As far as I'm aware, this is The Acoustic show to go for if you need it. I'm pretty sure near the end, they do an acoustic version of one of the Han Tyumi songs on Murder of the universe.
I agree with you, that the growth is exponential and so rewarding to hear that sometimes the studio versions end up being a snooze. It seems Stu has embraced that, he mentioned once in an interview that he'd gotten into Grateful Dead bootlegs and was digging how different the songs could be from night to night and how that made the audience experience special. It's like the same leap from their demos to studio version, as studio is to live. (The demos are fun, too)
I think the chain on the ride is to give it a little bit more "sizzle". when hitting the cymbal it would cause the chain to rattle around, giving the cymbal little kisses, to add a tiny bit of flavor compared to just the stick hitting the ride
I think this is a standout track on the album. I think for which version I prefer, it depends on what mood I'm in. If I want 10 minutes of music, live, and if I want 4, studio. I think Red Vox, for example, would be a great jam band if they played live at all, but most of their studio tracks are under 5 minutes, with 2 exceptions as of now (there will be some above 5 minutes soon) and they've only played live twice. Since you mentioned 1 of the 7 Greek modes (Phrygian), I feel like Ice, Death etc. is a great album to get you used to what each mode actually sounds like (even though you've already heard the album plenty of times). For example, "Mycelium" (which aligns with "Ice" in the album title) is in the Ionian mode (thats modal for "Major"), "Magma" (aligns with "Planets") is in Phrygian, and Iron Lung (aligns with "And") is in Aeolian (modal word for "Minor"). David Bennett Piano has a video called "King Gizzard used EVERY mode on this album" that I think would be helpful for understanding that. Next up is N.G.R.I. (Bloodstain), which is a demented track, mainly because the lyrics are about somebody who is literally insane. The song itself sounds a bit demented too though.
You should get youtube prem just so ads dont pop up in your videos and ruin the flow of the music 😁 keep up the good work through! I watch all gizzard content!
You should try listening to the band VULFPECK and their live at MSG concert (might be the best concert I’ve ever seen), it’s deep pocketed funk, I went from being a strictly metal enjoyer to starting to delve into different genres and liking stuff that I never thought I would enjoy
Ffs it took me far too long to realise the thing twitching on your shirt was your headphone cable when you were bobbin your head, I thought you had an analog clock hand attached to your shirt at first 🤦♂ Outta these two I prefer the studio, but the Red Rocks 22 Bitter Boogie is quality! I agree with the other comments about the Caverns Most of What I Like though, for one reason I shall not spoil haha
While a great version, this isn't the one I would recommend. It's pretty subdued, Amby is a bit low-energy and Stu is so drunk his vocals are a bit off lol. This show was way more about chilling with the audience than creating musical masterpieces. Red Rocks or Asheville would have been the way to go.
most of what i like should 100% be live vs studio!!! (caverns acoustic ofc)
I second this
i third this
Love the acoustic versions but the red rocks 22 electric version is one of the best ever. They absolutely shred it
If you like Ambrose on this, check out some early Murlocs tracks. Rolling On would be a great one, prob my favorite from their first few records

2nd song played actually!
Figure it will help to say that the next song is an acronym for “Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity.”

Check out bitter boogie @ brisbane 2021 for Ambrose Kenny-G sax magic

Great song
You should definetly listen to the red rocks 2022 version of this. All electric, a little more alive. This chill version is fun though

Is the next reaction video my request? If so, I hope you enjoy whichever one is chosen.

Definitely do the caverns live version of most of what i like
The live version is sick I just wish Stu did the same backing vocals during ambrose’s part in the studio version
Oh yeah Ambrose loves the blues wait til you get into the Murlocs
Rather than the acoustic live version, you should react to the live version in Asheville, a lot more energy
