The defendant says the phone was a gift. He claims the plaintiff shut the phone down because she’s jealous of his new friends and says he owes nothing.

I had a friend in need of a phone bc she was a single mom& walked to work, but... I only bought her a $40 phone@ walmart,& a pay per month phonecard of $35.
That was it!, After that, it was up to her to buy another phone card if she wanted her minutes to continue,& she did, w/out my help.

That is the best way to help a friend, give them a leg up and guide them on their journey. Doing all the work for them is bound to end in heartbreak.

🙌 👏🏽 good on you! Best piece of advice i ever got as a young adult: Loaning money (or "loaning" your credit) is the quickest way to lose a friend/family relationship, don't do it. Never loan any amount of money that you can't afford to see again. If someone asks you for a loan and you decide to loan money, just give it away. Give it with the view that it'll never be repaid, that way if you are repaid, you are pleasantly surprised. If not, you are already knew it wasn't getting repaid and no one gets mad. If someone asks me for money, like 100.00+, if i feel like it, i say, "gosh, i don't have that much money to lend but i can just GIVE you $20 (or $50.00) towards your problem, here, take it and you don't have to pay it back. Hope it works out. 💕"

That's actually not true. I gave away my son's iPhone XR when he switched to Android. He didn't want it anymore and I didn't feel like trying to sell it, so I decided to be charitable. Gave it to a poor kid at his school who didn't have a phone.
