  • Here is a truck that took a lot of planning and effort. Mike and I originally found this truck while driving down I-5 in february. After going to the trailer park and talking with the people in the office, we learned that the trailer park collects their own garbage. Sadly as we had a schedule we didn't get the chance to film it. Some months later though, Alex and Mike found themselves in the trailer park again early one monday morning. However the drivers and helpers wouldn't let them film until the owner of the trailer park was contacted. They ended up leaving and that was it until just a few weeks ago. I knew I would be going down to Northern California to visit some family and thought that on the way I would try and stop to film this truck. Not wanting to have the same outcome that Alex and Mike did, I called ahead to the office to try and talk to the owner. Sadly the first time I called the owner wasn't in the office, but the lady at the desk took down my name and number. That was on a thursday and I was leaving for Norcal that following monday so time was of the essence. Not hearing back from them, I called the next day which was a friday around 2 or 3. Once again the owner wasn't in but I spoke with the lady again who remembered me from the day before. She had talked to the owner and gotten his okay for me to film. She gave me all the information and routes and such. Being extremely excited to film such an old truck, I told Mike and Alex. Seeing as they were free, they made the journey up to Norcal and filmed the truck with me, and it turned out to be quite the fun little trip!
Now onto the truck. This truck was actually a custom job done by the owner of the trailer park. He bought the EZ pack and the original chassis and bought a second chassis, which so happened to be this freightliner. The owner then took the body of the EZ pack, scrapped the original chassis, and mounted it on this late 80s to early 90s freightliner. No one knows for sure if the freightliner used to be a semi that was made straight frame and no one knows what the original chassis on the EZ pack used to be. The EZ pack body was made probably in the mid to late 60s, so it definitely classifies as a "classic refuse truck". Overall this truck was extremely unique, and I ended up getting 3 total videos of this beast. The rest of the videos will be seen in a few years. Mike and Alex will have their videos to upload sometime in the near future so look forward to those! I really hope you enjoy this video as a lot of planning and effort went into it! Special thanks to the crew of the truck, Mike and Alex for the transportation, and of course the owner and lady at the trailer park for making this video possible! Enjoy!!

Nice! Never saw a garbage man with a cowboy hat on and we live in Texas! Good looking truck - short and stubby!

Dude, you get extra milk and cookies tonight for this video. Brings back a lot of memories. I remember operating the first generation of the EZ Pack Super Hopper at a shopping mall north of Boston. I was only 15 at the time and would meet the truck in the morning. I would operate the blade while the guys loaded trash from the loading docks. The original design packed an excellent load but it had it's problems. The blade would jam at the loading edge, the metal used in the body was too soft and would tear. There was an electrical fire in the control box at the front of the body. The version you saw was the improved model. This is a great find. That truck should be in the Waste Pro museum in Sanford, FL. Terrific job man.

Awesome video!! Never seen a refuse truck chassis/body combo like this before - very unique, and probably one of the only ones. Love the classic feel to the EZ pack and its great that some are still in operation. Absolutely love how the packer works -- fascinating that it almost moves around in a little triangle. Sure don't make 'em like that anymore. In all my years watching refuse trucks I've never seen one with a sleeper cabin lol. Cool that this trailer park collects its own trash. Interesting how that guy is wearing a WM vest. I wonder where they dump? Great find once again!

Very cool! Nice catch the packing cycle kinda reminds of the European style packing cycle. A very cool beast of a truck that is! Faved

The "path" this packing blade takes works very similar to an older Leach design on some trucks in Keene, NH back in the early 1970's. Thanks for showing this video.

Wow this is an unbelievable truck. Great find! I wonder why he was wearing a WM vest though. Definitely one of my favorite garbage trucks ever!

It'll take me a couple more views to appreciate what we have here, but for now I'll say great job, the people of River Properties deserve applause for preserving and running this, and many thanks for making this a footage priority Alan. Trust California to have the wonky classic tucked away in a corner somewhere.

Very awesome cool unique truck packer combo! It really is a beast! Just seems like that huge blade is tired and worn out after so many years of service but its great that this company has kept this piece of refuse history alive. Great video work. Thanks

Wow what a classic!! only seen this type of truck once and that was 27 years ago! The packing cycle reminds me of the Leach Sani-Cruiser where you can see all the trash being packed into the body great find and looking forward to the next ones. Thanks for sharing,

THE PACKMASTER COMPETITOR IN ACTION. AWESOME. WITH THE HEIL FORMULA 3000 OF OREGON, THE HYDRO EZ PACK FROM IDAHO, THE CHRIS PEICHERT PACKMASTER, THE OLD LOADMASTER LM-120 AND THIS ONE IS THE FIFTH OLDEST REAR LOADER STILL IN SERVICE IN 21ST CENTURY. THIS WORKHORSES IS MORE GREAT THAN THE NEW ONES. ALL HAIL OLD REAR LOADERS.
