Maid who can do cooking, house chores and take care of in-laws and dowry with all the packages then why can't bride family except the good salary from the groom. Change should come from both sides not only from side, If a boy expecting his wife have to takecare of his parents and siblings then he have to takecare of her parents, they have share there works, chores and responsibilities, and have to understand each other should respect each opinions and interests.
To be honest ...if girl's parent looking for stable partner for her then I don't think it's wrong....they are going to give their dauthef to someone else(totally stranger) n on what basis they'll do so?? In arrange marriage...if father of girl looking or asking for stable person...with high salary...then at the same time form boy side ...they ask for beauty...they ask qualities....they ask or judge on basis of the natural things which can't be chnge or not even in control of human....and one more thing now a days..they also want gurl with all those qualities and higher education...am I right or not???

Yes this happens very common these days . I too have seen many cases as such . Divorce for small reasons n huge alimony demands from the girls . Even her parents don't agree with it but girls are stubborn enough so parents can't say anything but just keep quiet .

Car in the form of Dowry, is what I get to see in my street. On the left of my house is a grey car worth 11-12 Lakhs and my right side is a White Car worth 8-9 Lakhs. One of them actually demanded the girl's house for a car and they are happy driving it🤭🤭🤭
