It was not the sexual passion which held Alexander and Hephaistion together. It was the deepest and most honest love you can only imagine. The love and bond between them was stronger than any physical action. I wish and dream that all people would experience this kind of love in reality. How beautiful it sounds.

Wrong perspective. In deed, in ancient Greece it was encouraged, expected and very common having these types of male relationships that include sexual practice. The standard of today's friends love are way different of those from that period of time in Greece. Condemned or not by our opinions (I am not the best supporter of gay rights) this is really a historically inaccurate movie.

These are my favourite scenes in the movie, and I like that you added subtitles. The Romeo and Juliet theme music was perfect with this video. Alexander the Great and Hephaestion are my favourite historical characters. The story of their lifelong love is forever inspiring.

It wasn't only sexual passion that held them together. Their love and respect for each other and their deep bond of friendship and love which they created from childhood is just so beautiful. They cared about each other more than themselves.

Jared Leto is really good at 6:45-7:40. There's nothing sad about the dialogue itself. It simply sounds like a man congratulating his friend before his wedding. However, it's obvious from Hephaestion's tone of voice, gestures, facial expressions, etc... that he's completely heartbroken but trying not to show it.

You've done a fabulous job of encapsulating their love story from the long and convoluted history of Alexander's conquests. I love the line: "Nobody ever defeated Alexander except Hephaestion's thighs. Pairing it with the R & J theme works very well. Thanks for all you editing work here. You've done a fine job.

I dont care wether it is true or not, the director messed up or not, alexander was bisexual or not, I just love these two together

    • @johngallagher9151
      @johngallagher9151 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Alexander was bisexual, as most men were in ancient Italy and Greece, as were the women.
Maybe in Celtic, Iberian, Germanic, Scythian, Brittanic etc. etc. tribes there was less of that going on, but there was definitely more freedom of sexuality in antiquity without any judgement from others. People had more important things to focus on, unlike weak ass humans do today.

In front at such experience your heart and mind feel so hopeless and small you long for the person but know that there is nothing that one can do. Screaming, crying, distracting one self at the end nothing works. One has to "die " but it takes time
you have to renew your self change and find a place to grieve alone. No one understand you. The experience is sublime you feel small in front of the events.

We go on with our life and we learn to better our self. This way by doing good to people that are there now with us we get forgiveness and acceptance from our loved one that passed away. Above all forgive your self, you are learning and improving. No one is perfect, we learn from experience.

I've watched this movie five years ago and was deeply moved by it for beautifully porturated love between these two actors and I almost have forgotten that they were playing as gay lovers. Although there is no physical evidence stated that they were lovers, fiction or not, their love story is the main theme in this movie in my opinion.

I see that Alexander had to listen to some "Evangelical" lecture from his time too! :(( Yes, that is accurate historically - they've done their proper research. Such lectures seriously mess people up! Amusingly, I had been under the same programming in my 20s, when trying to figure out where my passion for slash came from... and at first thinking that "Sex between the men would ruin everything. Those pure feelings! Ew sex" :P (little did I know, that Greek men *themselves* theorized that gay people shouldn't have sex... because gay supposedly "doesn't really exist" as true love/partnership - very similar to the church propaganda nowadays). As a result, it's a very immature interpretation that
"It was not the sexual passion which held Alexander and Hephaistion together. It was the deepest and most honest love you can only imagine. The love and bond between them was stronger than any physical action. I wish and dream that all people would experience this kind of love in reality. How beautiful it sounds." (mel b)
Indeed, "sounds" great if you don't know, but it's not how it works. They had to *die* to be together in the way their souls wanted! Which would otherwise be unnecessary. Today we are still grasping at bits of this Vision because all the good ones die young, but it is those that live who get to change the world... so yeah. Evil bastards we are. :P
Looking closely, "Physical action" (lol!) is being unfairly relegated to a "down there" by not recognizing it's not as much physical as it is energetic (being looked down upon, from our "head-quarters") - a most pure, honest expression of connectedness and intimacy. I do experience "this kind of pure love" in reality, so I can tell you that the idea "Platonic Love is higher than other loves (for reason of asexual conduct)" is very flawed, and messed me up for a long time!! It's one thing to be asexual *to society*, but to be truly in love with a man, to recognize him as your true love, and still reject him based only on a wish to achieve "excellency" in the eyes of the collective, is fighting against yourself. Stop doing that. We should live undivided. (By the way I seriously ogle Buddhist monks... imagine that level of self-control! Yum.)
Starting with Plato, Greeks began to rewrite their older myths to divide between "higher and lower" aspects. Yet the "higher" aspect as they saw it, is not true eternity - it is merely an effect of literacy which happened in those days. It started to disconnect people from Nature and from what really matters. Such as the fact these myths had already been created out of a need in society to highlight its social imbalances. The myths are "the odd one out" (the rebels against injustice) and didn't need to be doctored. The myths tell of many examples of lovers who couldn't recognize their love as "good" and thus had to die in order to find themselves. The reality around them was indeed filled with unbridled lust, but they misapplied this thought to their relationship. (By the way lust is very interesting, as it indicates the abuse that you subject your own mind to, which lust arrives to balance out in the end.)
As far as I got from the movie and mythological studies, Alexander then made it his goal to "protect" his lover Hephaestion from all the "darker aspects" (sexual passion) he imagined would not be "conducive to excellency" or would put undue pressure on his friend. This is a very common problem. And in many cases, a tragedy.
Sexuality (in its true sense) is what creates love in the world, not the other way around. Sexuality is the purest thing you have inside yourself, the one thing which is not ruled over by your rivalry with anyone else (i.e. to 'win' something only because someone else has it). So expressing it will create love as you "rule over yourself" and refrain from grabbing other people's possessions/fame - not by denying yourself sexually, but by knowing truly what makes you tick. If you want a lot or very little, no matter. No slut-shaming exists in true love.
When I first experienced the suggestion of sex in my teens (between those men who were "best friends" in that special way) I felt my Lightbody activating - that most "excellent" part of myself - what the ancients called the God. I never ever forgot that moment. And it was about me too, as a tomboy I have a lot of masculine energy so my connection to my Soul Mate resembles the gay stuff closely (but also because of this closeness, I totally understand that we are not the same, that each thing exists on its own terms). Someone very special once told me (when I was struggling with the idea of sex in love): "Stop arguing with yourself against your will, and just communicate how you want to." Very wise.
In conclusion, there is no sexual obligation you are under, but just don't be manipulated out of intimacy by ancient folk with silly fear-based ideas. "The lies my Jedi teacher told me" is a very cool article on this topic...
I will also quote a gay guy Adam Lambert because, through his vision, that ancient manipulation is becoming more and more clear to me. Those Greek guys weren't ALL gay for real, but they tried to use gayness as a vessel for passing down ideology (power) and that's why things got messed up.
"This is me asking un woke straight folks to recognize that being Queer is a lot more than just the act of sex itself. Surely u get that? There are actually members of the LGBTQ community that may need the same reminder. Lol.
All this being said, I’m a big proponent of queer sex. It’s really fun. Even better when there’s real Intimacy.
….and if that makes you uncomfortable, you’re too sensitive and/Or you’re *supporting a double standard*."

Oh but don't worry. They were together in life too 🩵. They were best friends and companions from childhood till Hephaestion's death, and Alexander died just a few months later. They really were life partners, and they decided to be together in the afterlife as well.
