I fell in love with this anime almost from the start. I've watched other Japanese anime, but nothing compares to Banana Fish. These characters are real and we feel for them. I've read a lot of reviews about it at Amazon, but no one ever mentions crying over it. What were they feeling? I enjoyed watching the friendship between Ash and Eiji grow. Unconditional love at the bottom of it. I shed my share of tears over this. Amazing what an anime can do to a person!!!
This anime was one of the diamonds that exist. Not because of the animation because of the plot and reality it has. It shows people that not every story ends happily. I cry and cry every time when I see banana fish. It makes me realize that there are people that have a more worse life than mine. So never think negative always be positive try to think a way out from your problems, before you lose things that you value. Before it's too late. Because it's your life, it's your own story and you write it.
I can't be mad at Ash because he didn't go to the hospital after being stabbed ... Do you know why? because I think he already wanted to rest from everything, his life was fine at that time thanks to Eiji and everything that he lived with him before. I think he no longer wanted to fight and I understand, his past has played a very important part and he must have been tired... Eiji was already safe, he no longer had to worry about anyone or anything else. (I'm sorry if there is any spelling mistake, English is not my native language ^^ ")
Whyy !! Why the end is so sad 😭 why did ash die !! He don't deserve to die! he's like a kid who see the sun for the first time, I'll never forget this anime! Never
bananafish.tv/special/relation/?story=24 This is the link for the official Website and the picture from death charakter are gray but the picture from ash in episode 24 is in colour so it must not be that he is death (and sorry for my englisch but i hope you now what i mean 😅)
God it’s been 4 months and I’m still crying over it. No anime will ever affect me the same as Banana Fish did. It’s become my favorite anime of all time and I don’t think I’ll ever find an anime that will replace that spot. It’s truly a hidden gem and it’s upsetting to see people not watch because of the relationship between Ash and Eiji, which is not what the anime is completely revolved around. It’s about Ash and how his world is corrupted and anything he does he can’t escape from it. Eiji is there because he is Ash’s safe place. The character development in the characters is astounding and beautiful. From the start, you already feel so connected with characters like when Skipper died, I was really sad because I already loved his character from the first episode. Almost every episode will leave you in tears and I don’t think I’ll be able to find another anime like that. This anime is so fantastic and it needs more attention.
Almost five years have passed since this anime broke me for life and I'm watching this a few hours before 2024 comes rolling in. This pain will never go mostly because of the cruel reality we live in and nothing has changed. Ash and his story is a symbol of so many kids whose life has been uprooted. The hope we have for a better future is not settling in because we there are savages out there who shoot our dreams. :( Ash is a symbol of that stabbed dream.
To everyone, ash was fearless, invincible... A true wild beast, this is the legacy he left behind. But he was actually a very hurt and bruised human and just when he was learning to feel human emotions, time and time again he had it snatched away from him, forcefully. Until the very end he had nothing left in him... This is ash's legacy, without his gang, skipper, shorter.... Without eji....
I’m back after rewatching Banana Fish for the first time for the one year anniversary of the last episode. Even after a year I don’t think I’ll ever get over Ash’s death. As much as we didn’t want that to be the outcome for him, it was destined. From the start, Ash was always associated with violence and blood and there’s was no way he could ever escape from that. Even if he ended up with Eiji, he’d still suffer from the nightmares that wake him up every night, trauma for killing Shorter, all the blood on his hands, those are wounds that will never heal. Ash has gone through so much that I don’t blame him for just wanting to end it all. He died knowing that Eiji would no longer be involved in his mistakes and problems and that he was finally free from his rape traumas, gang violence, and everything that caused him pain. Ash would no longer have people he cared for die because of him. Does it hurt knowing that Eiji never gets over Ash even when he’s with Sing? Or that Eiji continuously thinks about Ash after 7 years? It sure hurts like hell but I don’t see a better ending to Banana Fish than what Akimi Yoshida has given us, so thank you Yoshida for giving this wonderful piece of work that permanently damaged all of us.
Ash's struggles really tore at my heart. How can a 16 year old deal with so much trauma, yet not break under it. Im so glad that Ash had the opportunity to meet Eiji. They were soulmates. No one helped Ash as much as Eiji did and in turn, Ash helped Eiji loose his naivety. There story was perfect and my heart will always cry for Ash😭😭😭😭
Besides the ending, the scene that gets me the most is when Ash pleads to God and collapses asking God to take him instead. Wow I can never make it through that without sobbing
Ash deserved something better 😭 really deserved My child suffered too much harm from a young age he really deserved happiness more than anyone else. I'm always going to believe it was unfair that he bled to death in the library😭😭💔
Japanese is poor English Edit is excellent! It is the best in mad of bananafish that I watched so far! I think that this end is the only way in which ash is saved, so I know that the end is a happiest thing for me it's too hot.
yk what i cant even be mad at the ending because it was ash’s choice. he wanted to rest. which is understandable with how shitty his life is. like if this show was real, then he wouldnt be suffering anymore and would finally be happy yk? so i cant rlly be mad at how it ended, but only bc ik it was ash’s choice :’(

The sick thing is, Ash's prayer was answered. He was taken instead. Not immediately, but I just realized it was in fact answered.
