While I appreciate the effort you took in making the video, I have a question about the epistemology of gender studies: On what standards does it necessitate that gender should be considered a specific characteristic worthy of separate examination from natural sex? I believe that the distinction is unnecessary and confusing at times, especially outside the academic cycle and as exemplified here in some of the unfriendly comments. It has been noticed that genders have played an important role in human societies throughout history, yet as in the case of the Paleolithic and some sub-Saharan tribal societies, societies may also assign to each of the genders(sexs) different social expectations and roles. So the real focus here should be how genders(sexs) correlate to various social roles in different times for cultural reasons instead of drawing a line between gender and sex which used to mean in same thing in most parts of modern English.
Is there a single profession outside of a University wanna be professor or a government bureaucrat that the dribble taught in this major would assist one in gaining employment? Serious question.
Gender studies was major and I work for USCIS aka immigration services. All of my peers have relevant work even during lockdown. None of my peers work in fast food, grocery store, minimum wage, barista, etc. We had someone work at Burger King during undergrad but international students can only work on campus. I’ve met a engineering major working at McDonald’s as couldn’t find work. My friend worked two years as a barista as couldn’t find work with her engineering degree. None of my peers are in student loan debt. My parents paid in full for my education. I know plenty of stem majors drowning in student debt and most people don’t bat an eye.

Im in the intersex category, with XXY chromosomes, which is a dysphoria, even though only men can be born with that. Same goes for one X chromosome, which only women can be born with. Gender dysphoria basically means "sex dysphoria", because gender and sex is officially the same thing, so someone born with two sets of genitalia are in a very tiny minority of the worlds population, and determining their sex would be based around either which genitalia is fully developed or which chromosomes they have. And that's why a very tiny percentage of the worlds population could be an XY female or an XX male, but that's extremely rare. Its a complex subject to talk about, but easy to understand if you know basic biology and aren't a bigot! The definition of a bigot is a person devoted to their opinion, intolerant of differing opinions, and prejudiced against certain groups. And she's just fallen down the rabbit hole of gender studies, which is misinformation!

I'm not gonna get into the gender debate (it's more psychological structure than biological) but the sex debate is a hill I will die on. Intersex people are those who are born with a different biological sex than male or female - usually having to do with their chromosomes. There are multiple mutations that can (and do) exist with the X and Y chromosomes, including (but not limited to) XYXY, XYY, XXY, XXX. The Y chromosome is even its own genetic mutation that humans didn't start with (everyone with a Y chromosome is biologically related). There are also other instances of "parts not matching chromosomes" or other hormonal/developmental irregularities. No one is saying infinite variations exist. Although the intersex population makes up about 1% of the population, that's not an insignificant number, that's one in one hundred people; it's very likely you know someone who's intersex (even if you don't know it.) Before responding, I should add that this information is easily verifiable, and you should do your own research on the topic, preferably by reading medical journals, or other educational sources.

An example of this would be transgender person; if an individual was born a male then that’s their biological sex and because DNA is out of our control that would be sex. However, gender is viewed a social construct and can be sculpted any way we choose. As a result of me being in these spaces a lot I have come to stand by this idea. Masculinity and femininity are decided by society and that’s why generations have been able to to “break gender norms” to create new ones. On the other hand when it comes to sexuality I’m sure there’s some fluidity i. there but from what I’ve seen there are some people who are simply either heterosexual or homosexual, so it’s a bit difficult to say that sexual orientation is a social construct.

what is amazing to me is society has chosen this issue to attack first "Gender Studies" and claim that it's a social construct, over RACE which is an obvious social construct. Quick correction regarding asexuals. They don't experience sexual attraction, but they can still desire sex or crave intimacy. Second question is too ambiguous. Are you refering to gender as in Sexual Identity or Sexual Orientation? The fact that two separate definitions exist for the same word is ridiculous and confusing. Actually, it's 3 definitions, because gender originally referred to the biological sex of a person. Gender-orientated toys don't decide someone's orientation. If I wanted to play with cars and guns as a kid, I could still be gay. Girls are still mechanics, engineers and scientists AND can still be "cisgender". If gender is a social construct, then when someone's child comes out as trans, then we have, through social construction created a trans kid. If it happens naturally, toys and behaviour of role models should have no affect on kids, yet trans parents who adopt children somehow manage to get the only trans kids in the orphanage? I believe you made a mistake. The terms genderfluid and bigender are not the same thing. Being bigender means, like you said that a person's identity is composed of two genders at once. On the other hand, the term genderfluid refers to a person whose gender identity is NOT FIXED, which means it CHANGES (for example today someone whose genderfluid may identify as male, in a couple hours or even days they may identify as female, next time they may identify as nonbinary and so on. Please do not confuse those two terms, they are very different.

However, I have a question: doesn't the concept of bigender insinuate some fluidity in identity? My understanding of bigender is that someone may experience two gender identities simultaneously, but then might experience one gender identity at other times, while also experiencing a non-binary identity at other times. From the definitions that I have researched, there does seem to be some fluidity involved for those who identify as bigender. What do you think?

Gender studies was major and I work for USCIS aka immigration services. All of my peers have relevant work even during lockdown. None of my peers work in fast food, grocery store, minimum wage, barista, etc. We had someone work at Burger King during undergrad but international students can only work on campus. I’ve met a engineering major working at McDonald’s as couldn’t find work. My friend worked two years as a barista as couldn’t find work with her engineering degree. None of my peers are in student loan debt. My parents paid in full for my education. I know plenty of stem majors drowning in student debt and most people don’t bat an eye.

Im in the intersex category, with XXY chromosomes, which is a dysphoria, even though only men can be born with that. Same goes for one X chromosome, which only women can be born with. Gender dysphoria basically means "sex dysphoria", because gender and sex is officially the same thing, so someone born with two sets of genitalia are in a very tiny minority of the worlds population, and determining their sex would be based around either which genitalia is fully developed or which chromosomes they have. And that's why a very tiny percentage of the worlds population could be an XY female or an XX male, but that's extremely rare. Its a complex subject to talk about, but easy to understand if you know basic biology and aren't a bigot! The definition of a bigot is a person devoted to their opinion, intolerant of differing opinions, and prejudiced against certain groups. And she's just fallen down the rabbit hole of gender studies, which is misinformation!

I'm not gonna get into the gender debate (it's more psychological structure than biological) but the sex debate is a hill I will die on. Intersex people are those who are born with a different biological sex than male or female - usually having to do with their chromosomes. There are multiple mutations that can (and do) exist with the X and Y chromosomes, including (but not limited to) XYXY, XYY, XXY, XXX. The Y chromosome is even its own genetic mutation that humans didn't start with (everyone with a Y chromosome is biologically related). There are also other instances of "parts not matching chromosomes" or other hormonal/developmental irregularities. No one is saying infinite variations exist.
Although the intersex population makes up about 1% of the population, that's not an insignificant number, that's one in one hundred people; it's very likely you know someone who's intersex (even if you don't know it.) Before responding, I should add that this information is easily verifiable, and you should do your own research on the topic, preferably by reading medical journals, or other educational sources.

@@professorhslandofwisdom4817 I’m happy this comment was made. I don’t study gender studies but in queer spaces I have heard individuals refer to gender and sex differently. An example of this would be transgender person; if an individual was born a male then that’s their biological sex and because DNA is out of our control that would be sex. However, gender is viewed a social construct and can be sculpted any way we choose. As a result of me being in these spaces a lot I have come to stand by this idea. Masculinity and femininity are decided by society and that’s why generations have been able to to “break gender norms” to create new ones. On the other hand when it comes to sexuality I’m sure there’s some fluidity i. there but from what I’ve seen there are some people who are simply either heterosexual or homosexual, so it’s a bit difficult to say that sexual orientation is a social construct.

All of my peers have relevant work if not doing post bachelors and none of them work fast food, grocery store, minimum wage, etc. Most of the people I know drowning in debt are stem majors and not all have a job. I know engineering majors working fast food. My electrical engineering friend had to switch her major to English just to get a job. It’s been 3 years with no job in her original major while she works retail to help pay off the massive student loans that her parents took out for her.

what is amazing to me is society has chosen this issue to attack first "Gender Studies" and claim that it's a social construct, over RACE which is an obvious social construct. Quick correction regarding asexuals. They don't experience sexual attraction, but they can still desire sex or crave intimacy. They're just less likely to see a naked person and lose their mind like most people. Demisexual also comes under the ace umbrella, demisexuals are people like me, who find their attraction to someone increasing as a bond is built over time. Second question is too ambiguous. Are you refering to gender as in Sexual Identity or Sexual Orientation? The fact that two separate definitions exist for the same word is ridiculous and confusing. Actually, it's 3 definitions, because gender originally referred to the biological sex of a person.
Gender-orientated toys don't decide someone's orientation. If I wanted to play with cars and guns as a kid, I could still be gay. Girls are still mechanics, engineers and scientists AND can still be "cisgender". If gender is a social construct, then when someone's child comes out as trans, then we have, through social construction created a trans kid. If it happens naturally, toys and behaviour of role models should have no affect on kids, yet trans parents who adopt children somehow manage to get the only trans kids in the orphanage? So gender being socially constructed goes way beyond the so-called gender binary.

I believe you made a mistake. The terms genderfluid and bigender are not the same thing. Being bigender means, like you said that a person's identity is composed of two genders at once. On the other hand, the term genderfluid refers to a person whose gender identity is NOT FIXED, which means it CHANGES (for example today someone whose genderfluid may identify as male, in a couple hours or even days they may identify as female, next time they may identify as nonbinary and so on. Please do not confuse those two terms, they are very different.

However, I have a question: doesn't the concept of bigender insinuate some fluidity in identity? My understanding of bigender is that someone may experience two gender identities simultaneously, but then might experience one gender identity at other times, while also experiencing a non-binary identity at other times. From the definitions that I have researched, there does seem to be some fluidity involved for those who identify as bigender. What do you think?
