Micaela Grei is a dedicated selector and half of the Loose Leaf Collective. Her music is simply about beauty in difference. There is no genre restriction here and Loose Leaf go far and wide to bring mind-expanding jazz, enthralling fusion work and outstanding instrumentals to their listeners. Although most of her sound stems from her time spent living in brazil, her set centres around acid jazz, mo wax and many gems released under Gilles Peterson. so welcome to space funk and cosmic jazz beats as coined by Time Warp Records circa 1999.

'member when Acid Jazz was da shit? That hammering piano on Mambito did the trick and I HAD to go and get a certain box with records out of the basement (dont judge me! things happen when you get older *sigh* ). SO many goodies, I simply dont listen to anymore. The only ones i still had in the shelf were The Peoples Tree and the first BNH, I mean srsly: i had not listend to Mondo Grosso or Snowboy or Quintessense &c in friggin years.

All this great music you dropped was what I and many of my generation would dance to in the early 1980s in London’s Camden Town at The Electric Ballroom in a tiny room upstairs.
In fact this genre became so underground and popular with a chosen few that we would go on to dance in a place called The Horseshoe pub upstairs in a smoke filled dark room and the place came to be known as ‘’Jaffas’’ That was in London’s Tottenham Court road next tot he Dominion theatre.
Along came The Green man pub behind London’s Oxford street and the 100 Club which came before all I mentioned and Spats in Oxford street.
Just a few of the obscure underground jazz dance clubs in the late 70s to mid 80s…

Now I really do have to get out my vinyl starting with that Dexter Wansel track followed by Galaxian by Jeff Lorber Fusion, another that you omitted from your fine selection!
