Alissa White-Gluz is 39, but still looks really young. Her first band The Agonist was formed in 2004. She joined Arch Enemy in 2014 when their previous female vocalist Angela Gossow stepped down to spend more time with family and manage the band and recommended Alissa as her replacement. I love both singers. Angela was just a growler in Arch Enemy but Alyssa does clean and growls. She did more cleans with The Agonist and she does growls the majority of the time with Arch Enemy. Most of the band is currently Swedish although their last two second guitarists were American (Jeff Loomis and now Joey Concepcion). Angela is German and Alissa is Canadian. Another fun fact, if you watch Nightwish's "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours" the show before Floor took over lead singer duties on their 2013 American tour Alissa White-Gluz and Elize Ryd (singer for Amaranthe) had to take over vocal duties when NW singer Anette Olzon got sick and went to the hospital. The only reason Alissa and Elize happened to be there is they were doing vocals for the opening band Kamelot. There, I just gave you two more excellent bands to check out, Amaranthe and Kamelot. 😃

I really loved Arch Enemy around 2003 when Angela joined the band. I didnt even know Michael from Carcass formed Arch Enemy until their 4th album. And after 2 or 3 albums, I just kinda fell out of it. But holy smokes, Alissa has been bringing the heat on the last 3 albums and I'm refreshed. Been checking out the later stuff. Pre-ordered this album and am glad I came back to them. Michael, the guitarist, is a phenomenal musician. He started in Carnage in the late 80s. Then joined Carcass on their 2 most successful albums and then formed these guys. His brother was in Arch Enemy for years and I guess he stepped down.

Look up the lyrics it may help you understand it. They talk about having hopes and dreams taken away. The cross wasn't actually upside down the camera was. I think the video gives the feeling of being in a dream state. We all know how crazy our dreams can be.
Check out Arch Enemy Deceiver, Deceiver

I am not usually a big fan of Black Metal or Death Metal but I do love Arch Enemy because they are a Melodic Death Metal band so you get some pretty epic melodic guitar riffs and solo's. Check out The Eagle Fly's Alone (song about personal empowerment and standing up to those who would control you, beautiful music video) and Handshake with Hell (song about the need for action to make the world a better place or accept a "Handshake with Hell", also beautiful, non Satanic music video) I don't think they are Satanic. Alyssa is a very sweet person, a vegan and active supporter of animal rights (not that being those means your not evil). I think in this song they use some dark imagery to further the idea of the nightmare of people stealing your dreams, i.e. your hopes and motivation for a better future.
Alyssa does a lot of collaborations with other bands/musicians. Check out The Wolf You Feed with Nita Strauss. Nita is a fantastic guitarist. Her day gig is as lead guitarist for Alice Cooper and she was the first female signature guitarist for Ibanez with her signature JIVA guitar.

And much like Tatiana from Jinger, she has a beautiful clean voice when she chooses to use it! Alissa has done many collaborations with other bands....great vocalist!

Arch Enemy is not really satanic. More inte Anarchy before. It's just metal imagery. Checkout Handshake with Hell where Alissa do both growl and clean singing. And that ones not really satanic either.

ArchEnemy is one of the biggest MDM (Melodic Death Metal) bands, one of the few with really a huge fanbase. The have often performed on the biggest metal festivals like Wacken in Europe, where crowds accrue of literally thousands. Their moshpits are legend.
They have been a big player in their type of metal since about I think beginning 2000's with their previous vocalist. They are not known as a satanic band, more as a band abjuring any kind of religion. Some of their songs are actually about futility of praying and believing. This however comes with a satanic edge, because the "draem stealer" is quite metaphorically an allegorical creature stealing your dreams by essentially telling you that are not able to do anything, or it is forbidden what you do. As many Christians, Muslims and other religious people is often told to believe or do.

For a band "abjuring religion," they seem to embrace lots of Satanic symbolism.

@@teckreactions When religious symbolism serves a purpose, it is used in an allegorical way I suppose. I would be really surprised the'd converted to satanism. One of their trademark songs is "no Gods, no Masters", which could be their slogan.
But the lyrics of this song are available, You'll see is is nothing like Satanical worshipping. They leave that to Asagraum I think, and similar Black Metal bands. About the vocals: the women do not use their vocal chords, but their false chords and vocal tract. This produces the "demon voice", well...if you are really talented, that is.

I realize that this video has been up for a little while now, but just to answer your question about why Arch Enemy and other metal bands have a lot of “demonic” imagery: it’s just to push people‘s buttons. They’re not demonic or satanic.

You might want to learn the lyrics before you judge what you see in the video. It's an "evil" vibe because the song is about how evil creeps into you and lies and twist your thoughts. To kill the light with in you. To make yourself doubt your beliefs and twist you into your own worst enemy. Arch enemy tends to tell stories with images as well as the vocals.

Their genre is called melodic death metal. They use the instruments to carry the melody as the singer creates the sound. Musically, they're extremely talented. Alissa is a powerful singer and a very sweet person from the interviews I've seen.
Typical of the genre, there is a lot of demonic imagery. I too have issues with the look of the video. Unfortunately, many have become inured to this.
