I understand somewhat the heritage bonus they receive. Ferrari's presence in Formula 1 along with its passionate Tifosi brings alot of ticket and merchandise sales for the sport. To me, it helps Ferrari maintain their presence in F1.
It is unclear what effect it will have to Formula 1 if Ferrari finally chooses to end their F1 racing program. It's a risk the FIA and FOM is not willing to gamble on. So many teams have come and gone in Formula 1, and yet Ferrari is still here. To think that Ferrari suffered financially, they never left the sport.
Ferrari is committed to F1 the way F1 is committed to Ferrari. It is mutual.

@@Jojo_Bee I don't understand the heritage bonus at all to be frank. Ferrari have always been looking for ways to get more money than the other teams since F1 started. They didn't show up to the first F1 race because they were not happy with the money offered. The only difference is today we call it a "heritage" payment. If Ferrari want more money they should build a fast car that can win a championship not rely on handouts for doing nothing.

All teams treated exactly the same (equal revenue share regardless of history or race finishes) or F1 will continue to struggle to field competitive teams, exciting races and consequently struggle for fans and revenue.
One of the first rules in any sport wanting to generate revenue (sponsorship, TV, ticket sales) is it is best to have as much as parity as possible so there is a spring in the step of all the fans headed to the race in anticipation of all the possible outcomes. There is little excitement in fans headed to the track knowing their team needs some farcical intervention like rain or tire degredation to have even the slightest hope.
Fans are far more likely to tune in when there is a reaonable expectation of their team having some success - this isn't to be confused with winning.
Consider football. The more likely a team can achieve at least a 500 record the more fan interest there is. I speak from experience as a former executive in pro sport.

Yourmom I never said I want a spec series. But if you want to make more level that’s really the only way. I would like to see driver skill mean more though. Max would champ this year no doubt. And Leclerc right there. Look at how much they are pulling out of those cars. I want to see them fighting for titles. And let’s face it. The car means more. George Russell’s top class talent is wasting away at Williams. I mean to play devils advocate to my own idea, it’s like if Kobe played his whole career putting up MVP number year after year and never had a team to win a title. You can compare that to Max always maximizing and then some to the car he’s driving. It’s just if people want it more competitive then you need to take away some things and make sacrifices. I feel this new concord agreement could very well work.

Toyota and Honda both failed, although Honda's role as an engine supplier was largely successful. It's genuinely hard to find team willing to enter due to the dynamics of the sport. It is expensive and over-regulated even with the budget cap.
I like to think of the bonus as a similar reason why Ronaldo and Messi get paid more- they're icons of our sport and people want to watch them. They both raise the TV value of their respective leagues and increase attendance- Barcelona games are always full of tourists. In F1, Ferrari easily add the largest value to the TV deal and bring in the most money from merchandise and generally bring in the most fans. Ferrari could do this to any racing series. @@OfflineSetup the only reason Ferrari hasn't left yet is italian law :)
I'll explain myself: Ferrari, as a motorsport team, is huge, and by that i mean that it has more personnel and facilities than most of the rest of the grid combined, a relic of when you couldn't do most things on a PC, but needed armies of designers, engineers and workers to build a car.
Now, facilities wouldn't be a problem, just close them, or repurpose them, the problem is with personnel: the italian law forbids mass termination of contracts for restructuring. you, as a company, have either to demonstrate validity and most likely pay a ton of compensations, or reassign them to other branches of your company, and that would cause a massive surplus of workforce for Ferrari.
That's the reason why they're exploring other championships with the budget cap of the next regulations in F1, because they have to employ surplus workers somehow, and the most natural avenue is another, similar, championship, like IndyCar or the WEC.
And that's why I say that if they (the F1 organization) remove Ferrari privileges, Ferrari will most likely leave the championship: at that point just terminating everyone's contract and pay compensations would be more economically sound than continuing a championship losing money every year

Worst deal in Uncle Bernie’s career - giving Ferrari “veto power”. Bad form, Unc, bad form.

There is no other sport where a mediocre team gets a financial reward for just showing up regardless of performance. Veto power? What a joke.

Ferrari getting a massive bonus payment, an extra bonus payment and veto power isn't 'prestige', it's corruption. Just because you're old doesn't mean you deserve to have a massively unfair advantage over literally everyone else.
