Paula and Kim were hard workers in the industry and they both deserved so much more. Saw The Pandoras three times (one pre Kim) and just loved them, especially Paula, who would mingle with the audience. She was so down to Earth. They deserved so much better. The 80s were a great, great time and now that I'm no longer living in LA (I'm in the Midwest) it seems like another lifetime ago.
Kim was a very able bass player, plus she was totally 60's looking back in '85 and '86. She actually liked all the Pandoras music even when Gwynne was in the band. All the members famously hated Paula's last 18 months of songs, though--things like "Injection of You," "River," and such that can be heard on full length videos from the clubs.
I remeber my uncle and aunt listening to this songs when they were young and I was a little kid. Now I accidentally stumbled upon this video. Fantastic!! Fond memories from my early childhood
I saw them on tour for their first album in a tiny bar. Maybe 100 dudes all packed up to the little stage. I do rember Paula giving one of her rings to one of the fans during the show. Bought the album the nest day.
Sometimes music like this is just what the doctor prescribed. I shouldn't be surprised, but I am in wonder of how I never heard of this group. They've got a lot of attitude and style. Good stuff!
This singer sounds a lot like "Cassandra" (Tia Carrere) character and her "singing style". You know, from the band "Crucial Taunt" in Wayne's World? Does anyone remember that? 👀
Damn... One of those great albums you've never heard before.. Never heard of the band either, but it really sounds great! "What I Need and What I Don't" could have gotten some airplay. Great vocals!!!
Same, and I'm almost surprised that I've never heard of them. Despite being from Norway, I was trying to keep up with these bands. These guys are so good, I'm shocked they flew under the radar for this long. Really good stuff. The vocalist is great.
I just rediscovered them. I heard them in my teens with some songs. They are great and with great style. I like them very much. I'm sure they're still this beautiful and very artistic. They are very good songs, thank you very much
They are great with incredible style. Paula wrote some fantastic songs. Sadly, Paula passed away in 1991 from an aneurysm at 31, and sadly, Kim passed away in 2019 from ALS. Both were amazingly talented and are deeply missed. The Pandoras are still active with long time members Melanie, Sheri, Karen and Hillary.
@@xPrincessPandora There's 3 existing Pandoras who play semi-regularly in Los Angeles. Julie, the '84 bass player is around still, but doesn't play with them. When they do songs like "You Don't Satisfy" you can still feel the beat at least that we all heard in the small LA clubs years ago. Karen Blankfeld was the drummer who created that pop-based Pandoras sound, and she's up there on stage still. Melanie Vammen was the first girl chosen to be a Pandoran after the first LP line up dissolved. She's on stage today as well. Of course, you can't see the blonde, chairismatic star of everything, Paula, but she was elusive even when alive. Paula grabbed ALL the attention. The heart of R'nR burned brightly inside her.
I don't know how in the world this managed to get recommended to my TH-cam feed. You know it's good though, when Shazam does not recognize any of the songs LOL!
excelente grupo de nenas rock and roleras combinando el punk-rock con el rock and roll-melodico y 10 años después surgen otro grupo muy influenciado llamada the Donnas
Hope someone officially releases this soon! (It would make a GREAT Record Store Day item!) Right now a Discogs dealer is selling a test-pressing for $500!
That's how much we paid for Kim's copy of the test pressing back in June 1991. Kim used the money to buy more amps since hers weren't surviving The Muffs live shows. I probably was the first fan to buy a test pressing as Rodney was given his as a gift. I think only 5 were ever made. I had circulated a treble (all the bass was deliberately bled out by the owner) copy of the Elektra record during 1987 as it was already done that year. THEN, when I finally got a fully hi-fi version, I also circulated cassettes of those to whoever was interested. Then in '94, me and Greg Shaw joined up to release "Psychedelic Sluts" -- that was just to please me b/c there couldn't be any dollar value in doing so. Yet, now that copy also goes for $250.00 or something ridiculously high.
What an explosive revelation, for me, anyway !!! I'm totally mystified at the info here 😮😮😮 . Little did I know all the legal hassles regarding Karen and the Elektra guy. I had no idea of anything and the album itself. Sccoop !!!!😮😮
never heard of this band till now. Great songs well delivered. How come they weren't really big? Not often my concentration lets me listen to an entire album in one go...this has me locked in. Words are a biit rude though!
Subtle but effective. Elektra screwed the band and the whole world botching this release but sounds like they liked it. 😆 Singer sounds like Belinda Carlisle. I can't believe The Donnas never covered any of these songs. Right up their alley. 🔥🙌
Damn, we know the music biz sucks and this is another sad example. Tragic story, hate hearing about good bands getting dropped from labels before they even have a chance to really prove themselves. Some good songs on here, great harmony vocals and good guitar work. Yeah they remind me a bit of the Donna's who've always been a favorite of mine. I'm from Palo Alto too and went to the same junior high, although way before. Yeah, they were doing their own writing obviously but they could've covered a tune or two of Pandora's.
This was going to be their major label debut album. Even though this isn’t their usual garage punk sound, I still love it. If you want garage punk listen to their other albums “It’s About Time” and “Stop Pretending”.

Girl band whose name refers to a 'box" releases an album called "Come Inside". The 80s.
Not sure that was worth the stretch.
@@aodhablackheart Not sure that was worth your response.
It's been a while since I was so excited to hear an artist for the first time
These girls were a lot of fun. They toured and did the LA club scene in the '80's. Had a great time working with them.
I remeber my uncle and aunt listening to this songs when they were young and I was a little kid. Now I accidentally stumbled upon this video. Fantastic!! Fond memories from my early childhood

Los Angeles hard rock/garage rock legends.

Thank You for sharing and the very cool history in the text, Ty
Best unrealised rock-album. It would be the shining diamond of glamour age. But unfortunately could not happen. Kim and Pierce were queens
Craving kicks ass, what a good song
Kim!! rest in peace. and Melanie!!
Melanie is still alive , Paula Pierce you mean
Melanie is touring with Josie Cotton.
Don’t tell Melanie that 😮
Amazing!!!!!!!!!. Never heard of these beauties till now. Definitely my band ot 2024.🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍😊😊❤💙💚❤💙💛🧡💛🧡🏅🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁
Still have the "Psychedelic Sluts" bootleg. Brilliant. They should have had more recognition.
PAULA, you are edgy and on the crest of a new wave with all those guitar sounds. Respect!
