"Any leader worth their salt appoints a headsman. They're easily replaced and they do the dirty work a leader shouldn't have to do themselves. Proof of this concept can be found in the story of Randall 'the Raider', also referred to as the 'Emperor of Bandits'. Each time this vile man won in battle he would behead the commanders himself, sometimes as many as twenty at a time, ending entire bloodlines in his lifetime. His seemingly unstoppable rebellion was brought to an eerie close in the summer of 1087. The sizable host of looters, bandits, oathbreakers and deserters were riding high on a wave of victories after their successful siege of the city of Tyal. Yet the morning after their victory they were all gathered into the town square and dismissed by Randall. Sources from this time are scarce and unreliable, however, in multiple accounts Randall is quoted as having said this to his throng "All you brave soldiers that have fought for me, looters and bandits alike, I dismiss you from your service". It is unclear what his men did after this as records are non-existent, likely due to the record keepers and stewards also being dismissed. However records do exist from the Sturgian crusaders who were marching towards the city at the time. The report gives us an interesting window into the last moments of a man clearly broken beyond recognition, the report states as follows:
"On the 13th day of the summer of 1087 a lone rider under the banner of Randall the Raider flew at our marching lines, his horse and himself bedecked in the finest armour and jewels. The man jabbered to himself and his horse as he rode through the battle lines. A javelin pierced his breast and soon after he dismounted his horse, charging into the quickly assembled battle lines and impaled himself on the blade of one of the soldiers. Upon inspection of this mans body and the events of the following days it was surmised that this man had been Randall the Bandit, the target of this crusade."
While now only a footnote in history, this story is important to remember when becoming a leader of any kind. Delegation is the key to success when you have many things to attend to. They who bear the weight of too many responsibilities will pay a cost similar to that of Randall the Raider"
    - An excerpt from Luters "Guide to Leadership: A handbook for those who find themselves in power" published in 1456

Randall, king of thieves, emperor of bandits and looters, defender of all criminals.
Songs shall be sung in the woods of Battania, tales shall be told through the lands of Sturgia.
All of Calradia shall remember his name, thus his deeds was dishonest and unnecessary, but his might was infinite.
Rest in peace, Randall the Lordslayer. Ojojojojoj!

From petty squabbels fat and dumb
Sat lords from west to east in their castels of stone
So when Randalls father was slain for thieving a crumb
He helped them for their sins atone.
      Fearless he rushed into battle
Hated by almost all of Calradia
Slaughter he would them like cattle
Not victor, but he was a messenger.
Looter they called him and bandit and thief
When he sought nought but a life of his own.
The beginnig was hard but you better believe
Randall took from them a castle of stone.
Relentlessly the walls were under attack
      For thousands marched upon Dinar
But headless they all came back
And all noble women cried their mouths ajar.
To count the losses nobody dared, for they knew it was but a folly.
So when towards Randall the armies would strive
He brought Wonderfluff, Bow and his own trusty knife
So he and his own could shoot them down with every volley.
Never the nobles sought to parley
So Randall was left without choice
His hunger could not satisfy butter nor barley
One last goal he offered the boys:
"Take Tyal with me and you´ll be the heroes
The nobles should always have been!"
Their journey was splattered with armies and foes
As has since by no eye been seen.
Details of battle are never as certain
As legend and stories may tell,
But his last fray was the first he was hurt in
When he somber and willingly fell.
So remember, young noble, when you lay to bed
To let everyone make a good living.
Cause lordslayer Randall will come for your head
If your taking far exceeds giving.

History knows the man that died in the summer of 1087 as Randall, although there are many cognomens such as "the Raider", "the King of Looters", the "Emperor of Bandits" and "the Criminal Commander", very little of his actual history is actually recorded and thus we know little of his life before becoming "the Scourge of Calradia's Crowned Heads". The aristocracy reviled the man, so did all the peasants and soldiers that lost their livelihoods and family by his hand. Yet, despite his rise to power being shrouded by myths and legends, his was a meteoric rise and fall that marked the continent's history forever. For he managed to unite under his banner, the golden hound, those that had previously only fought in small skirmishes and lived on the run. More than that, he managed to turn the tables on the nobility, raising an army of those forgotten men of Calradia and putting countless lords and ladies to flight, even going as far as establishing his own petty kingdom and defending it from massive combined campaigns by the neighbouring realms. By his own hands, as well as sometimes in battle by the hands of his subordinates, crowned heads fell as the petals and leaves during autumn, leading to a massive shakeup on the power balance of the regions he was active on.
Randall died in what is presumed to be a fit of madness or suicidal glory, first dismissing his own soldiers, then charging against the amassing armies outside of his newly conquered capital, the city of Tyal, he appears to have rode by himself while screaming at the shield walls and being fired upon by skirmishers. His exact words are lost to time, however we know that he dismounted and ultimately charged against the line of swords, spears and shields, while wearing his finest jewellery and screaming at the men. The psychological impact of his campaigns can be surmounted by the fact that after his death every lord and lady in the surrounding kingdoms demanded to see the body in person, so as to be sure that their nightmare was over. His petty bandit kingdom fell soon after his unexpected death, having left no heir nor a will, much less any written constitution or laws, the men and women under his command appear to have initially defended what was left of his kingdom but ultimately dispersed back into hideouts all over the continent. Notwithstanding, his biggest mark on the continent's history was both a material and a symbolic blow to the aristocratic ways prevalent in those times.
For Randall's rise to power was a bloody one, but that was not uncommon in the era he lived or in the one preceding him. What made him unique was how he ultimately dispensed the same brutality upon lords and ladies as they had become used to dispense only to the lower classes. Furthermore, while Randall often ransomed or even recruited (sometimes conscripting at sword point) commoners, it became his hallmark to execute any captured lord or lady. This was in juxtaposition to the norms and rules followed by these aristocrats. As it's public and notorious, battles in those days were determined by the deaths of hundreds of commoners, under the command of a nobility who even in defeat was either ransomed or freed by their rivals. Randall turned this logic upside down, no longer were lords playing games, assured that even a defeat would be a minor setback, unsheathing their blades Randall meant assured death upon defeat. While the commoners were offered to pay for their liberty in coin or in service, the crowned heads were stuck on pikes and paraded outside of Randall's camp.
The profound impact of such brutal policy cannot be understated, having amassed a sizable host of looters, bandits, oathbreakers and deserters, achieving a wave of victories in both field battles and successful sieges, Randall showed that nobles could be defeated and that their lives were not worth any more than that of a commoner, even an outlaw that couldn't write his own name was worth the same as a banner knight once given the correct training and equipment. Multiple accounts of Randall's battles were passed around in oral history, some even portraying his final suicidal charge as a ruse, promising that he would return and lead a new host of outlaws to ravage the castles and towns of Calradia. Sources also mention several other men using his name and his banner to attempt such a thing, often ending up short and being crushed by coalitions that would have been impossible if not for Randall's deep impact on the nobility's psyche. It is unclear when exactly, as records are either unreliably or non-existent, likely due to scribes and archivists being forbidden to preserve this, but in the years following Randall's death his banner and name became associated with several quasi-independent cells of underground organizations. From Sturgian and Batanian, to the Imperial and even Khuzait and Aserai lands, sprouted a movement of commoners preaching for a society based on personal merit instead of birth. The constant infighting between the leaders of the nobility, as well as the on and off rebellions following on Randall's footsteps, made the kingdoms and realms unable to keep up with such activities.
What is known is that these movements ultimately achieved what we now take for granted in our continent, the professional armies and governments of our time. No longer are towns ruled by lords, no crowned heads rule over these lands. There are still those whose rise to power are based on nepotism and inherited wealth, however both in the armies and civil administration the rule to the top has become how much one can accomplish. Even those born out of the slums can become officers in the armies and officials in the cities, fortress and settlements are not gifts for an elite to receive and trade, much less to use in their wargames. The military conflicts have become such that the highest rate of casualties in battles are still in the lower ranks, however captured officers are expected to atone for their mistakes by either execution or sometimes lifelong imprisonment and disbarment from further service in the armed forces. The same extends to elected representatives that would cast their vote and influence behind wars, they are expected to bring about victory or suffer the same consequences they thrust upon the soldiers of their nations. No longer is the burden put solely on the weaker part of the societal hierarchy. This is obviously the fruit of centuries of struggle, however it's no exaggeration to say that one of the sparks for this was Randall, the man whose golden hound is still emblazoned in many flags and regimental banners to this day. For all the blood he shed and all the possible crimes he committed, history as taken him as a symbol of liberty and rebellion, of the power of the underclasses against a corrupt and nepotist elite.

In reality these Koifish series are ctually the story of Vunderfloof, the horse who served several Great, though somewhat crazy, Men.
