Harold Hill is such a chad in this song. The flirtation is so on point. No wonder I kind of like him despite his schemes, he is a good match for Marian.
For some reason I prefer this version over the Robert Preston one. Not the entire movie, just this song. I feel like Broderick has the perfect stresses on the lyrics, and although he wasn't a great con man, that was what made his version of this song so good.
We're going to be doing this for our spring musical, and I can't wait! I know I probably won't get Marian, but I still absolutely LOVE this song, and Gary, Indiana.!
Except Matthew didn't do his own singing as Simba, simply because he is not a tenor, and apparently, the Disney way was that the hero (if adult) would be a tenor (if he ever sang). They made an exception to this role because Harold Hill is a baritone role.
@@rebeccam4397 Disney did a TV adaptation of this program in 2003, where Broderick starred, and of all Disney productions, this telefilm adaptation was the one time he did his own singing.
Well, he could. For the first two _Lion King_ movies, Broderick just never did his own singing as Simba. Instead, first movie, Toto's Joseph Williams; then video-game/T&P substitute Cam Clarke for the sequel. Why? Just for the traditional singing-hero-as-tenor thing.

“What would you like to take out?”
“The librarian”
(Whispers) “quiet!”

I like this version...He's got a great singing voice
Ya especially because Robert Preston talks more through the song
I work at a library. If someone sang this for me that would be awesome
Maaaaaaaaris. Madam Librarina. what could I do, My Dear, to make it clear, I need you dear.

I ENJOY HIS VOICE, JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF STRESS ON THE LYRICS

Matthew Broderick was the voice of Simba as an adult.
It took me a while to figure that out!
The only difference is that as Simba, he never did his own singing; here, in this role, he did.

@@KBAFourthtime The Music Man isn't Disney, so what do you mean by "they made an exception?"
