Hobart is a really lovely city full of tourist traps that you are very happy to be trapped in. My favourite is the 200 year old sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place that have been transformed into cafes and shops overlooking a park and the waterfront. Behind them looms a high mountain that is snowcapped in winter. I've been to plenty of cities in Europe that are the same size (around 250,000 people), but Hobart is nicer than any of them.

Both of these major projects, the extant MONA in Hobart and The Fox NGV in Melbourne in the pipeline, have been designed by Greek Australian architects. Nonda Katsalidis completed MONA and has won prestigious awards for his design and Angelo Candalepas whose winning design for The Fox NGV will be constructed in Melbourne. Katsalidis and Candalepas have also designed many other significant buildings throughout Australia and have won awards for those as well. I will say however, Hobart is an infrastructure nightmare. As a Tasmanian, you see it a lot. Older generations dont want any change what so ever, so all the roads are unequipped for the population growth, there is no decent public transport and we currently have a housing crisis. I cant wait to move out of Tasmania
Tasmania is Australia's best kept secret. To call it beautiful is a massive understatement. It is so lush and green. The nature and biodiversity cannot be understated. The southern lights of Aurora Australis is one of countless reasons to go there. Other reasons include the worlds freshest air, incredible food and convict architecture.
As a Melbournian its very exciting. It's quite a staggering project given the two existing NGV galleries are already immense, one of which adjoins the site of the new gallery
As an Australian and having spent two entire days at MOMA, I highly recommend that it be visited, and that an open mind be kept. There will be something for everyone. 🇦🇺
Every state capital has a gallery of contemporary art, even some of the regional hubs (like Bendigo) have surprisingly good collections. It's the beauty of Tasmania's wild places that makes it a truly _unique_ Australian destination. I could've visited MONA a decade ago, but it would've cost me a day's hiking... I don't regret my choice.

@@CastorRabbit Hunh. You would have to pay to enter, right? Any free admission times?
Same for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the art but did love the location, architecture, and general quirkiness.
@@michaelrmurphy2734 No, anyone can hang out on the grounds for free and Tasmanians can enter the museum for free at any time so long as they have some ID.
Tassie Girl here; Museum wars are probably one of the better kinds
Also MONA is quite accessible by road, though it is a little bit north of Hobart
The unnecessary shade for Danni Minogue lols, I'm livinggggggg 💚
These museums look incredible. I need to get to Tasmania.
Oh boy. Can't wait for another museum full of thrilling modernism. What a high water mark of Australian culture.
Tell me about it. It’ll be a centre for boring people who make a really conscious effort to call themselves cultural.
These will solve Australia’s most pressing problem, the sever lack of self important cvnts.
HAHA!!! Yeah, as if there was nothing before the Europeans came.
Not much thought for the Aborignials there.
😂😂😂😂😂
I love how B1M has upvoted you (and likely missed your sarcasm).😝
Interesting topic. More videos on Australia please.
So glad to see a video of a place outside of the 5 or 6 cities we always see on here.
They are both just two of the many Greek Australians architects who have been involved with major building projects throughout Australia, in all the major cities as well as regional areas.
If they're born and raised here...just call them Australian.
Never even heard of those girls, lmao
MONA is an incredible place that keeps calling you back. Even if you don’t appreciate all the art, you will appreciate the amazing architecture.
Found your channel recently loving the absolutely amazing videos.
I know it for years
The B1m is the my favourite you tube channel
Dannii "I Begin to Wonder" Minogue... "I began to wonder myself... was my only global "hit" in 2003 enough to cement my reputation as an also ran in the pop game?" TLDR: It isn't... Need more songs! MORE INPUT STEFANIE! ;-)
Wow love seeing my home town the last 18 years, on TH-cam specially The B1M thankyou.
MONA is free for Tasmanians and is built in a blue collar suburb which makes it cooler still.
How many blue collar residents did it displace? How much affordable housing did it destroy?
@@michaelrmurphy2734 It's still pretty blue collar and contains quite a lot of affordable housing for Hobart. There is a shortage statewide but you can't blame MONA. Developments still happen in this part of town while the rest of the state is dominated by NIMBYs
The B1m is the best of you tube
Usually it is "War Museum", not the other way around 😂
Everyone should go to Tasmania for it's natural beauty, people and food... and of course, the MONA. Highly, highly recommended.
Always great vids👍🙏
I really enjoy and like these videos about Australia
you are doing great job 👍🏻
The new NGV in Melbourne is the tip of the iceberg, the tallest tower Aus is gonna be built pretty close to it and transform that neighbourhood!! Don’t need a ferry to get there ;)
The absolute savagery shown to Dannii 💀😂
Wonderful and excellent and beautiful museum brother
You did NOT have to do Dannii so dirty at the end there! 😂 otherwise, great video as always. Everyone should look up the mosque designed by Angelo Candalepas in Punchbowl, it's stunning!
We don't really know her songs 🤣Matt you kill me 🤣love this channel
There’s money for war ALWAYS and now there money for a 4billion building of WAR LMAO
I'm a simple man. I see a video that mentions Melbourne, I watch it.
Very Good Information👌👌👌 🌹🌹🌹
That poop machine is sweet
Looking forward to the Melbourne muesum sounds so interesting
Hey can you cover the golden temple?
Its made of real gold
As a Melbournian its very exciting. It's quite a staggering project given the two existing NGV galleries are already immense, one of which adjoins the site of the new gallery
what a waste of money when so many people are suffering
"And Danii... well, we don't really know her songs" ... SHADE
You missed the Upgrade extension to the NSW Art Gallery in Sydney..
Remember who’s land you are on and acknowledge the traditional owners of the land
Bro Australia be spending more money than my rich uncle
Appalled by the fact that no research has gone into Danii Minogue's discography! Otherwise a fantastic video, as usual! :))
Came for construction, stayed for kylie references
As an Australian and having spent two entire days at MOMA, I highly recommend that it be visited, and that an open mind be kept. There will be something for everyone. 🇦🇺
I think you mean MONA. MoMA is the museum in New York. And The Met.
agreed, loved my time at Mona, never been to a museum / gallery like it
@@michaelrmurphy2734 you are certainly correct.😊
Hobart is just great as it is. I don't want it to change. So beautiful in Tasmania
Wow! Great video!
very nice video guys!!!
Do they have in their collection the famous "MONA Lisa"?
Great Video! The Multi-Billion Dollar Thunder from Down-Under!
That is a Rupaul's Drag Race level read at 6:21. After that, the library is officially closed.
B1M BABY!!! 💪🔥👍👌❤️🐶🐂🐎😎
Thank you for sharing this down under construction war.
Good job, B1M.
Currently the area feels like a bit of a car park, so any change is definitely welcome
Sooo you are telling me that all Melbourne really needs is a ferry 🤔
Nah a proper river 😂
They're gonna be better than the Louvre! I may go visit there if I'm not going to Sydney but still Australia (the country).
I don't seen how a more conventional museum is much of a competitor to MONA. I've never heard of it before and now I want to go.
