Wentz may have the bigger arm, but Heinicke has the pocket awareness and mobility that Wentz doesn't.
He also has that football iq/awernass
No matter what happens in the future, he gave Washington Football Nation everything he had. He should be proud, even if he never takes another NFL snap, he exceeded all expectations.

Well, you’re about to have this wish bud. Heinicke is about to start against Greenbay next week. He gets his rematch. He looses the better O-line protection he had last season BUUUT he’s upgraded on WR talent. Boy better show out those scrambling skills cause he’s not gonna have the same protection and time in the pocket he had last season PLUS, he’s gonna be going into just about every 2nd half trailing by a TD or 2. Let’s just pray his catch-up game has improved.

I feel like Washington Fans (myself included) would be happy with whatever season as long as Heinicke is our quaterback. He is just so fun to watch and he should be the future of this franchise.

The fact that the team managed to go 7-10 with him at QB even with all the banged up injuries tells you the team should just stick with Taylor Heincke. The franchise has mostly won Super Bowl's with game management QB's. They should continue to build up the roster.
Doug Williams and Mark Rypien were deep downfield throwers. Game management for those teams was done by running backs and dominant O-lines

Heinike has the ability to be a great quarterback what he needs is play caller that understands how to call plays for him and the running backs and the entire offense
Heinicke made the season interesting and thrilling at times. I'm a full Heinicke supporter and hope he can stick around in the league as a backup for years to come, or really up his game to earn a starting spot.
Love Heinicke man hope he gets starter reps in the off-season and greatly improved his game. Retire here

I was really rooting for him. He lacks high level, professional Quarterback arm strength but he is a Baller with guts, heart and excellent pocket presence. He would be a world class backup and I hope he sticks around for a long time.
I have to add -- ANY Quarterback would have had an uphill battle in DC this season. Samuel was out half the year. Tez and Chase went out. The defense was straight up explosive diarrhea for 2 months. He got limited 1st team reps all off season. Covid, McKissic etc..
These are not excuses. Just stating the facts. Aaron Rodgers would have struggled in Washington in 2021.
Disagree. Rodgers wud have made the othr recievers tight ends backs around him better with better anticipated throws and more opportunities at decently thrown balls. More run after catch etc....how many times did we see terry slow up for an underthrown pass that cud have been a td with more air and touch. We need a qb. Heinicke is a great backup

Better late than never. He still has a shot to earn his spot as a starter in this league, I'm positive he's worth the effort.

I still think Taylor has the making of a franchise qb we need a healthy team and an ACTUAL OFFSEASON WITH FIRST TEAM REPS to even count it. Point blank: If you can't find a way to build around him I think you're failing as coaches, and I hope another franchise scoops him up, no more fake qb competitions please. It's unrealistic to think we can keep Heinicke as a backup past next season - he's gonna get paid at least 15mil after next year by somebody. He's still better than too many starters, just needs more time. Pretty sure Theismann had to fight to be a starter for like a year or two, and it took him 4 years after that to take them to the Superbowl. Assuming they updated his stats already he's at 65% completion rate for the season which is fine (and he was trending towards higher when we had players healthy). Too much fell apart on both sides of the ball on all accounts for this to be a solid assessment in my eyes. Defense sucked the first half of the season and then things started falling apart and players going down to covid after our win streak. If you can't see that he's the one keeping plays alive when it's all going to hell then idk what to tell you, he just needs to get more comfortable and be more confident, it's not like he can't outplay the best there is. I think our playbooks can change to support a more impromptu playstyle. I think the last drive vs Tampa was all you need to know or see in what this team can and should be on offense. I don't think any other qb could have led that drive, period.

I don’t know if the problem is Turner’s ability as an OC, or Heinicke’s limitations as an NFL QB.
I’m comfortable with seeing another franchise paying him $15m.
I respect the guy’s effort, but his production seems like a level of play that you could live with… but I can’t see him leading a team avg 27+ PPG. Seems like an offense based on impromptu play isn’t the route to go vs high level guys who can get it done in all situations. Herbert last night in Vegas gave his team a chance to win with multiple 3rd/4th and long scenarios, and just delivered strikes.
With 5 yrs, Heinicke’s not doing anything on that level.

@@PayMeNoMind Heinicke had a rushed and less than perfect situation with no first team reps in the offseason, you're clearly just looking up when he was first in, rather than how many games he actually played in. It was for all intents and purposes his rookie season - and he outplayed a lot of players and was in the running for the pro bowl. He finished #19 overall in passing yards, 65% completion percentage and trending up (some games 80%+) (Herbert was 65.9% for the season, only 2 spots up), 85.9 passer rating - regularly going over 100 when he's on point: and a lot of first draft rookies had worse stats (Fields, Lawrence, etc). And still better than the likes of Sam Darnold, etc. Heinicke led WAS to a couple of wins with over 30 points early on in the season. We lost a lot of key pieces on offence that if this was DAL I guarantee Skip Bayless would be crying all season about how Heinicke had one arm tied behind his back because of how many players were out. He did more with less, and he far outperformed his stats for the season. That WAS did as well as they did until the end of the season where they just lost to attrition speaks well of them. Herbert is a different style of player - and honestly Heinicke outplayed him that game and we would have won if not for a fumble or if they actually started him instead of Fitz. A lot of close losses in games. If the team actually builds around him I think we'll be alright - if it's always impromptu then it means the plans aren't working very well in the first place and need adapted. Heinicke led the best drive ever against TB for like 10.5 mins, not on what level? He's clearly capable of duking it out with any qb, he just needs more time as a starter and we need more pieces on both sides of the ball that are healthy - we lost to injuries and covid. I don't know if Rivera was calling all the plays in the TB game but we need to play like that all the time instead of forcing the ball downfields and being scared of checkdowns. Heinicke needs to work on his deep ball to be anything like Favre, but until then he's the hardest to tackle qb in the league and he has some of the best fakes/options I've seen and I think we need to rely on more misdirection and switch up how the game is played a little bit. More like the Harlem Globetrotters/Monkey in the Middle instead of playing like a cookie cutter team. Herbert is the old style of cookie cutter qb - Peyton Manning-esque. There's nothing wrong with that, he's great, it's just way different and the times are changing in my opinion. Idk if Herbert is enough of a leader to take the Chargers to the playoffs past a game or two whereas I think Heinicke can overcome the odds and take the helm way better than most if allowed: he does better in high pressure situations. Herbert is a lot easier to read/to figure out than Heinicke, so I think he will have difficulties next season. Heinicke has a great 3rd/4th down conversion rate when the team needs it, though - we just need actual players healthy on offense. We struggled after losing Mckissic, especially: he was the workhorse of our offense. If you ask diehards on the offense most will say we needed to run the ball more and generally better playcalling, and also a lot falls on Heinicke to perform better. I think if it was any other rookie we'd be impressed, but people like having an age bias or whatever.
I don't blame Taylor for the L's yes he made his mistake but it wasn't just him a lot of the time the Defence was missing in games why I think it's the head coach. But it was a team L not just him so I hope he can stay and work on the just throwing the ball up httr

If CW is out for the next month & a half. It’s no question 4 starts over Howell. TH is competent enough to keep us in contention IMO. We as fans have to rally around him, because it’s already a civil war about who should start we need to get behind whoever starts next Sun vs GB.

For a guy lacking an arm he sure does throw some darts
People seem to forget even though he has been in the league for a few years this is pretty much his rookie year as a full time starter. He wasn't perfect but my no means but he wasn't terrible. If Carson starts to struggle I hope he gets better and takes back his starting job. The kid has some swag about him that you just can't help to wanna see him succeed.
Wentz will Wentz, I just hope it's early enough in the season to make a difference.

All Heinecke needs to do EVERY offseason for the rest of his career is work on strengthening his right arm and do accuracy drills. THAT'S IT!!!
If Taylor had Wentz arm strength he'd be a top 10 QB in the NFL easily. The guy has the playmaking ability that you cannot teach. He's tough and has more heart than most. That said he is the perfect backup for Washington. I trust him coming off the bench when needed.
There are no great Qbs in the draft
Stick woth this kid and get some receivers who can spread that field more.
We have had 31 different QBs in the last 30 years. Stick it out with him he has some things to work on but i think he will be fine.

Heinicke is criminally underpaid he signed to Washington on a 4.75 mil two year contract meaning he’s making about 2.35mil a year meanwhile they picked up Carson Wentz along with a 28.5mil contract against the cap in 1 year alone and honestly I bet you Heinicke plays more games than Wentz

Bruh unless Dashaun falls into our laps Taylor needs to be the starter next year. This was his first full season and he ain’t look half bad, inconsistency was exspected but he for sure don’t look like no backup in my opinion, we was decimated on off. Give him some more weapons like Logan and let him develops a little more and Taylor can go tf off next season
I’ll take Heinickes heart, grit and maturity and leadership and play making over Watsons talent any day. Don’t need his baggage coming to our organization with everything going on with cleaning up the organizations image from past seasons. Don’t need to trade away our future to get him with Texans ridiculous asking price either! Taylor any day of the week and twice on Sunday! People saying he was the problem are blind! Franchise QB with elite arms and Taylor’s intangibles don’t grow on trees! He’ll get better with experience and a healthy and better complete supporting cast around on both sides of the ball.. we’re close... this isn’t the dumpster fire people have made it out to be... we had a lot of misfortunate circumstances steal our season and playoffs from us. People are tired of all the past dumpster fire seasons and losing. We need to be patient with this young core of players... few tweaks and added high level competition at a few positions and were gonna be tough to beat, even by ourselves. We don’t need to blow this up, but build around players like Taylor! Get him another legit WR to be our two that is capable of being a one. Solidify the line with an elite player and add more depth and an middle linebacker and elite playmaker to the secondary and we will be where we want to be!

Like I said in my other comments Heineke or Sam gives the Commanders a better chance to win because of their scrambling abilities to keep offensive drives alive and possibly score touchdowns

Just had a thought that could have some truth to it. Ryan Fitzpatrick signed a one year deal for $10 million. I want to say the guarantee was $6 million. So all in all, he got $6 million for 1 quarter of football with WFT. Now the kicker is that he got injured off the field before the first game. He aggravated that off field injury in the first game. So did he Haynesworth us? Fact is, we won't ever see Fitz here in any capacity. He's a Buffalo fan.

I think Heinicke will arrive at some point. I just think there are some issues if defenses play him a certain way. His arm strength and lack of quick twitch throwing make it a challenge. Especially on developing routes and breakdowns. And if the defense take away Taylor's ability to escape the pocket, he rarely kills the play by throwing it out of bounds. He's hell bent on "making a play" even when its not there. Sometimes it works. Sometimes its a disaster. I'm not saying he should play like Alex. But some aspects of Alex's game would benefit Taylor. BTW, we had a winning record with Alex at QB. Just sayin'. To me, there is something to be said about patience. And until Heinicke is not looking to make a 17 point play or make a way where there is clearly nothing there, he'll provide excitment and absolute agony every sunday.
