I think this strategic pause will make BRICS stronger in the future, as one of the most important latest political changes this year is the DA getting a foothold in SA government. The BRICS main players, Russia and China, want to move forward cautiously after that development because both these two major countries will keep their agreements once they are made and they don't want to make new agreements with new potential members that might want to change boats midstream.
Many countries from the west or ones that are influenced by the west like to move the goalposts when the agreement stops benefiting them at the expense of the party they made the original agreement with by: 1) blatantly flouting the agreement, e.g. like what is happening in west Asia or like the UK keeping Venezuela's gold reserves, broken treaties with Indigenous peoples, or 2) those western countries and their allies will try to economically strangle other countries by trying to cut off trade to them.
Colonizers like to think and act like colonizers when they are doing the colonizing but will cry "foul" when someone pushes back against their system.

I think a lot of the countries probably want to join BRICS for 2 things, access to loans beyond the IMF and world bank (which charge terrible rates and historically keep making demands once you cannot pay back), access to the de-dollarization structure the BRICS is building.
The BRICS themselves could very well open up this 2 portions without adding members willy nilly so it makes sense for them to put adding new members on hold. The bloc procedures and processes never defined voting rights and such for large numbers of countries and in particular, the original countries (particularly india) probably do not want their rights diluted without some sort of compensation

As a (relatively) poor American (without $100k+ invested in my country's global hegemony) I do greet this as a relief, but not for the same reasons as the Americans who want the dollar to continue as the world reserve currency. In the long-run, I welcome the rise in power of these BRICS+ countries, but hopefully this will give the USA time to consider an alternative to "dollar bills" as our main export. Along with Ben Norton's "Geopolitical Economy Report", this channel has convinced me that "dollar imperialism" is bad for everyone--poorer countries and also poorer Americans.
If Donald Trump gets elected in November, and if my country turns its baleful gaze away from Russia and towards China and Iran, I can only hope Russia will remember who its true allies are, so that this BRICS+ alternative won't disappear..

    Hi Lena,
I totally agree. Russia and China both have some of the wisest and best foreign diplomats in the world. You can bet a lot of thought is going into guaranteeing the long term survival of BRICS and I think that this decision should actually be taken by the smaller countries who are now on the wait list as one of a strategic protection measure with their countries best interests at the forefront.
As they would know and is obvious by the present and the historical war mongering of the west that the USA govt using their many security agencies will stop at nothing and no one to sabotage the BRICS coalition from all directions inside and out. And they will start with who they will see as the easiest countries to interfere with and corrupt first and those will be those with the smallest population smallest economy with the weakest defence against their bully stand over tactic influence.
Once China , Russia and their allies have taken the wind out of the U.S. and the Wests sails it will be safer for those smaller countries to join in the meantime I would think their backs will still be getting watched as a show of support .

They do not need to suspend it. They need to slow down the process of inclusion in order to scrutinize the pros and cons of specific countries to better serve the interests of BRICS not just in the immediate conjecture but in the long run as well. Pin down the core of the BRICS agenda and set the conditions for which their inclusion won't backfire at BRICS expansions.

  • @hizstory1813

Taking a "pause" is a good thing. The organization must be agile enough to CLOSE THE DOOR on regime changes with minimal disruption. In the meantime continue to implant financial "infrastructure" worldwide , Even in the US. They can't just "lock out" the dollar but must be able to sell the dollars.

  • @finnolsen4754

Expansion for the sake of expansion is probably not a good idea. It will be wiser for BRICS to consolidate and sort out the problems and challenges that are already there. First of all make an end to the long standing dispute between India and China. How can BRICS move forward if the two largest member states are at loggerheads?

I am not an expert but I have seen what the Euro has done to Europe, most specifically to Germany. Germany's economy suffered dramatically and they still do in high taxes paid to what amounts to a redistribution plan on a social and economic level to very weak countries such as Romania and bulgaria. They chose quantity over quality and ended up watering down the entire soup so that now everybody's coming to the same level, which is a downward spiral.
Brics, I suspect, has put a halt to building quantity and wants to keep those within the block and the block itself strong in reality and not only in numbers.
They are not replicating the mistakes of the europeans.

This is yet unclear. BRICS could add in a multi-tiered membership: observer status, dialogue partner and full-membership, similar to what exists for the SCO. This would make membership more flexible while allowing repect and appreciation to be shown for nations that have already applied. We'll see in October.

    • @jaykalifestyles

I believe each member should be a member with full participation and rights. It should not mimic the United Nations with their permanent and non-permanent members. No two or three tier membership. Equal membership for all. Let everyone have equal membership status. It is demeaning and insulting to invoke a type of class status to members, who are hoping for a more balanced system that will fairly listen, represent, and address the issues of all participants.

They already announced their intention of not excepting new members this year a few months back, then it went quiet. It's probably in response to Argentina's withdrawal and the long delays in ratification of some countries who were offered invitations after they applied, showing a lack of commitment. Generally they should give a time limit on the invitations like one year period and exempt them from reapplying again for another one for 5 years. Even after they join they can leave in which case a 10 year exclusion if they want to rejoin. They probably should give out observation status to interested parties anyways to test out their sincerity before giving out invitations.

BRICS+ FM counsel collective decision on establishing partnership country status for whoever country a)expresses interest to join, and b)must receive unanimously agreed by all member states before becoming full-fledged member is a calibrated move for two reasons; firstly, seeking quality outweighs quantity in membership expansion, and secondly to formulate concrete policies and stipulations for organization governance whilst the scale and scope of membership state is still limited yet representable to boost a more efficient and focused decision-making process.

They are setting up hierarchy, besides bricks already controlling majority of different aspects, smart move, when big box moves into the market they undercut competition then next stage is to recuperate, maybe that’s where we are at. Great video with great insight as always, thank you ❤❤❤

I can understand that this BRICS alliance is so popular in this time we live in and many countries are willing to jump omboard very easily. Now the original BRICS countries have to revaluate and thoroughly process all these new countries alliances with "the other side". They have to check the "new" prospects wich alliances and political connections they have before just letting everyone omboard. BUT, this shows the willingness of a lot of countries to change their partners in trade and security. The sane countries wants to get away from the west´s insane politics and "democracy".
    Great presentation as allways!

Having India, Russia, and China all in the group is important. I don't think it's likely that India would ever get expelled from BRICS.

This action may be bullish for gold and silver if they are part of the requirements for certain reserve levels in order to join.

In other words, it is an overwhelming success until they need to pull the brakes and think of governance framework (next phase) before speeding ahead
