I avoid lane splitting if there's an open space next to the driver because there's the possibility of a lane change. You really need at least the front wheels of a car overlapping with the rear wheels of the car next to it so they are not likely to lane change. Ironically, against my preference, I often find myself "lane splitting" through cars with open space beside them because it's illegal in Alabama to lane split. I went to college in CA, by the way.
The GT has a much more planted feel to the front end. Heavier but more responsive to input. The engine is never short of power and when in mountains or twisty roads I leave it 4th gear and do not need to shift nearly as much as the RT. The only area I think the RT is preferable is the maintenance costs as the 18k service is a big hit due to the plugs/valves and labor costs. For me, no difference in lane splitting ability.
Nice video! I also commute on an RT in California freeway traffic. I've found it helps cars see me if I weave a bit as I move through traffic (where its safe). The human eye is naturally attracted to movement, and the weave makes your headlight move around. I've had loud bikes too and the weave makes more people notice me and give me space than loud pipes ever did.
@@ridewitheugenethe problem is both speakers and loud pipes project sound behind you. People behind you already noticed you, but there is no action left to do :o) .
@@ridewitheugene With less than $300 you could take Alameda Sheriff Motorcycle safety course for civilians - well worth the price of a slip-on exhaust. There are plenty of other courses.
I want to know how you mounted the phone there. I assume RAM ball but where did you mount it and want configuration did you find? I'm using a Tackform Wireless charging mount but it blocks the TFT. I'd love to relocate it
It’s also telling that you are riding a “cop bike” minus the lights but that does not make drivers any more alert to you presence… just amazingly oblivious drivers. But I understand. In US everyone has to drive, it’s not aspirational thing, or mastery…
Very nice video. Have a question. Is your bike an RT or RTP? It looks like you have the Police bags on? I was wondering if you have the RT stock bags or not. Seemed to lane split fine to me!
If there is space, you can do it with anything. Try it with narrower lanes, like in a city. 😁 To bad that most out there are demanding space by reving the engine...😒 I own o moto, but also a car. Respect is earned not demanded 😎
What are you babbling about? "Respect is earned." You can't earn someone's respect in the 1 second you'll be driving past them. Respect everyone on the road.
Notice how mindless freeway widening eats up all emergency stopping place on the left shoulder which inner makes drivers more reluctant to move over splitting Motorcycles. How is this even legal to do this type of road engineering?
I notice that often. Not all Teslas, but most seem to be centered in lane without any regard to what's happening around them. There are some good Tesla drivers that move over to let the bike through
i did this all the time with R1200GSA in malaysia. the width of the handle bar is the indicator. handle bar fits, then side panniers no problem.

Exactly *watch the gaps*
I did it for years on my 2009 RT and have been doing it for about 4 years now on m K1600 GT.
How does K bike compare to RT?

Can I just turn on the music really loud in RT to stay safe?
@@ridewitheugene people will definitely stare at you if you do that, but not in a good way. Hah!

I recognize that freeway entrance; we’re neighbors. I’ve smacked mirror to mirror with a car lane splitting on my RT.
Yeah, they're wide. Still getting used to the size of mine

It is an RT, but I've installed Horning City lids on pannier cases. They are narrow and come in black by default.
Thank You! I have a GSA 1250 with no saddle bags and waiting to test ride an RT to see how I like it.
Of course, I split on my Goldwing at times.

If it slows down bikes behind you... it cant' lane split ;-) Which is my experience as well with it.
There is no law that says under 45 and less than 10 mph delta. The law says the CHP may develop educational guidelines, that's it.
Your roads are packed with Tesla’s 😂👍🏻

And where do emergency vehicles supposed to squeeze through?
Welcome to never ending crappy construction in the Bay Area.
people have you notice Teslas cars don't share lanes ?

has to do with auto pilot
No one is obligated to move for you. I ride a Multistrada, I don't need anyone to move over. @@ridewitheugene
And we wonder why there are so many motorcycle accidents. HA. I just leave a little early, take my time and enjoy the ride.
Its not a bike its a ship 🤭
That’s not lane splitting..that’s kamikaze motorcycling
Your bikes too big & you lack the skill to filter safely. When you get done by a harley you know it's time to quit
well come to india hehehehhe ... anyway jokes apart we do lane spliting every time ...lol...
