@@donanderson3653 I think he's talking about how the "localization" team removed gendered language, such as referring to the player by what gender they chose, whereas in English you get referred to by gender neutral terms such as "they, child, or sibling". No other languages had any such changes, just English. It's clear the "localizers" were pushing their personal beliefs into the game rather than doing their job.
@@goatslayer3160 I don't know the original Japanese script offhand, but I just have difficulty believing that it involved very much in the way of mentioning the main character's gender. Japanese *technically* has words for "he" or "she" ("kare" and "kanojo", respectively), but they're very rarely used as pronouns. Their meanings as gendered pronouns only emerged in the late 1800s, largely as translations of European text. Nowadays, they're mostly used to indirectly refer to one's "boyfriend" and "girlfriend". Japanese doesn't usually need to use third person pronouns at all, since you can just drop implied subjects or objects. When one is used, I usually see something like "Ano hito" which literally means "that person", but is often used where an English speaker would write "he" or "she". To me, what it sounds like what you're describing is the English script didn't insert as much gendered language as other languages' localizations did, maybe so they could recycle more of the script between male and female Alear. That's definitely a choice, and one it's fair to question, but it's not accurate to represent it as "removing gendered language present in the original Japanese", since Japanese very rarely makes note of gender.
