i love how cool gus plays it here. he's probably watching the cams whenever his courier comes in and spotted jimmy acting shifty immediately. he literally blends into the background to keep an eye on him, and even shoves his ass in jimmy's face to see if he'll break his gaze. gus likely has a secret signal, maybe him even just showing up, for the courier to leave. it's only when jimmy starts acting so publicly sus that gus is pretty much forced to confront him, but even then jimmy doesn't think to mention him when he's giving his detailed report back to mike.
I thought this exact thing about the signal. Maybe if Gus comes over (or doesn't?) and cleans under him it's a signal to leave. I don't see how else would they play the drop off? Maybe the courier would act as if he forgot the bag?
This is the first time we see Saul and Gus interact. 2 iconic characters in the same scene.
This episode showed us the origin story of Mike and Gus' partnership and also Saul and Franceska. Yes, that's his secretary in Breaking Bad
8:22 - Gus was clearly sending the guy a signal by sweeping by him and walking away. It was most likely some non-verbal queue.
The crazy thing is, even with Gus back, you haven't even been introduced as yet to the best character in this show. Can't wait for that moment when this person first appears.

That reaction was PERFECT and exactly what the creators of the show had in mind for the Los Pollos Hermanos reveal. So HYPE!!
The quick thinking by Jimmy to quickly slip the watch and give a reasonable explanation to dig in the trash. Followed by the even better move of not allowing Gus to clean his watch and see a perfectly fine clasp thus tipping Gus off to Jimmy
With regard to the food prices, just a head's up that Better Call Saul (proper) begins 6 years before Breaking Bad (in 2008), so this episode would be from 2002.
If you want to see something crazy, go track down some KFC commercials from 2002 where you can get a 9-piece bucket of chicken for $6.99 and biscuits and gravy to feed a family of four added for a dollar more.

Hell ya! That reveal of the Los Pollos sign is too awesome! The amount of excitement just for Gus is real. I was freaking out watching this the first time, and this was the first season of the Breaking Bad universe I got to watch live. It was awesome! Love these reactions as always man!

This episode takes place in 2002. Better Call Saul is essentially a period piece.
alright yeah Gus is back, exciting I know, but can we talk about how well the episode was written and directed to give you the reveal of Gus as well as the overall tension of the situation. It's so well put together and It's one of the best moments/scenes of the series, with the exception of the 6th season. Can't wait to go deeper into this series.
When it comes to working deviously inside the law, Chuck can be just as deadly as Slippin' Jimmy, maybe even more so. These two brothers can really bring out the worst in each other.
Mike was doing great on intel gathering. Sadly he needed some help and asked Jimmy to assist. Jimmy was lousy on the intel gathering. Interestingly enough, Jimmy thinks fast after already getting caught. He stripped his watch into the garbage bin which made for a great excuse. Getting caught by Gus wasn't dangerous in that situation (or was it?).
Jimmy also was lousy on dealing with Chuck and let his emotions rule the scenario. We saw Jimmy think fast when rooting through the garbage bin. The question remains - how fast can Jimmy think now that he was caught by Chuck?

Been waiting patiently for you to get to this Gus episode. I thought the scene showing the restaurant sign was the end of the last episode, but it all happened in Episode 2. I LOVED your reaction - even though I wish you hadn't guessed it before it happened. Can't believe you forgot about poor Francesca Liddy (even though you sort of recognized her)
I envy you in this one. Watching and following this show as it aired, the production spoiled Gus’s return as promotion for season 3. I wish I’d been surprised as you were!

This whole tape situation shows that Chuck can play as dirty as Jimmy if he wants to. It runs in the family. Their relationship is so captivating.
As far as I know, the filming of the restaurant in Los Pollos Hermanos in Better Call Saul was in the same place as Breaking Bad. It just seems like a different place at first, because of the magical direction of their work, they are able to show the same place in different perspectives

The one and only, Gustavo Fring. Chuck is a hypocrite as he resents Jimmy for being a conman yet he emotionally manipulated Jimmy. The tape was legally useless on its own and everyone knew it. Jimmy was hurt by Chuck manipulating him.

Those prices are late 90s, early 00s. Remember Carls Jr's "six dollar burger", which was supposed to be a fancy fast-food burger that theoretically should cost 6 dollars, but they were selling them for $3.50 or something. They were my jam for a while. Now I might hit up a Taco Bell with my daughters a few times a year, or an In N Out burger, but that's about it. The last times I've been to Jack in the Box it was just so disappointing and depressing, and expensive as frig! Their chicken sandwiches just come with the bun, meat, lettuce, tomato and that's it and it's all flavorless, except the meat is OK. I want some cheese and some mayo or something, WTH. Yeah, I swore off JNTB because it was consistently lame all the time, and expensive as frig! I'd rather just go to Chipotle if I'm going to be paying those kinds of prices. Fast food ain't what it used to be. Even Taco Bell is expensive now, unless you just buy the cheap crap that's lame. I miss Taco Bell's grilled stuffed burritos, those were my jam for years. A huge honking steak burrito with all the fixings for like $5-$6, that was awesome.

i love that you didnt see gus coming at all. a lot of people have it spoiled for them that hes in the show before they even start watching which is really a bummer because the way they do build up to and then reveal him is so good. from here on out the show continues to just build on and expand the BrBa universe in incredible ways.

Seeing Jimmy and Gus sharing a scene, and Jimmy being lowkey terrified is kind of interesting in hindsight knowing that Jimmy (as Saul) in Breaking Bad arguably plays the most important role in Walter bringing down Gus’ empire.
But damn! That ending with Chuck, I swear, I can see him trying his hardest not to smirk to Jimmy.
We all know Jimmy has his share of fuck ups, including the Chicago Sunroof, but has he ever gone out of his way to try and hurt his own brother at this point? Particularly for the sake of it?
Mad kudos to Michael McKean. Chuck might be a hypocritical and self-righteous douche, but Michael McKean really plays Chuck masterfully in a really emotionally driven way.
