    Harvey,
I’ve enjoyed all your videos. I subscribed a few months ago after hearing about your channel from Buckin’s channel. Your videos have really helped advance my confidence in saw work. I have a few saws I own for the fun of it, only around the house and at camp. A ms250, G444 (ms440 clone), and just purchased a G366 (ms361 clone).
I bought cylinders for the g444 and cleaned the ports the best I can. I don’t really understand the degrees of the ports yet. So I don’t move the ports up or down, just clean and try to visualize the flow as best I can. Your videos very helpful. I’ll be getting the G366 in the mail soon and I’ll be working on that. Seeing how well I can get it running.
Thanks for the positive and encouraging videos.
    Tom McPherson

Hi Harvey, I had a buddy do a light port and polish on my 05 kx250 and fitted a HGS exhaust system. It made a bike out of it, it increased hp and broadened powerband, so it pulled harder but felt more linear from being in the powerband earlier. I reckoned with the improvements, a v force 2 Reed was a necessity, so I popped 1 in and bingo, I made an antichrist out of the bike! Man was it fast, but it was way too much for the type of riding I do. Can't imagine a cr500 with the same reeds! Btw I have on occasion ridden a yz 490 and a kx 500 so I know what them beasts are about. I'm waiting patiently to see what you've got in store for that beautiful cr 500. Take care from Ireland.

Exactly what I think to Harvey. Great video. That 500 is going to rip. I have a LT 500 Suzuki quadzilla. I also have it done up right. Damm spankey. You know how them 500 are there no joke. Hopefully thing will get back on track. Things are messed up city is getting locked down today. I'm going to finish up my new build 5.7 hemi for my dodge ram truck. I'm going to have some free time to work on my stuff. I work as a mechanic at a spray foam place keeping everything going. I'm you age Harvey. We have seen a lot of things in our lifes. I think you read my mind! I was thinking I wonder what Colin does for a living? I knew it was repair troubleshooting of some kind. Thanks for letting us know. One other thing you call it the hit. Is that the same thing as the power band kicks in? I had a 89 YZ 490 it had a wicked power band. It took a minute to kick in but when it did hang on the front tire was on its way up. About 10 years ago my neighbor bought one looked exactly like mine from back in the day. He let me ride it and I had to show off a little when I got off of it I was shaken like a leaf. He said you still got it. I said I got something I didn’t have when I was younger it’s called fear! Lol

My brother, and 2 sisters and I would grab our riding mowers, and gas cans ever other day, 25 dollars worth of gas per mower, because the rations didn’t apply to directly to agricultural uses, but any vehicle that was pulling a trailer filled with lawn equipment was rationed to fueling every other day! While we all cut lawns, only one riding mower was ever used, and that towed a wagon with 5 push reel mowers, that gas was for my father to get to and from work, because both of our cars had even last digit registration, and each household was allowed 10 gallons of gas per day!
Then later in about 1975, I remember double the price marked on the pump for gas, gas-o-hol, and a bunch of other less then favorable situations. And yes gasoline has not gotten any cheaper over time, and it seems that all of these new fuel additives do three things, ruin the fuel, ruin the engine, and create more health issues, while costing us more all the while.

Harvey, I have about 8 years on you, I remember my grandmother having paper/fabric type towels which were somewhat a luxury in the late 50's. She used a towel, rinsed it out & hung on towel rack to dry & reused them several times. My mother didn't do that. I tend to reuse them too, drives my wife crazy.... I'm a cheap b-tard I guess, just don't see the reason to waste. Remember odd-even license plates to get gas, odd on odd days, even on even days & 10 gal. limits? Gas was about 14.9 cents/gal when I started driving.

Thanks for the explanation on the Reed valve and timing. I'm new to powersaws and two strokes so it's a bit of a mystery to me, but this helped alot. I buy the occasional '70 and '80 powersaw when it comes by for small money. Just bought a Partner, buyer has no intel on it what model it is, but I saw a video of TheChainSaw Guy of a R421 and it looks dead on. Also have two PM610's and one PM650, not that rare, but would like to do them up a bit and take some first steps into "hotrodding" them. On the whole virus stuff. You guys stay save and healthy, it will happen and it will get better. Look after each other!

Nice explanation of how a reed works and 2 cycle timing, I never knew about them until you mentioned reeds a while ago. Now I know what that thing was in my old homelite. My next curiosity is the role a muffler plays in creating power in a 2 cycle engine. My brother used to race 2 cycle go carts. Two different classes ran the exact same cart and 100cc Yamaha motor. One went slower and had a beer can shaped muffler but the other class went faster and had a big exhaust that was fat in the middle. Can you explain that one, hopefully my observation is correct?

    @AuMechanic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Just on a point about reeds and timing.
The actual opening period of the reeds is similar at low and high RPM
What does change is that at low speed the reed opens earlier and shuts earlier than at high speed.
At low speed the reed opens well before transfers closing and shuts well before exhaust open
At high speed the reeds open around the same time as the transfer closing or later and reed closes just before exhaust open.
So at high speed the whole open period of the reed gets later and later as RPM rises but the total opening period of them does not change much..

I know this video is a year old. I had a ported '91 CR500. I had V Force reeds in a stock cage. I tried the FMF Gnarly pipe and the pro circuit. The Gnarly had a wicked hit and the pro circuit was much more rideable with a smoother and wider powerband.
A buddy had the same bike with the VForce cage like you have. With the FMF pipe it was ALL bottom end. After 3rd gear my bike would leave him like it was a 125. For what it's worth...
