I’m 5 years away from retirement with 31 1/2 years service for the Dept of defense. For nearly past 2 years my TSP is 75% in the C fund (S&P 500) and 25% in G fund (cash). For 2023 I shot up about 20%. Would’ve been close to 25% if I was all in the C fund. I’ll see how the year goes, my plan is too stay the course until I retire in Dec 2028

You’re my favorite personal finance youtuber.
I knew two people who in 2008 had their portfolio drop 90%, and they had only just retired the year before! If they had even 4 years of expenses in cash, they would have recoved it all.

It is quite evident how passionate you are about retirement and investing but what’s more amazing is how generous you are sharing your expertise! I really appreciate your style and candor and you have helped us with new learnings while validating some of the plans we already had in place! God Bless and cheers to an exciting 2024!

68, retired, and unfortunately on disability from copd. But because of all the if's I was dealing with, I bought 2 fixed index Annuities and 5 CD's with good interest rates. I am also out of debt, so that is a game changer too! I appreciate your videos Dave, thanks so much!

Thanks for this video. My investments did really well during the past two Presidential election years (2020 & 2016). I am cautiously optimistic about this year.

Good content Dave - sets people straight on the true nature of the markets. Markets don't care all that much - they do what they do, and that is - over time - GROW.

Thank you Dave, for the reminder about the use of AI Deepface. And no emotional decision making while also using Backtest Portfolio to see where we are now with our investments. 😊

Great information, Dave, as always. I bet that tea party was the event of a lifetime! BTW. Do you know how many times I have wished that I could see a certain political party’s congresswoman’s (congressmen’s) portfolio? I mean they beat the market, hugely! I could stand some returns like that! I think the working class of America would feel much better about the circumstances if we weren’t having to support, it seems, everyone else. Peace and prosperity to you, your family, friends, and subscribers, for 2024.

Many wealthy individuals maintain their wealth by adopting frugal spending habits similar to those of the less affluent. They also prioritize continuous investment, whereas some poorer individuals tend to spend extravagantly without focusing on long-term investments, often attempting to impress those who are already wealthy,,

One can’t believe a dam thing the media reports. Turn it off then ask yourself if you are better off than four years ago. Is the country doing better than four years ago. Is the world doing better than four years. Your answer should determine how you vote.

Can you clarify the market returns in an election year chart? Are they referencing the year leading up to the election (2012, 2016,2020, etc.) or the year after the election (2013, 2017, 2021, etc.)? It is only relly relevant if it the latter. Thanks.

Is so easily said than the way it works. I must say is an interesting video from you Dave but most people don't realize it, but the secret to retiring comfortably is finding a way to make returns while your money works for you. My dad, as I remember, started saving for retirement quite late, but I know he was making more than 10k returns from his investment monthly and it was completely passive.

Thanks for your input Dave. I think the majority of the American people are aware of what Biden's strategies have done to this country. God willing, I will be voting for President Trump once again!
