  • I am not saying my way is the best or the only way to install a intake on a Gen1 SBC. But… It is the way I have installed them with zero leaks.

    Just a cleaning tip. 0000 steel wool and wd-40 works great for cleaning the fuel stains, coolant stains, rtv and oxidation off of the outside of an aluminum intake. Follow up with a wipe of brake clean and she will look brand new!

    Great job, that's exactly how I've always installed intakes and never had one leak or any sealing problems, all about taking the time to do it right the first time!!

    1207 would have worked fine. Gaps on the side are no issue. When you line up everything the floors need to line up on the ports as thats the most important for airflow. Tops of the ports arent near as important. You definitely want the bottoms to be a smooth transition on both parts ;)

      I also use Right Stuff on the water ports. I also use 3M black weather strip adhesive on the intake ports. Reason beings is it is easy to suck the bottom of the intake gaskets on high rpm throttle closures. Like when you cross the finish line. China wall you can use regular silicon or right stuff.

    I have 4 cut to length, all thread, I put them in the outer 4 holes, 2 front and 2 back to help line up the Intake as you seat it on m into place? unscrew those 4 and switch to the 4 bolts. I Always for 30+ years have used the cork, never had a issue, just glue it to the engine wait and hour, put some oil layer on the top of the cork , Install the intake! my freind chanced his tail only to fined out the back side of the intake sealer had blown out. the 3 big Car MFG paid a lot of money on Engineering, so nothing wrong with using Cork.

    Super victor2 and afr 210's race ready PN 1054 with a 1206 gasket match up very very well straight out of the box. The slightest amount of cleaning up on the manifold and gasket has them almost perfect! . I spent about 2 hours on my manifold to clean up the ports about 2 inches in on each port and trimmed the gaskets on the top and bottom of the port on some and they were great. In my experience.....they would of been sweet to bolt on out of the box!!! I maybe cleaned up ".020 thou or 1/2 a millimetre on a few ports to get them to match. That's it!

    Thanks for this video, I am about ready to install my 2975 on a Gen 1 400 CI, very similar to you. This will be my second attempt, 1st attempt on engine stand with a cheap gasket leaked out the back of the intake. My engine is installed so a little harder to work on, but I ordered 1206 and will following your instructions. I hope I get a No Leak result.

    Putting tape on the edges of block and intake and intake help make cleaning up a breeze.
    Pull away the tape and the sealer goes with it.

    I use contact cement in a couple spots to hold my intake gaskets in place and "the right stuff" on the China wall.

    Curious why you wouldn't want to lash your valves before installing the intake? Subbed!!

    • @jjmccloud
      @jjmccloud 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was curious as well, I like to use the pushrods to help set my lash but I also always use hydraulic roller cams so I'm guessing its different using a solid roller, which i have no experience with lol

    What is the smallest hydraulic roller cam do you think i can get away with using this intake? I may reduce its size and head runners to match. TFS super 23* heads. How does it feel to own the best GEN 1 intake ever created?

  • @lewisfoltz6306

    No matter what I do my brand new dart block, brand new AFR 220 heads and brand new AFR intake will not seal. There is oil in my intake runners. Yes, I sealed the rocker stud bolts. Intake appears to fit well but just will not seal. Any ideas?

    Isn’t it suppose to be like 25 foot pounds for those bolts ?? Correct me if I’m wrong

    • @jjmccloud
      @jjmccloud 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      25-30 i believe. If your asking because he didn't do that in the video its because he was gonna come back later and do a final torque i believe he said

    My intake seems to sit high on my engine because the gap between the block and the intake is big ! The ports match up ok but still ! And I had a few intakes on it they all did the same thing ! I would literally shut the lights off so it was pitch black and shine a light to see if I missed anything…I was thinking it was the heads
    I think I am gonna roll with a set of brodix IK200 heads next unless I can get a decent deal on victor jr or Afr
    But I totally agree on RTV around the water ports ! I have always done that myself without any issues 👍🏻
    Back in the 80’s before printo gaskets I think I used mr Gasket and I used high/tack it held the gaskets beautifully it could get messy lol
    So you just use a hobby knife to trime your gaskets as needed ?

    • @TPVPRO
      @TPVPRO  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used my Dremel, I suck big time with a hobby knife.

    Need your advice...
    I have a 10.5:1 SBC 383.
    I want a high rpm top end and solid cam combo on pump gas.
    What would recommend ?
    Thanks !

    That gap wouldn't hurt anything. Line the port floor up, Eric Weingartner has a video that proves that.
