    Love the transparency about your frustration during story time! Currently dealing with that. It makes you feel like you’re “wasting your time” when you feel like they aren’t listening, based on your idea of what story time should look like! Thanks for sharing ❤️

    I am so glad to have found your channel. Thank you for sharing of yourself and sweet kiddos. Your videos are so helpful!!! My kids love TV and they learn a lot through the quality programming. I love what you said about using apps. We are in our 2nd year. I have twin 6 and singleton 4, all girls. Thank you for your smile!

    Ahh i love your honesty!! I LOVE reading... and want to read to my kids constantly! But, it's not as dreamy in reality is it?! My one year old rips the pages from the books as I read, and the 4 year old runs off to do flips off the couch.
    Nevertheless, I persist.

    • @TheFallCoFamily
      @TheFallCoFamily  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      aweeee.... thank you so much Megan :) it really isn't as dreamy as we would like it to be. yes to persisting! I'm sure you are doing an amazing job!!! because lets be honest, if they aren't doing flips off of the couch you wouldn't be doing it right LOL

      girllll, i have no time or energy for games. being a mom has been the most difficult thing that i have done in my life. its not very easy for me to give "tips" or "advice" because half of the time i have no idea how these kids are surviving LOLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!

    Omg!!! I am in tears. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am feeling frustrated specially because I have a baby while trying to homeschool my 6 year old. Thank you for the encouragement.

    • @TheFallCoFamily
      @TheFallCoFamily  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AWWWWWW..... I know that feeling mama! the best thing I have learned to do is get comfortable with that frustrated feeling. I know that seems strange but once I stopped fighting the frustrated feeling the more it didn't phase me and allowed me to move past it more quickly (hope that makes sense) you got this. Actually... he/she has got this... our babies minds are so much more capable of learning and growing naturally far more than we give them credit for.

    ♥️♥️♥️ as a mom of a very energetic 4, nearly 5 year old, the reading to him thing has been a struggle...... And your "you can read to them while they play" seems like the best advice I've heard EVER. 🤣 Can't believe I've never thought of that.

    • @TheFallCoFamily
      @TheFallCoFamily  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh yay!!!!!! I couldn't have been any more honest in that video and now several years later they are stacking up books they read and creating wish lists of all the books they'd like for their birthdays LOL. we still read while they play TO THIS DAY!!! have you tried it? has it worked?

    • @christina7088
      @christina7088 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheFallCoFamily I'm working on reading to them during breakfast. My kids love books. My dear aunt made a comment once while we were in the book section of a local thrift store about how me and two kiddos were entranced in the books..... But sheesh his little body is rarely still. 😂😂😂

    I totally feel you!!!! I have a girl and 2 boys and the boys are everywhere! I had to learn to chill and just read to them while they play. Now they pick up books to read and my 4 year old is now showing an interest in reading and writing instead of pretending to.

    My girls started out with Leapfrog and Preschool Prep my now 5 year old totally taught herself how to read. I just exposed her to the material. She has been reading since she was 2. I guided my other girls through their reading, I think that's because I thought things had to be done "this" way. They are not homeschooled but I supplement at home. TFS!!!

    • @TheFallCoFamily
      @TheFallCoFamily  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is wonderful! supplementing at home is a version of homeschooling as far as I'm concerned :) :) thanks for watching and taking the time to share what has worked for you as well.

    My kids have been all over the place with reading. My son was taught at a private Classical School. My daughter taught herself. And right now, I am using Teach Your Child to Read because my 7 year old has to be taught directly. How your children have learned to read would not have worked for him, sadly, but it would/has/will work with our three year old. They are all SO different!! :)

    • @TheFallCoFamily
      @TheFallCoFamily  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they are!!!! actually, i was thinking that it wouldn't work with my youngest as well. she seems to be very different and require more instruction but i am giving it some time to see if that will change. so nice to be able to customize to fit their needs though right? i have to constantly remind myself that that is one of the number one benefits of homeschooling so i might as well use it. :)

      I spent so much money, time and frustration with my now 10 year old. We did Leapfrog stuff, I swear we own every product, game, movie from them. I have a stack of over 100 of the level 1 readers from different places. She never even got close to reading. Then one night at age 8 she sat with my husband for about an hour and he was trying to figure out why and he told her one little tid bit and shes been reading since. he never did figure out what he said that clicked. She isnt the strongest reader but shes getting there.

    I’m so thankful you shared your experience about the beginning. I have felt so much guilt for not reading to my kids when they were tiny. My now 5 and 3 year old don’t really listen when I read and my 5 year old refuses to try to sound out words. I’m so frustrated and feel so far behind since my oldest will 6 soon and doesn’t read.

    I didn't really read to my kids when they were very young either. I used to beat myself up about it all the time, but they both love reading together now. It's good to see I wasn't alone when it came to that.

    Mu youngest 2 learned their letters and phonics from Hooked on Phonics. My youngest especially loves the alphabet song that HOP uses. All of 3 (9,4,2) sing that version plus all the songs that go for each letter.
    My oldest learned from a mix of HOP and daycare/school. I think that the way they taught her plus my own ignorance in how to teach had my OD suffer and be more resistant to learning/advancing in reading.
    These last 2 though I have been more understanding in how to allow the child to learn at their pace and guide them along to reading.

    • @TheFallCoFamily
      @TheFallCoFamily  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      its such a balance right?! just slightly different paths to the same destination. i think i may have a few of the free apps from hop that the kids enjoyed. they just didn't grab on as much as the others but i heard it was a great program. thank you so much for watching and sharing a bit of your journey with me.

    Great video! I just spoke in the last live chat, how I never taught my kids how to read. I can relate. It sounds weird to tell people this. Yes, if you foster the environment, and equip the children, they will learn on their own. I did however read to them in utero.

    I did the same thing, my son learned the same way. I got all the educational apps and put it on the iPad. I got a b c Mouse and put it on the computer. I just let him played whenever he felt like playing. He learned on his own. but I also used to read books to him.

      Faith & Love Academy {Our Homeschool Journey} Sure 😜 they have wonderful nature documentaries, the story of Anne Frank, the story of Henry "Box" Brown, and Garret Morgan, the Magic School bus, Sid The science Kid, Zoo Clues and Bill Nye the Science Guy. But I was a little disappointed bc just after you mentioned Leapfrog it seamed like Netflix took off more than half of the episodes 😪 lol 😂

    I sometimes get Mom guilt for letting my 4 y/o have screen time 😬
    He watches cartoons in French and Tagalog.
    I have a very antsy little boy,can’t sit still!! I got discouraged,so I stopped trying to read to him and doing letters.
    This Fall we start homeschooling through Classical Conversations.
    Please pray for us!!🤣
    I appreciate your candidness!
    Please keep on sharing y’alls homeschool journey.
    Thanks for the inspiration!
    Blessings!

    I love watching your video's! Thank you so much for sharing with us homeschool mom's :-) It's my first official year, and I definitely need all the help and advise I can get, hahaha. Thank you for sharing all of the helpful apps too! We are a family that loves the iPad and my daughter especially loves "games" (learning games) it makes it fun for her and I believe it really helps. I know some parents do not like or allow their kids to use the iPad (even for learning) but we do. Of course, it's a balance and we don't just let them have it whenever they want, but we definitely use it. Sometimes I even feel almost embarrassed to admit that they are on it (the mom/parent shamming and poo poo-ing game is strong sometimes and makes me feel bad). It was refreshing to hear you talk about how helpful they can be, because I feel the same way! This was a GREAT video, thanks again girlie :-)
