In today’s video documentary we will enter the fantastic world of Hummingbirds. Not many people outside of the Americas have ever seen a Hummingbird in the wild, unless they have visited the Americas. Myself, I’ve been very lucky to see a few different species in the wild, on my visits to different parts of Brazil. This is a 3 part video documentary and it contains some fantastic video clips of hummingbirds and a lot of information, so it is worth watching till the end.
This is my first attempt to make a 3 part video documentary and it has taken me over a week to put everything together just for part 1. Part 2 will follow in 2 weeks from the release of this first part and part 3 in another 2 weeks after part 2. This video contains a lot of interesting information about the Hummingbirds and a lot of nice video clips too. I normally don’t ask for this, but I would really appreciate if you would make a comment on this video. Hummingbirds are birds native to the Americas and comprise the biological family Trochilidae. With about 360 species, they occur from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, but the vast majority of the species are found in the tropics. They are small birds, with most species measuring 7.5-13 cm (3-5 inch) in length. The smallest extant hummingbird species is the 5 cm (2.0 inch) bee hummingbird, which weighs less than 2.0 g (0.07 oz). The largest hummingbird species is the 23 cm (9.1 inch) giant hummingbird, weighing 18-24 grams (0.63-0.85 oz). They are specialized for feeding on flower nectar, but all species also consume flying insects or spiders.
Hummingbirds split from their sister group, the swifts and treeswifts, around 42 million years ago. The common ancestor of extant hummingbirds is estimated to have lived 22 million years ago in South America. They are known as hummingbirds because of the humming sound created by their beating wings, which flap at high frequencies audible to humans. They hover in mid-air at rapid wing-flapping rates, which vary from around 12 beats per second in the largest species to around 80 per second in small hummingbirds. Of those species that have been measured during flying in wind tunnels, their top speeds exceed 15 m/s (54 km/h; 34 mph). During courtship, some male species dive from 30 metres (100 ft) of height above a female at speeds around 23 m/s (83 km/h; 51 mph).
Hummingbirds have the highest mass-specific metabolic rate of any homeothermic animal. To conserve energy when food is scarce and nightly when not foraging, they can go into torpor, a state similar to hibernation, and slow their metabolic rate to 1/15 of its normal rate.

I don't know why, but many people are coming to my channel, making a comment on my video, pretending that they watched, but when I check, they haven't watched the video at all or very little, as the view is not recognized by TH-cam. To the ones pretending to watch, but not watching enough for the view to be recognized by TH-cam (about 3 minutes), don't expect me to visit your channel. The same goes for the ones that tells me that they have subscribed, but in reality, never subscribe.
