I did read a fanfic in which he turns into a wolf yokai when he dies protecting her (as an effect of it happening when he is being very emotional plus his body being already full of spiritual energy due to Turbo Granny).
And given his girlfriend has miko powers and a short skirt, he has white hair with long nails like claws and shit... they are basically expies of Inuyasha and Kagome.
May explain why their romance just feels so natural.

We kinda did right at the end of the Danmara Arc. He'd gone all-out twice already but was forcing himself to endure it a 3rd time in a desperate attempt to kill the spirit that they were dealing with to save Momo's life.
