I was thinking the exact same thing!!! charlie was just eating up those notes. Redman just tears up that solo. So so tasty. If only I could cop that on guitar.
My brother looked like mick, played 6 instruments and had a stage on his property. Gone 12yrs now. But everything time i hear this song reminds me of his kind spirit. ❤
Frank I agree 👍 and that's why for this masterpiece along this St Louis show has to be revamped and released in Blu ray which iv said in a few comments already but with Bob Clear mountain in charge next time🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I now understand the hype around Joshua Redman...wonderful! He tastefully improvises the sax solo in the Sonny Rollins' lick to the track and also pays tribute by sampling Rollins' other masterpieces like St.Thomas in his performance!
Jim just passed away.....I don't know how to go thru life without him....we loved the Stones since we were 12 yrs. old.......and now I am 60 yrs old.....
Seen em 5 times in Ireland Ellen all times great both Slane gigs '82 + '07 both Point gigs 2002 and Croak Ok '18, it all started with Gimme Shelter movie in Adelphi cinema 1970 ( long since pulled down) but seen em bout 20 times in England but due to recent hospitality op have to sit this tour out, first tour IV missed since 1976
When you're down and lonely just turn you're self on to The Rolling Stones They will pull you through I would wish I can be at the first concert back After Mick's Heart Surgery The crowed is gonna go wild and let Mivk know that he is truly a loved human being God has blessed Mick and The Rolling Stones
Love this song! It's very rare that you see a band that has performed for SO long , that can do the wild music and then mellow out with songs like wait in on a friend. Then also capture the wide wide attention of so many ranges of age groups. I'm 57 so the rolling stones were performing quite well before I was even a teenager. And they're STILL around performing now in 2018! Even through age, drugs, etc. Amazing.
I'm thinking playing second to the fab 4 pushed them to keep keeping on. As far as drugs Brian Jones and Keith Richard's did enough for any band or bands for however many years it finally ends up being? JONES is still using drugs wherever he is ?
Every time I watch one of these videos, I get jealous of Jagger's outfits. They're just so cool, just so glamorous. Also, I love the idea presented here, about people getting to vote on a song that the band'll then perform. It's a nice little way to get more fan interaction, and it gives a chance for some of the deep cuts to be played.
Listening and watching opened my heart, drew tears over Charlie, time, and good persons I’ve had the pleasure to know, appreciating life all over again. Loving lyrics and melody.
I love the Stones. Some of the greatest popular songs of all time. This is one of my favourites. But Joshua Redman is something else. No pentatonic scales for him , and the way he controls the altissimo notes near the end of the song!!! A man in unity with his instrument.
Your welcome , I want be on liine as much for a while because my computer is not working right now but you'll see me from time to time so. if you don't hear from me thats why .
Love this tune. One of the first Stones tunes I learned how to play because, well, I love it. And Dead Flowers and Satisfaction, and Gimme Shelter and Time Waits for No One and and the longest list in my songbook, thickest section, Greatest Rock N Roll band ever. Including the Beatles because the Beatles disbanded DECADES AGO. The Stones, still rockin.
I agree totally with you, even if the chord changes of this song are very easy to improvise over, he does it in a way so difficult to achieve for any mortal and average saxophone player.
@@pauldailey4477 I don't know what kind. Is English your first language? The movie Basquiat brought me here. Now I'm so in love with this song. One day in heaven I will meet Basquiat, and no longer will I be waiting on a Friend. I am so obsessed with this late artist.
Fun Fact for this video... The video starts off shot on the stoop of the building used for Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" album. This is a great song...I've got great memories attached to this song.
I love ❤️ this song ❤️ 🎵, it's just simply beautiful and amazing 🎉🎉. It takes me back to a simpler time when hanging out with a special friend was everything ❤️ 💙
Beautifully performed by the band, and the Rolling Stones are not one of my favorites but I do love this song as I was reminded when I saw a Rolling Stones tribute band this weekend.

What a great video! What a great version! True talent all around. Almost sounded better than the studio version. I am always fascinated by the onstage dynamics of the guys. Mick was looking back and off to the side a lot of times. What was going on there? The walking around, back & forth, and the impromptu quick chats they have. I would love to hear what they are saying? That shot of Mick, Keith and Ron playing together towards the end of the song.....magnificent. 💋👅
A smile relieves a heart that grieves. RIP Charlie.
For sure
😢
2024 May I MISS CHARLIE..... 🥁🎶😛
You can see Charlie really applauding Redman at the end, jazz dude that he is.
You can just see the smile on Keith's face at 3:11 or so. He's digging it.
I've heard Sonny Rollins, Ernie Watts, and now Josh Redman. 3 amazing saxophonists. Love them all

My favorite Stones song of all time. RIP Mr. Watts. Well done sir.

THE GREATEST ROCK&ROLL BAND EVER!
Tied with The Beatles IMO
@@vickivonck5836 not even close, the Beatles aren’t a rock n roll sound. I’m not even sure what sound they are.

More melancholy than usual with Charlie gone and all the people we’ve lost. So beautiful.
Mick's such a natural... he plays the guitar like there's nothing to it.
