I'm here because Shooter McGavin posted the Jurassic Park theme on X and the horns in the orchestra had an extra loop in them that was unfamiliar to me. Thank you for this video. I was handed a Conn 8D at 14 years old that was still wrapped in plastic inside the case - brand new - for high school band. I played it for four years, and I'll remember opening that case forever.
An old master horn maker once told me that the design from the Vienna horn came from the Necronomicon. He showed me pictures and everything. I even saw a listing on ebay once for one created by an enslaved demon who's name knows no description. Very beautiful instrument. Smells slightly of sulfur and brimstone. Wonderful overtones.
Hello Anneke, Always enjoy your videos. I wonder if you have any experience with Herr Jungwirth's double horn? A fascinating design and am told it plays beautifully.
Hello there! Glad you're enjoying these videos - I've not yet had the chance to play Jungwirth's double horn design. I'm a great fan of his natural horns and really like this Vienna horn so would like to try his double when I get a chance!
@@AnnekeScott I have one of his double horns and love it. It is my primary horn, though I am not a pro. I owned an Engel Wienerhorn for many years and hope to get one of Andreas' sometime soon. Thanks for posting these.
Here's one I made earlier! th-cam.com/video/9CruYCtxnWM/w-d-xo.html Not on a Vienna horn but on my late 19th century Bopp rotary horn in B flat. I chose this one as it's quite close in design to the instrument Franz Strauss played on (which you can read about here: www.pizka.de/fstrau2.htm)

That's absolutely brilliant - what a wonderful route here! Thanks for letting me know!
Excellent presentation, many thanks from a "regular" horn player!
My pleasure!
A Vienna Valve French Horn. It's a Single Horn with Vienna Valves (Double Piston Valves).

Wow! And you didn't bid on it? I suppose it could be a very dangerous thing?
Have you ever tried a Horn with Stolzel valves?
Yes! I've got a nice two valve instrument - you can find it here: th-cam.com/video/GB3knvZ4ZiI/w-d-xo.html

@@MagicDuel Ohhh - I really ought to try one of his doubles some day!
@@AnnekeScott please, make a video of it when you'll have the chance to try it! Let us know how they are :)
@@AFGalopp Would love to if the opportunity arises!
Can you do the Siegfried on a Wiener horn?

@@AnnekeScott Brilliant!
Nice French horn
Vienna Horn, not French horn. Two differnet horn types.
'French horn' is usual in English. In German, we only say 'Horn'.
