GERMANY: Terror supporters should be able to be deported! Faeser law in the Bundestag today!
This Wednesday, the Federal Cabinet intends to decide on a reform announced by Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), which would allow deportations in future following the approval of a single terrorist offense. Government circles said on Tuesday that even a single comment glorifying or condoning such an act could constitute a serious interest in deportation.
A particularly serious interest of the German state in deportation is also to be assumed if someone condones and rewards certain crimes in a way that is likely to disturb public peace. In this case, a criminal conviction would not have to be awaited before deportation.
One trigger for the planned tightening of the law, which must also be approved by the Bundestag after the cabinet, is the serious knife attack at an event critical of Islam in Mannheim, in which police officer Rouven Laur was killed by a man from Afghanistan at the end of May.
Government officials also point out that Islamists have condoned and glorified such acts, particularly on social networks following the terrorist attack by Hamas in Israel. "If the authors of these criminal hate postings do not have a German passport, they must - in addition to criminal prosecution - also be consistently expelled and deported," it was said in government circles. In such cases, German security interests carry more weight than the interests of those who foment a climate of violence online.
