Listening to this is like stepping into a Time Machine and stepping out into my family's kitchen and seeing my Mama dance and sing. She's got her tall glass of cold buttermilk and her iced tea spoon. Putting her homemade corn bread into the glass and eating the spoonfuls of sweet cornbread while she sings " Living on Tulsa Time". Daddy is cutting up slabs of corn meal mush from a 9x13 pan. Frying up the Hush puppies in pure sweet butter til they are crispy on the edges and creamy in the center. And all of us children are sitting at the table begging for " More please". Mama's Delicious beans are cooking on the stove and she's ladeling them up. Bowls of Love with freshly made cornbread on the side. I just wanna live on Tulsa Time forever when I hear this song. I am sending love and hugs from Washington State, USA, Jeanne of In Loving Hands Counseling and ASMR
Dad sang me this song over and over when I was little girl and played his guitar!!! ☺ I asked him to!! He got tired of it!! he still played it!! Happy Father's Day!!! good days!!
This is my absolute favorite Don Williams song, I've loved it since I was a kid. Don's music was one of the few things my Dad & I actually agreed on and now that he's gone I listen to it to remember the good times with my Dad.
I’m a Tulsa native, born and raised here. Every time me and the gang go on a road trip, we play and sing along to this song as he exit the city limits. Good memories.
Everything is so perfect in Tulsa Time - ultra sweet voice of Don Williams, classic lyrics, outstanding guitaring and perfect country setting making this song a delight to hear again & again. 🤩🤩
Been listening to Don Williams since his days in the Pozo Sego singers... Love everything he ever did... Stole many of his songs, including this one... Great songwriter... Bob
Livin' on the Lord's time now! Well...Rest In Peace, Mr. Williams, you will be missed, but like many others who've gone on before, never forgotten. Thanks for all the music, Don.
My love for music brought me here. I listened to everything growing up but there is no other song quiet like this great classic. So every once in a while I check in because I got ta set my watch back to it. Well it helps to get through it . Living in these troubling times.
I suspect Beautiful Valleyview (where I live) is in the same time zone as Tulsa. And if it isn't, it should be. Thank you for this delightful song, Don. :)
I do live in the 918(area code)and it does symbolizes Tulsa(not like you have to live there or anything)....☺anyway every time I listen to this song it kinda draws back memory like 👍: at a youth rally?Yeah!😴😴😴enough said.
Donald Ray Williams (May 27, 1939 - September 8, 2017) was an American country singer, songwriter, and 2010 inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame. He began his solo career in 1971, singing popular ballads and amassing 17 number one country hits. His straightforward yet smooth bass-baritone voice, soft tones, and imposing build earned him the nickname: "Gentle Giant" of country music.[1]His parents were Loveta Mae (née Lambert; 1914 - 2007) and James Andrew "Jim" Williams (1898 - 1982).[2] He grew up in Portland, Texas and graduated from Gregory-Portland High School in 1958. After Williams' parents divorced, Loveta Williams remarried first to Chester Lang, and then to Robert Bevers.[3] On July 20, 1963, Williams' eldest brother Kenneth died after being was accidentally electrocuted after touching a live wire. He was 29 years old.[4]At the height of the country and western boom in the UK in 1976, he had top forty pop chart hits with "You're My Best Friend" and "I Recall a Gypsy Woman".[10] His first single with ABC/Dot, "I Wouldn't Want to Live If You Didn't Love Me," became a number one hit, and was the first of a string of top ten hits he had between 1974 and 1991. Only four of his 46 singles didn't make it to the Top Ten.[11] "I Believe in You", written by Roger Cook and Sam Hogin, was Williams' eleventh #1 on the country chart.[12] It was his only Top 40 chart entry in the U.S., where it peaked at #24. It was also hit in Australia, New Zealand and Europe.[13] Williams had some minor roles in Burt Reynolds movies. In 1975, Don appeared as a member of the Dixie Dancekings band in the movie W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings alongside Reynolds. Don also appeared as himself in the Universal Pictures movie, Smokey and the Bandit II, in which he also played a number of songs.[14] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Williams
Anyone here remember Sound Stage on PBS? Don was on an episode and when he played this song Danny Flowers, his electric guitarist really turned up the volume on that performance of Tulsa Time making it sound a bit like a rock song even though Don is strictly country.
Real country music, people dont think I know what real country music is because I am only 10 but when you have a dad like mine you hear it every day, I have an Alabama CD and Alan Jackson CD
I bought the double decker bus in Tulsa from the Asian Arts Museum (1968 Neoplan Skyliner owned by Roy Clark) whole town smelled like bad friend oil, cars smoked from bad gasoline, and nobody stops for pedestrians. I enjoyed talking to some old boys, but I was out of there when I got running.
